HELLLPPPP!
Hi everyone,
I decided to go natural in November and January 3rd will be my third month going natural. My everyday regimen is pretty much putting cantu leave in conditioner and repair on my hair because its mainly up. When I wash it I wash it with creme of nature kiwi and citrus shampoo, but before I wash (i just now started doing this last week) I try to part my hair and sections and I put tea tree oil on it and olive oil replenishing conditioner on it for atleast 15-20 mins. I don't put any heat on my hair anymore and I get my ends cut regularly, I just have this feeling that I am missing something or I am not doing anything right. Please HELPPP!!! :) Jasmine S.Bby |
Hi and welcome to the transitioning world. I have decided to go natural last month as well. My last Relaxer was in October and I have shoulder length hair.
I have been staying away from heat too, so I wear my hair in twist outs or bantu knot outs. I like the bantu knot outs better since I can do those better. I use Shea moisture products from walgreens and Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in conditioner. I got most of my information about going natural do's and don'ts from YouTube. Keep in touch since we are transitioning at the same time. I will let you know of other products I use. Do you plan to BC? I don't, I want to transition for as long as I can. Sorry to keep rambling, but I'm about to go to sleep, lol. Sent from my HERO200 using CurlTalk App |
Wow, finally somebody who is transitioning the same time as me :)
I haven't really had a go to style to try..and its so frustrating dealing with two different textures..but I don't want to bc yet until I get to a comfortable length, but I kind of want to transition for awhile as well. :) Jasmine S.Bby |
Hello! First of all, congratulations on your journey lady! Your doing good so far.:salut: I'm a little over 9 months into my transition and month 3 was very hard for me. Here is some things that might assist you:
Remember that your newgrowth has a mind of it's own so make sure that you are paying attention to it very much. It can get dry dry dry! Try to strecth the newgrowth (preventing tangles) by braiding it in sections (after you wash it) and letting it dry after you apply your leave-ins. But for the most part, you are on the right track by limiting heat, conditioning the hair, low-maipulation,and moisturizing your hair. Just keep in mind that you have to listen to your hair and what its telling you. Good luck on your journey. |
Thank you for the welcome and the tips, I appreciate it. :)

I'm choosing not to use heat either on my hair. No blow dryer, curling iron, or flat iron. I just wash my hair let it mostly air dry, then I put my bantu knots in. I go to my hair dresser ever 6 weeks to get a trim.

I stopped using heat like last month and I dk what to do my hair is missing the heat(well I think I am...really) How long do you keep your bantu knots up??
Jasmine S.Bby |
Since I work first shift, I don't miss having to wait on the curling iron to heat up! If anything, I might use it to touch up a couple of curls.
As far as my bantu knots, the good thing is they look great. The bad thing is, it's a one day style. You have to re-knot (I guess that a word) them every night. Unless you know how to "sleep pretty." That means push all of your curls to the top of your head, tie a silk scarf around it and try not sleep too rough. Lol! I've only tried it twice and I got lucky-I didn't mess my hair up to much. But those were the times I had to use a curling iron to touch it up that morning. The bigger you make your knots, the bigger and looser your curls will be. The smaller your knots, the tighter the curls. I usually put about 8-10 knots. I've been wearing this style for about 2wks now. I want to try a twist out, but I haven't mastered how to flat twist yet. Sent from my HERO200 using CurlTalk App |
I would try the bantu knots, but I don't want to wear them for a long time. I just wanna put them up for half a day then take them down. I haven't mastered flat twist either, but I have been trying two strand twist.(not yet mastered either) haha!! YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. So I have to keep pushing it. ;)

I tried flat twist last night before I web to bed, just woke up and I will take them out un a few hours. I will post a pic of how they turned out. I'm nervous, lol.
I hope they look decent, because I have a birthday party to go to today. Sent from my HERO200 using CurlTalk App |

My flat twist out...fail. I think it will work out better when I have about 5-6 inches if new growth.

My last relaxer was Oct 15,2011 (about 3 months now also). It's hard to see my new growth on my dry hair. I only have about an inch of new growth.
Here are see pictures of my hair when its wet, I took this pic a couple of week ago. Sent from my HERO200 using CurlTalk App |
My last one was october 3rd but my new growth seem like its way thicker than yours. Lol we are two different people. Uhmm I don'r have any pics of my hair. Maybe next week.

Yeah, you got your last relaxer before me. How often did you get your relaxers? I use to get mine every 4-6 weeks. Everybody's hair grows at different speeds. My hair history is it grows long but its not very thick.

Yeah I figured that. I get a relaxer every 4-6 weeks.

My hair history grows long and thick, but my hair was thin and long until I start doing it myself then it got short and thin lol.
Jasmine S.Bby |
Oh wow, that's not good. Lol
I believe my hair was thin due to the relaxers. That's why I don't want relaxers any more, I always hated how my hair looked so limp. Now I get complements on my hair about how thick, and healthy it looks. Plus I've been taking the vitamins called Biotin for a while now, and that helps. Sent from my HERO200 using CurlTalk App |
Hi,
I'll say that I'm still transitioning because I've got a little less than an inch of relaxed hair at the ends of my hair (everything else is natural). I have not used heat on my hair in like, almost a year. My hair is like....really elastic-y right now. Also, it's so healthy that the owner of a hair salon asked me what I do with my hair. I go to her salon like once every week or once every two weeks and each time that I go, she sits by me once she's done with whatever she was doing and asks me what I did with my hair during the week and after I took down the braids or twists I got. It makes me feel so special :) lol Here's something you might want to know. This'll help you during your transition:
Hope I could help. All the best, and good luck on your transition. |
@induetime girl i've been wanting to take them.....do you like them and I cant swallow pills......shhhhhh don't let noone, know. Lol.
