Advice on Giving Advice

Hello Everyone,
I lurk over here sometimes but hardly ever post. I don't feel like I know very much when it comes to transitioning because I bc'd like 3 or 4 months post relaxer. My hair matted and I was done. I admire you ladies but I don't have the patience. Anyway 3 years later I don't regret it and I'm closing in on BSL

The thing is recently some ladies (relaxed) were admiring my hair and asking me questions about hair care. I like to encourage people to go natural and things were going good until one asked me about the process of transitioning and being me I said "Oh, I just chopped it all off." The look of horror. It got me thinking that I get that reaction a lot. When I was relaxed I had two drastic cuts from heat and color damage so I knew when I went natural that I could do short hair. a lot of women in my family have cut their off at least once but I know an early bc isn't for everyone. What can I say that I'm not sending them running away in fear. But I don't really know much about how to handle the transitioning process so I'm not comfortable giving tips. Not only that some ladies tell me they want their hair to instantly look like mine. But believe me it took a lot of trial and error.

Sorry so long..

The best thing you can do is be honest. If people ask you about natural hair and your journey share with them what you know and your experiences. Other than that be upfront and inform them that just because you chose to BC that does not mean that that was/is the ONLY way to go natural. Let them know that they can transition and I'm sure you are aware of the basics (I didn't do an immediate BC but I can give a general definition of what it means to someone vs what transitioning is) and advise them to jump online and do their research (youtube, NC, Curly NIkki, etc) for more detailed info because I can bet that anyone who is GENUINELY interested in eventually making the leap to natural vs just yapping your ear off may initially be leery of the idea of cutting off their hair but will come around and invest the time as well as energy into researching more into learning about the process and would appreciate ANY info that you give them!
