What keeps me going is my new growth. Whenever I feel it, I'm just amazed at how soft it is, how healthy it looks.

Also, seeing a few people who have transitioned. Seeing people who hair was very weak or hair go from short to APL or MBL because they stopped perming. that makes me think "well, my hair never went past shoulder length so if I stop perming it who knows how long my hair can get!"

I'm just in LOVE with transitioning! It was well over due!

A relaxer I loved and had great results with for several years suddenly didn't work well anymore and eventually I got a severe scalp burn that freaked me out and made me really scared of chemicals. I've been wanting to transition for the past few years, and even attempted once before but caved at 8.5 months. After my burning incident, I relaxed once more with a texturizer recommended by a friend, but I was seriously stressed about it. Luckily, my hair turned out great. But, I finally realized how stupid it is to keep relaxing when I don't trust chemicals and I'm a huge ball of nerves every time it's time to relax again. Furthermore, I'm a natural hair junkie; I'm just obsessed with the beauty of it for a while now. I just need to put in the work and see the process through to the end.
I'm Natural Now!!!!

I started transitioning when I found out I was pregnant. I didn't want to be using any harsh chemicals whilst being preggos.

it's progressed from there. I'd like to be more healthy & more aware of how to look after myself. Also now I'd like to show my kids how to look after curly hair & be comfortable as we are.

Well for me it was my militant parents and my sisters who are also natural. In addition to inspirational pictures in my phone and the fact that my hair made it past shoulder which never happened in my life. It motivates me to keep going!

I'm tired of seeing my hair break off on the ends. I know its because of abc that I do to my hair so it's time to stop working against my hair and work with it

I have a few things that motivate me:

1. As a hairstylist I don't have the energy most mornings to do my hair esp since I'm going to be doing others for at least 8-10 hrs that day.

2. I like being low-maintenance esp during extremely hot summer days and during the winter season. I can co-wash in the shower put some kccc on it and be out the door.

3. I really really love my curls. The longer my hair grows the more define my curls get and the healthier it is. No shedding, definitely no breakage.

4. I love for people to compliment my curls and then get a little jealous when I tell them I'm natural.. they swear I have some sort of texturizer.
Big Chop: 9/2013
Hair Type: 4a
Current Length: 1/2"
