Hard Hair (literally) w/ Coconut Oil

Sunday night, I did a braid out using coconut oil to seal my hair. Monday morning, I had a shiny, fabulous, and fluffy braid out. The coconut oil had cut down on frizz and knots from forming. I was loving the look. The weather was fairly warm. Last night, I did the same routine as Sunday. This morning, the only thing I did extra was use a little more coconut oil after I took down the braids. Big Mistake! Outside was very windy and below 50 degrees. I know coconut oil becomes a solid in cooler air and a liquid in moist air. But damn I didn't think my hair would become rock solid. My hair was dry throughout the day. It wasn't as soft as yesterday. I think I will be only using coconut, as a prepoo treatment and for braid outs in warmer weather. My hair knotted up like crazy also. Thank God I keep a tiny spray bottle in my bag. It's one of those Oyin juices sample bottles. How do I prevent my hair from becoming rock solid with coconut oil?

Omg, I had the same thing happen to me but lucky I was doing my hair and it happened. I used Trader Joe's virgin coconut oil and Shea Moisture Curl & Style milk and while I was putting it in, It started to turn white which meant it was solidifying in my hair. I washed it out and used jojoba oil with the milk instead and my hair loved it!

Idk why I didn't just go to Flatbush and get my regular coconut oil from this west Indian lady. The one from
Trader Joe's is solid and smells like I can just eat it! I'm just use to the west Indian one. Since the weather is iffy in NYC, you should just sub coconut oil with another good oil like jojoba, sweet almond, olive etc
I only use evco in warmer months... I typically use safflower, grapeseed or sunflower oil in the winter or on cold days...

I know! This NYC weather smh. My hair actually went into shock and became so dry yesterday. My hair was moisturized when I went anywhere that was warm, on like the train. Then when I stepped outside my hair freezed up and so did the oil. Towards the end of the day my hair felt like I had put gel in it. I had little white bits of the oil that was frozen into my hair which didn't look cute.

I learned my lesson too. I'm not using coconut oil in weather that's below 50 degrees. I'll stick to using it during the summer and has a prepoo treatment
