Default Do i need a protein treatment?

i went through my hair and noticed some parts aren't as defined as others, and i'm wondering if its from flat iron damage, the only reason i flat iron is because im not so talented with the braiding and other transitioning styles,if the parts of my hair are really damaged will a protein treatment fix it?
