Question Gummy hair, new product?

Hello, Im generally new to being CG and still have a few questions. Off the bat I bought the DeVaCare set of no poo, one condition, and arcangel. My hair seems to get gummed up after 2 uses then I have to baking soda and ACV rinse.

My question is no matter what products you use will you get to a point where it gets gummy? Just because the product Im using gets gummy is that a reason to stop using it?

Also, when I run out of my DeVaCare no poo and one condition I plan on using products that are more wallet friendly and that I can get at drug stores.

My other question is what should I look for? I know you need ones without *list all the no no ingredients here* and I know everyone's hair is different but is there something I should look for? I saw the post for CG on a budget and the list of conditioners. But what conditioners fall under the "use for co washing" category and what conditioners fall under the "use for conditioning" category? Do I just pick to conditioners from that list? Is it that easy?

Thanks curlies!

You may be using the products incorrectly.

I only use the no poo once or twice a week. The other days I use the one condition much as I would a shampoo focusing on massaging my scalp.

After I rinse the one condition - I place a small amount back into my soaking wet hair. I get a good smooth (small) coating that I leave in.

Never dry with a terry towel! Use a microfiber towel - it eliminates he frizz. Scrunch with the towel up toward the scalp to remove excess water.

Then I never brush or comb my hair. While its still wet I coat it with the angel. Experiment. It's easier to get a good even coat of this sealer if you do it in sections. Don't forget the nape area.

Then let it dry without touching it! It will curl up and find its rightful placement.

Then when it's completely dry (30-40 minutes for me) I scrunch my hair to release the bouncy curls!

That's it!

It shouldn't feel gummy. You may be scrunching it before its actually dry.

Use a diffuser if you need to speed up the dry time. But do not touch it as that releases that seal that helps the curls dry nicely.

Hope that helps!

Sometimes I spritz my dry hair with a spray bottle of distiller water and vegetable glycerin with a few drops of essential oil. It moisturizers my curls.

Maybe I am doing it wrong. I normally do my hair every other day or every day. When I do my hair I use the No-poo and one condition every time together and like I said when it gets gummy I do the baking soda ACV. As far as everything else including the leave in, no brushing, towel, gel, diffuser, scrunch after dry, Im spot on.

I used the Deva products for two straight years, cleansing my hair almost every day with No-Poo and I didn't have issues with gumminess. Unless you're really overloading on product, it doesn't sound like your technique is off.

Maybe Im just still in the transition period. I know before I got in the shower that day my hair was pretty greasy. I stretched my wash out for 3 days I think. Maybe the low poo just couldnt cut through all of that grease and made it gummy.

Thanks everyone for replies.
