Cool How long does it take to grow out relaxer?

I've been transitioning for a little over a year, and I'm not going to do the BC. My hair blends in fairly well with the relaxed ends. If i keep getting regular trims, about how much longer would it take to grow out the relaxer?? I can't wait until it grows out

It really depends how long your hair is and how long you want it to stay. Hair typically grows about 1/2" per month and curlies have varying degrees of shrinkage, so it doesn't always LOOK like a 1/2" per month.

OreoKJ,

I am nearly 13 months into my transition with hair that is 17 inches long in total. Of that 17 inches 6.5 is naturaly hair and the rest is relaxed. At this rate it is going to make me more than 1 year if I don't let my stylist get to doing some serious trimming.

when relaxed, I had shoulder length hair. So now that I'm six months into it, the back of my head is half natural (about 4-4 1/2 inches strecthed) half relaxed. The front 1/3 of it is natural (about 2 1/2-3 inches stretched) and the rest is relaxed... for some reason the front grows so much slower than the back..

I am finally 14 months into my transition and I'm about done. Like the previous poster, the front half of my hair grows SO SLOW but the back has been done transitioning for a few months. I have 2-3 inches of relaxed ends left around the front.

Like you, I had no plans to BC because the relaxed hair blended just fine (except the front but I covered it up with headbands). I took great care of my hair and it grew so fast. I did mini trims myself every few months to get rid of the ends though I wouldn't recommend that, I just haven't found a stylist who isn't scissor happy.

Happy growing!!!

I am about to celebrate 2 years with no chemicals (last relaxer in September 2007.) When straightened, my hair is a little past my shoulders. I currently have some areas of my head that are completely curly and some that look like i just missed my last perm. The biggest problem is I was flat ironing regularly and now I am paying the price. I have also been trimming it pretty regularly too so the straight ends are leaving quicker than they would if I wasn't trimming. I am considering doing a major cut (about 3 inches) this week. Hang in there, it is well worth it.

I've been growing mine out for 9 months. everyone is different. I thought I would be able to trim until all of the relaxed hair is gone but the longer my hair gets the more it shed and break and looks very bad. So I may have to do the big chop soon and just get a sew in for the next 6 months until it grow. My hair is now to my chin with 4 inch of new growth. It may be longer now but I have not straighten my hair on about 3 months
