Transitioning probs..

So I've been transitioning for over a year now, and lately my hair has been feeling more dry than ever! My ends drag my new curls down too, making my hair look like a flat, frizzy mess. You can't even tell that I have new curls coming through, it just looks like .. wavy limpy sorta hair. I've recently got it cut quite short and I can't go any shorter (lol) !

I'm unsure on what type of hairstyles I should do to suit transitioning hair because I'm so bored of wearing it up in a bun! I'm also kinda useless when it comes to products, but lately I've been using Tresemme shampoo and conditioner, and their serum, and the organics texture my way curl keeper 'moisturising' hair lotion. I mean.. are these products making my hair so dry?

Any product recommendations? Any tips, I'm kinda get impatient with this transitioning thing

(3A/3B Curls by the way)

Thank you
Well one thing you can do is check the ingredients in those products.. see if they contain parabens, alcohols, sulfates, or silicones because your hair might not like that stuff.
Also for styling maybe try: a long term protective style like box braids or senegalese twists (once you figure out your problem with moisture)
-mini twists
-rod sets
-twist-and-curl (whats getting me through my transition)

I hope I helped,

You may need a clarifying shampoo to remove build-up. A deep conditioning treatment and/or a protein treatment might also help your dryness. I just recently learned that my hair thrives on less product- so I'm just using conditioner to style. That may be something for uou to try to see how your hair behaves- it seemed like I couldn't keep my hair moisturized before that. If worried just try it on a day when you're not supposed to go anywhere. If you've been using those products a long time I'd start with the clarifier. If not I'd start with deep conditioner then the protein treatment.

All of that aside it certainly will help longer term to start learning now about your hairs properties (texture, porosity, elasticity, curl type) if you don't already know them.

What I liked to do was wash it, apply a gel and then plait it or fishtail braid it that way when I took out the plait all of my hair went into waves / curls, it kind of matched my roots and looked more voluminous / was easier to manage. And it meant I could wear it down!

Be patient, because I promise you once you're done with transitioning your hair will look so awesome and there'll be so much you can do with it. It really is beyond worth it. I'm so glad I stuck with it, because now I feel so much more confident and my hair looks great.

Keep at it!

Oh and as for product recommendations, maybe Shea Moisture would work? I love their stuff (as you can see in my signature). Look for people with similar hair types on the forum and check their signatures and you should get loads of great product recommendations.

Good luck.
