Unsure when to BC

I've decided, after almost a year of weaves, to BC. My last relaxer was 5/29/08, my prom and to prevent subsequent breakage (and a lot of grimaces in pain, lol) I'll have to BC, right? I'm just not sure, heh. I've been researching for months and this site has helped me a lot.
Still, it's all new to me...especially the hair typing. I mean, all I know is whatever new growth was there, it was a lowercase "s" pattern in the curls; the crown was the same and the back and the nape was coily and had no curl definition. This was all when it was washed and dried. Anyway =D,would it be good to BC in May, so it's a year or a little later? I know it's up to me in the end but everyone here is so knowledgable of their hair and knows just what they're doing . Thank you!

What you said is true; it really is up to you. You should realize though that your hair will shrink more than you think it will after you bc. So if length is a real concern for you, I would say hold out as long as you can. In May you'll have a year's worth of growth which will probably be a good amount.
I transitioned for 11 months. At first I wanted to go longer, but after I took out my twists and saw how much new growth there was, I just thought it wasn't worth it anymore to hang onto the length.

Either way, can't wait to see pictures when you do decide to BC!

I agree with mixeded. If you are concerned with length than you should wait. When I did the BC, I only had three months of new growth. I thought it wouldn't be a big deal because I have had short haircuts when I relaxed. However, I forgot about the shrinkage and curls. I wished I had waited for a few more months. My daughter is currently transitioning. She is thinking about doing the BC in June. She has shoulder length hair and she doesn't want to have a twa when she does the BC. Whatever you choose to do, I am sure it will be beautiful. Good luck!

You sound really excited and anxious to BC ... i dont blame you I am too. But just as the other have said, you need to do it when you are ready and i think there will come a time when you say to yourself "Im ready to do this" and at that moment to will feel confident enough to do the BC. Good luck and make sure to show us pictures whenever you decide to do it.
Thank your very much for the feedback, guys! I'll take it little by little and I'm sure I'll BC when the time comes along.
