I'm half way through week 6!!! I'm noticing that my hair is shinier even without using oils.

When I separate my curls like in the "tightly curly method" my hair is beginning to curl more like
spirals/shingles. It's starting to grow on me. I co washed last night after deep conditioning for about 6 hours. I let my hair air dry.

This morning I sprayed my hair with water and shook after about 10 minutes. I decided to leave my curls as is without scrunching out the crunch to see if I can get an extra day of fresh curls for tomorrow!

I'm transitioning to natural hair. I want to begin the CG method. Can I clarify my hair with a sulfate free shampoo like Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Threat and Kinky Curly's Come Clean. Will these two shampoos remove build up from silicones?

@hippiedoll

According to the CG method you should use a sulfate shampoo to remove the silicones. However, I was told that you could use some shampoos with less harmful sulfates.

Because I had already given up sulfates I used Renpure Organics shampoo & then followed up with She Moisture Black Soap Purification Mask to remove anything left on my hair.

To directly answer your question... I believe that the shampoos that you listed are too gentle to remove the silicones.

I don't mind using a sulfate shampoo to remove build up from silicones. However, I've notice a lot of the sulfate shampoos I have laying around contain silicones. How can I wash away silicones when they're being placed back into my hair. I haven't used a sulfate shampoo in almost 2 years. I haven't noticed any dulling effects to my hair only recently.

Hippiedoll, as long as the shampoo you're using has Cocamidopropyl Betaine, or Cocobetaine, it will remove any and all silicones from your hair. No need to use a sulfate shampoo.

So... I am amazed! I have this phony pony that I wore faithfully while I was transitioning. The phony pony looks like a straw set pony. I've worn it maybe twice since I big chopped.

I decided to put my hair in a ponytail & wear my phony pony today. I wanted to see what it would look like with some bangs out... This CG method has caused my curls to match the straw set type curls in my "old faithful phony pony".

Here are pics... Other than my bangs being a bit more shiny, my hair really matches & I can wear bangs with it when I want to wear a protective style!

WOW! Your hair looks amazing and I can TOTALLY see a difference between when you started and now. I thought your curls looked pretty good in the beginning so I was sure there wasn't going to be much change but wow... your hair is even more gorgeous. Thank you so much for doing this. I started CG this month and have been looking for a thread just like this. I can already see (and feel) a difference in my hair after only 2 weeks. I wasn't sure it could get much better but your journey has me extremely excited to see where my hair will be by this time next month!

In the CG handbook Lorraine Massey says that once your hair retains moisture it will grow!!

My first twist out... I'm thinking that I need to try a blow out then twist on dry hair for better definition. I think I may make the twist a bit more chunky also.

I put on a goody elastic headband & pinned the sides back. Then added a flower to jazz it up.
