what do I do?

I am relaxed hair transitioning w/out the big chop. I washed my hair last weekend and did bantu knots and wore my hair curly...now it's coming to the end of the hairstyle and I was wondering if I should wash my hair or what I need to do? I plan on doing some curls on flex rods?

How often should I wash my hair?
How can I speed of the transition process or can I?
How do I seal in moisture?

I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm so new to this and wants to make sure I don't do something that would make me hate this choice!
Aha... it's really kind of an experiment. There's truly no "perfect" way to deal with your hair when it's in any state, and your attempts to are probably going to be very far away from this because you can't know your natural hair properties yet.

There is no designated "wash" day either. I'd base it off of how much you sweat and what products you use. (Some products accumulate build-up faster than others). I wasn't CG when I was transitioning until the last six or so months, but that method really helped me with moisture retention. I washed... once every 3-5 days probably, but that was just me.

The most important thing is definitely moisture though. Especially for transitioning gals, the hair tends to lack enough of it. To seal, people either use leave-ins or oils (it depends on your hair). However, make sure that the oil is a "sealing" or "coating" oil, rather than one that will be easily absorbed into your hair (such as olive oil). Some oils people use are jojoba and grapeseed oil.

And about "speeding up" the process... the whole point of transitioning is to grow out your natural hair. Besides resorting to special hair growth supplements, nothing will magically speed up the process, but keeping it healthy will help you retain length and possibly grow a little faster.

I agree with Sandi, wash as needed. I wash every 5-12 days, some people wash monthly, others cowash (conditioner wash) every other day, it's up to you.

Hair growth is genetic. If your hair has always grown fast then it'll continue to do so, the same goes for slow. There are people who say they've seen faster hair growth doing this or that but I think it's baloney Lol. Take a daily multivitamin to keep healthy and drink a lot of water. Your hair will do its job regardless though.

Sealing refers to trapping in moisture. Moisture is liquid, or water. Apply moisture to your hair with products based on water (first ingredient should be water/aqua/eau) and seal with a product that does not contain water. So water shouldn't be anywhere in the list. This is moisturizing and sealing.
