Default Bun question?

How can i create waves in the front part of my natural hair when ''bunning''.I've tried the scarf but it just smooth my hair without creating any wave (i've seen a lot of transitioners doing it is there any trick or it's just about the curl pattern.Any idea i'm in the 9th month of transition

Hello Flower Princess,
have you tried maybe a loose bun and using Fantasia IC clear gel? I use a goody ouchless band to hold my hair back and Fantasia IC gel to create the waves. I apply a little gel on the hair I plan to secure back and wait about ten minutes (waves start to appear) then I secure hair back w/ the band, wrapping the band around once. Sounds like you have more than enough new growth to create a wave pattern, maybe your pulling the hair back too tight? Try to loosen the bands your using. I hope this helps.

No,i haven't tried that. Do you apply the gel on wet hair? And do you apply any other product too or only the gel?
Yes ,i sometimes pull it tight... not too tight to give me a heachache.Anyway i do it tight cause my hair is layered and some parts are sorter so (my hair is little longer than collar bone and it has a lot of layers due to breakage while i was relaxed) in order to catch all of if i pull it medium tight then put bobby pins on the fly away hair. But i never thought of gel i thought it should be only used on 100% natural or texturized/permed hair.I gotta give it a try.

yes the fantasia gel should definitely bring out the waves and like what auburn said, wrap the band around once to make a loose bun. i just wet the part of my hair that want pulled back, apply the gel and the waves start to appear. u can use a nice headband too to hold those stray hairs in place.

How many inches of new growth do you have? I don't do anything special to get the waves, they're just automatically there the second I put my hair in a ponytail.

I did, however, notice that the waves in my hair were more pronounced after I did the BC and my hair was long enough for a bun.

I don't really know but it's more than 4 inches.I think it's just my hair type.Sometimes i feel frustrated when dealing with it.

Same for me. Sorry... I'm sure there's a way to encourage it though. Try having a looser ponytail or bun and then pushing the part with the hair tie toward your hairline for a second. If your hair is too tight, it might pull the curls straight, but if you wear it looser and gently press toward the hairline, it might get you that natural patter again. Does that make any sense at all?

ITA with mariag002, My waves appear by themselves once I bun. I don't use a gel but you could try that (small amount) and tie with scarf left on overnight.
