transitioning without direction

Hi.. So.. I have friends with natural hair.. And since I've been tired of relaxing my hair I decided to go natural but I don't really have a guide my friends only tell me to let my hair grow.. But I've been searching around about going natural and for me its more than just growing my hair out.. Its hair care.. But I don't really know how to take care of my new growth in this 'transitioning process' so if you could give me some advice.. That would be really helpful.. Btw I'm 5 months natural now.. I do not want to do the BC now.. But a little bit later.. Another thing that I want to ask is.. Ummh.. I think(I'm not sure yet)I'm a 3C Curlyhairtype.. And the thing is that my egde's are so hard to control.. I've tried Gel and stuff but it doesn't help.. They don't smooth at all.. And I'm afraid that the gel can cause breakage to my hair.. So my question is.. Is there a product that doesn't affect my hair and that smoothens my edge's.. ?! Tnx already for reading my post.. And I'm so ashamed for not-knowing basically anything.. But tnx allot and I will be waiting for you response

Hi I am also transitioning and have been since July 2011. Be patient and begin to get used to your new texture. Fortunately you are in the best place to get advice. What kind of gel are you using? Alot of curlies use Eco styler gel as do I and it is not as drying as other gels. Also your hair WILL NOT lay as used to with a relaxer so u have to get used to that. Also how are doing your hair? You may want to read through the boards here for ideas. Braid outs, twist outs, Bantu knots are good. Just read and visit YouTube for help.

YouTube definitely helped me while I transitioned. I agree with newseason, Eco Styler is a good gel. I use it too, and it does help to lay down your edges, one tip I do have is to lay them down with EcoStyler or any gel you like and then tie them down with a scarf over night and it should last. During my transition I had a weave for the first 7 months I had a weave then for the next 6 months I wore bantu knots and I pressed my hair. I definitely recommend bantu knots if you're looking for a style. If you're going to use heat definitely invest in a heat protectant to avoid heat damage. Good Luck!!!
