Hair 1/2 defined curls and 1/2 frizz ... Need advice

I'm new to the curly world. I stopped using a relaxer 5 years ago. I still cover my gray at the roots. I've flat ironed my hair for the last 5 years weekly. A month ago I stopped flat ironing my hair and started the CG method. I got a Deva Cut and I have been co-washing, leaving in conditioning daily and deep conditioning weekly.

I'm starting to see good curl definition on the canopy and under the back of my neck but the back of my hair in the middle under a few curls is full on Frizz. Its like there are curls on top and frizz under the curls then curls again...like a sheeps wool.

I might have a different curl pattern there but I'm not sure if its that or I'm using the wrong products?

Anyone have issues with some areas having curls and some having frizz?

How did you tame the frizz when is focused in one area?

co-wash - Skala shea butter conditioner
Oil - Amla and coconut oil
Leave in - Cantu Shea butter
Deep Conditioner - Vatika olive oil
Hi Julie, I have the same problem also. What I do is use a little more LI and more gel in those more frizzy areas. Work them in really well. Make sure every little hair is covered..lol.

Does LI mean Leave in Conditioner? (I'm still learning the curly lingo) If so what Leave In Conditioners do you like/recommend?

Also have you tried any of the spray gels? I'm having trouble with finding a light weight gel. My hair will straighten with gels. Its like the curls have a hard time curling...light the gel is pulling it down.

Hi

I have the same issue. When my hair dries, the only bit of frizz is at the back & it poofs out nearly horizontal thru my curls. It's so ratty

When I use Leave in (LI) condish, I too put a lil' extra over that area. I use SM LI/Naked Miracle worker or some DT/intense conditioner.

I always need to put gel over that area to tame it down cuz it's like the hair belongs to someone else - it just doesn't look like the rest if my hair

I use Low poo/then DT overnight at least once a week.

I brush my hair with a denman brush whenever i wash/co-wash always with condish (Tresemme natural smooth). The back always seems to be more entangled then the rest of my head of hair. so I'm just really careful with it brushing ever so gently so it doesn't break.

Since I've been using a DT/intense condish as a LI - it's gotten a lot better. My hair all round is a looking so much more healthy ...

Goodluck
Thanks for your advice. I'll try to do some overnight deep conditioners. I'll also try to leave in some deep conditioner to see if that works.

I looked up denman brushes and there are lots to choose from...its there a type that works best for you?

Hi

I haven't tried all the denman brushes - just the one. It's called the D200 flexible vent brush.

I love it. Very easy to detangle without pullin my hair out, & distributes product well.

Some curlies have recommended the D4 but I've found mixed reviews on that one.

My hair is only shoulder length so it might be easier to brush then longer hair - I dunno

Cheers
Thanks, I'm going to look out for that bush. I have a variety of brushes but they all make my hair frizz. (great for smoothing back a ponytail I've been using a wide tooth comb..I'll have to try that brush.

Thanks again
Julie
Yeah do. It has made a difference with my hair anyway

Best of luck
I read that the denman d3 is great for tight curls. I'm gonna get myself one for Chrissie.
thanks for the advice. Brushing makes my curls really puff up when It dries. I dont like it. Its better for me to finger comb and smooth with my hands to get smooth spiral clumps
