Default Is it ok if the ends break off??

I was looking at my hair today and noticed that some of the straight ends broke off, is that ok?? Is it better to snip them off?? I think i'm going to do a mini chop, but are the ends where there broken off damaged?? I'm super new to natural and I can say so far I love it!

Sounds like you might need to trim your ends. It's important to trim your hair every now and again when you're transitioning. It helps minimize breakage, but you have to make sure to carefully moisturize your ends. Protective styling also helps keep ends from breaking off so much.

It is better to trim the hair yourself. The spot where the hair breaks is damaged and will eventually become a split end...which means that your new growth/natural hair will also end up damaged.

And ditto on what pprmache said: protective styling + moisturizing will help to get you through the rest of your transition.

Gluck

You need to trim it. If you just let it break off the breakage will eventually move up the hair because the hair is damaged and split at the breakage point. You'll end up losing more length in the long run.

There are also conditioning treatments like aphogee you can use to help minimize the breakage.
