I just read through your entire blog & pics. It's very inspirational because a lot of people would want to give up thinking there has been little improvement or would see improvement and stop not realizing what is to come. Your curls became even more beautiful & your growth was amazing.
I thought I was doing the CG method by conditioner only washing & finger combing but in order for it to work properly do I need to co-wash on a daily or every other day basis? I know you said you stopped using gel...do u think its better to initially start off using the gel? Thank you again for sharing your progress... I now plan to do the same...post pics after every wash etc. i think it'll help me hold myself accountable. Final question, are u able to do twist out, Bantu knots and braids outs while doing the CG method or do you have to go through training your curls before you do that?

Being CG means not using sulfates nor silicones on your hair. So you'll basically just use products that are water soluble, as you won't have the sulfates of your (sham)poo to wash them out anymore. You'll probably need to avoid mineral oil/parafinum liquidum too since they aren't water soluble.
How often you wash your hair (either co-washing or conditioning cleansers) is up to you and your personnal preferences.
A lot of us are modified CG,meaning that we will sometimes use a low poo to get rid of build up, or some of us will even still use some cones since they feel their hair needs it.
But the most important thing is doing what works best for YOUR hair!! What works for me may not work for you at all since we all have uniques types of hair ..
Going CG is trial and error!

Hi, thank you very much for the compliment. This journey was not the easiest but it was certainly well worth it. The main thing is patience & learning to love the your hair in the process. Going CG is giving up the silicones, sulfates, mineral oils, petroleums, etc... Also, CG method moisture trains your hair.
I believe the is what made the biggest difference in my hair & the health of my hair. It's up to you how often you co wash. When I first started I was doing it every other day but then started rinsing then reapplying my silicone free conditioner every other day & co washing once per week.
After a good while & even now I only cowash oncer per week after I deep condition @ wear my wash n go for the week. I actually have started back using gel for my wash n go. However, if I'm just wearing a simple pony puff the I use only conditioner.
The main thing is to figure out what works best & is simple for you. Yes, you can do Twistouts, Bantu knot outs, & braid outs doing the CG method. I don't do them often at all just because I love my natural curl pattern much better since CG has transformed my hair. Taking pics throughout your journey truly helps to see the transformation & growth especially when you feel like you don't see a difference.
Thank you for following my journey & I wish you great success in yours!!!

Can someone clarify if this is correct for the CG Method? I'm new!
sulfated based shampoo wash
co-wash with light silicone free conditioner, then rinse out
use a thicker conditioner and partially rinse (use as leave in too)
Thanks!

The sulfate based shampoo wash is like a final cleansing before going CG.
You'll probably never need it again, even if CG doesn't work. (There are many better more natural and less stripping options).
And really, tailor CG to whatever works for you. The original method says "use a gel." I don't use a gel, and my hair is still behaving. But traditionally, yes, you use a thicker conditioner to wash out with (they call it an RO).
You can leave it in for a leave-in, but there are a lot of people that wash out the RO completely before re-adding for leave-in. I think that decreases bacteria buildup as well...

A lot of us fully rinse out our thicker conditioner, then apply a leave in conditioner (even if we use our rinse out as a leave in). For me, I feel I have better control over the amount left in my hair when I completely rinse my RO out of my hair, then add my leave in. Some do prefer the "partially rinse the thicker conditioner and go" method. You'll have to experiment to see what works better for you.
On the sulfate shampoo, be sure whichever one you use is silicone free, otherwise you'll leave silicones in your hair which hinder your hair from optimal moisture absorption. Suave Naturals shampoos are cheap and are all silicone free if your current shampoo is not.
