Default Shrinkage: How much?

Hi! I'm hoping you ladies might be able to give me some perspective about shrinkage. I am seriously about to chop off my relaxed ends. I am feeling SO compelled to do this. This week marks my one year transition. I have about 5 - 6 in. of new growth. I also have about 5 inches now of relaxed ends--I've been cutting off an inch or so periodically for a couple months now.

I've heard many of you BCers talk about an UNEXPECTED amount of shrinkage. More than you bargained for. Could you share?

Logic says the straight ends will weigh down the curled roots, so if the ends are gone...

I'm thinking I can deal with 5 - 6in. of new growth, but what if it shrinks to like 2 inches? That, I'm not ready for. I can appreciate my sistas who beautifully rock TWAs with their cute little heads, but your girl right here has a melon! Ha!

Hey, I say go for it. You can deal with it! You'll get lots of suggestions and support. Shrinkage? My wet hair in the back was on my shoulders this morning. It's right about at my widow's hump now or mid-neck. That's around 3" of shrinkage. So, what else can I tell you about?

Thanks, SBB! That's pretty much what I was afraid of. But...have no fear, right???

Did you go to a professional for your chop, or do it yourself?

I got chopped over 14 months and 3 haircuts. I was so ready for that last cut. And definitely went to a pro curly salon that was Ouidad and now Curlisto affiliated. If anyone sees me near my own hair with scissors, call 911. I go to a Devaconcepts salon now and get cut about 2 x a year. Last cut was October. Probably get it done again in May. A good cut makes life soooo much easier.

Feel the fear and do it anyway
