Loving my hair!!!
I've been on my natural journey for 8 months, I decided to go natural at first by accident since relaxers starting costing too much and I was not about to start relaxing my hair on my own. After about a month I picked up the paper one day and there was an article about natural hair bloggers, I ran a search through google and voila! An infinite amount of information about natural hair care. I never even knew what 'natural hair' was, or that my natural texture could ever be curly. After reading stories about people journies it became more about me not wanting to torture my scalp with relaxers any longer and not frying my hair with Dominican (I'm Dominican myself) blowouts and flat irons. Most importantly I wanted to see my hair natural hair texture which I've NEVER seen, learn how to grow healthy hair without harming it and learn to love myself without all the damaging additives. I was taught that I needed to do the mentioned damaging things to have 'good' looking hair because mine was 'bad and kinky' but 'not that bad' according to my grandmother because, 'it grows a lot'. I was brainwashed into thinking that I NEEDED relaxers, although I hated them.

I had braided extensions in my hair from the age of 2 and my first relaxer before I started 1st grade, 5 or 6.

I'm going natural because all I want is healthy hair I can be proud of and I think it's an opportunity for me to finally have shoulder length hair. Plus I went natural before and I quit cause I was getting really discouraged. So I went back again cause I don't like quitting.
I went natural because I was sick of paying my stylist $50 to relax my hair every 8 weeks and also sick of some of my family member's stance about good hair, my mom and a some of my cousins , various other relatives have hair that is 3c -2c, was always told had bad hair got tired of it. Their faces when I first went natural was a picture but now they are used to it.

Doing what I want when I want! Getting tempted to bkt the nape save me lol
Before I started college (about 5 yrs ago) my mom& stylist's did my hair. When I went away to school my freshman yr I had no clue how to care for my hair. I got my hair colored 4x in 3mths (ignorant I know smdh) I let anybody who said they could perm do my hair, etc. So my hair broke in layers. It's grown back a lot but I miss my long thick hair. I've tried everything else. My hair always thickens when I don't relax it, so I thought why not I had nothing else to loose? August 4, 2011 was my last perm and I'm planning a long term transition. Now I'm learning my hair and how to take care of it on my own. I never want to be that ignorant again w/my hair.
