Fighting the urge to BC! ...but why?

Yeah for me I'm at the 8 month mark. I got my last relaxer sometime in April (maybe even march). I didn't keep track of my hair appts. It seems like my hair is growing soooo slow. The only thing holding my back from chop chop is the fact that I have a round face. Otherwise I would love to rock a TWA.

But I just decided I'm gonna do it anyway.Yeah I look bad with short hair but I might as well embrace the low maintenance while I can. I would have liked to have waited for the 1 year mark but I just can't. I wanna see my hair all natural so bad and the relaxed ends are holding me back from some awesome styles. Have you seen the naturalnana channel on youtube.com? So many pretty styles. So right after Christmas the relaxed ends are gone. I have to wait until XMas becuase I don't want my grandma seeing my hair short. Too much shock. December 27th here I come!
I want to BC so bad but I don't want to lose my length. My plan is to chop off four inches in April and then to slowly chop of an inch every two months.
I'm into my 11th month now and while my hair was loose the temptation was so great... up until a couple of weeks ago when I got some kinky twists. So far, the best thing I've done during this whole transition. It keeps me from messing with my hair, from wasting products on it (pj anyone?), shorter showers, and I don't have to worry about styling it every day.

I'm scared when I have to take them out I'm gonna see all this growth and to the relaxed ends be like, "You! Off!"
I'm holding out until April to chop though. Definitely. I've gotten this far, I can get through a couple more months.

Remember, we have less than 5 months to go!!!

In any case, kinky twists!

This is the day I got them. At first they felt a little heavy, mostly because they were really tight, but after a while they loosened up and now I can swing my hair all over the place no problem. I've had them in about a month now and I already have at least a half inch of new growth. I'll probably take them out sometime around Silvester, maybe a little after. We'll see..

Anyway, it's cold outside (at least where I live) and the spring is the best time to do the BC because everything blooms and grows. But if you decide to leave the Spring Chop Off cuz you can't take it anymore...I truly understand.

I am transisitoning as well and I have not relaxed my hair since 10/08 and I have not done b/c. My hair is layered, I think I am scared of what my natural hair looks like. I think that I am going to grow out the perm and continue with getting my hair trimmed.
At first I was going to grow my hair out longer and then trim it slowly then I realized what my true motives were and how off it was. I've always had long hair and and didn't want to have short hair. I was willing to carry around dead damaged hair because I thought the length of it would be more attractive than a short head of healthy hair. So now I'm researching salons gettin' ready for the BC.

I'm 13 months into the transition so I've got a good 6-7 inches of new growth. So, even when I cut off the damaged hair (which is probably another 7-8 inches), I'll still have some length.
It'll probably still be a shock, though -- it's been so long since I've had short hair!
But, I'm tired of the two textures. Detangling is a nightmare and the longer it gets, the more obvious the differences between the two and, well... it just plain looks weird!

I finally decided that healthy hair would result in length anyway and started to focus on that.

Good luck with the BC!
I'm on the fence.
My most recent relaxer was in May.
I've been alternating between flat irons and flat twist outs.
However, I think that the tightness of the flat twists have caused breakage at the line of demarcation.
It looks kinda crazy.
I'm tired of seeing hair everywhere when I comb, brush or shampoo.
But, on the other hand, since I was natural last year... I don't know if I'm ready to deal with it being that short with that really straight patch dead center.
If anyone can offer any advice or support, please do so.
Check out my picasa album to see 2006-2007 pictures of all natural hair and that straight patch I'm talking about.
