Dry hair how to cope?

No matter what I do lately, my hair always ends up in a dry tangled mess when I put it in a ponytail, bun, or braid out. My hair is funny. It can drink up lighter products but gets weighed down by heavier ones. The frizz is annoying as well. My only solution to this problem is to start a conditioner only method. I think my hair needs more co washing sessions as well. Please give me some advice

There could be many factors that contribute to dry hair. Maybe there is a drying chemical in your shampoo, or maybe you are shampooing too much and it is stripping your hair. Maybe you should go with a thicker oil or try a solid grease. That usually works. And if that doesn't work, try a liquid moisturizer. What could really help is making sure hair is getting good oils - coconut oil for sure, castor oil, extra virgin olive oil, canola oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil are some examples. Just try different strategies until you find what works best for your hair.

The products I use are:

•Karen's Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia, Heavenly Jojoba Oil, Luscious Locks Hair Mask, Juicy Shampoo Bar, Butter Love
•Trader Joes Jojoba Oil
• Kinky Curly Come Clean and Knot Today
•Giovanni's Tea Tree Shampoo and Direct Leave in

I don't use all the shampoos and conditioners every week. Sometimes I skip the poo and co wash with either Giovanni's Direct Leave in or KBB's luscious locks mask. Styling products and oils I use everyday.

Those seem like good products. Have you tried mixing some of the oils and using the combination? That could help with dryness.

I do mix the oils with the products. I think I go too long without washing. Washing once a week is something I've been doing for about 3 months now. When I was relaxing and at the beginning of my transitioning, I use to co washed 2-3 times a week and that worked fine for me. As my hair grew in thickness I didn't bother to listen to my hair when it was "thirsty". Plus build up makes my hair dull and sticky feeling

+1 ^^ I was about to say it sounds like some kind of product build up. You might wanna try simplifying your regimen or routine. I have a staple of three or four products that I use and my hair is pretty happy. Simplicity is the key sometimes.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I dont know if it's the silk protein in Shea moisture products or build up of products overall. I'm going to start back co-washing once or twice a week. My hair is usually soft after a low poo or co wash

This is the one thing that if the even product junkie wizard made me choose only ONE thing I could be deserted on an island with.. this would be IT..

Vegetable Glycerin... It builds up in your hair if you spray it with a conditioner mix in a water bottle all the time like I do.. I could spray less but im just in love with this stuff..

It keeps my hair soft through the extra crazy east coast weather swings... harsh winters... and the stiffest gel.. doesnt matter what I mix with it on my head my hair stays soft alllllll day long.. I love it.
