Default What am I doing wrong?

So, a week ago I did my last shampoo with an organixx sulfate free shampoo. This week I have been co-washing with suave coconut natural condish and treseme natural condish. I have been using LA sports gel (which I read is CG friendly). My hair (like my underneath layer) is still really brittle and dry. Should I put some coconut oil in my hair when I put gel in? I want to use an oil but am not sure of how. I'm doing this in hopes that my hair will stop breaking and grow out for my wedding (a year from today).

how long does your hair take to dry, short/long time?
for me my brittleness is improving with every new way that I manage to extend the time that it takes my hair to dry. why?
in my opinion a longer drying time indicates a better job of sealing in the moisture (because the extra water takes longer to come out).

my latest method is: first smoothing in as much conditioner as my hair will hold, and then some extra; then smoothing on a great amount of gel, concentrating on stretching the ends with my palms. I'm trying to learn how to avoid the scalp with the gel, because it stays wet for too long.

My hair takes forever to dry. I go to bed with it wet and when I wake up it's still pretty damp. I do the exact same thing, but it still looks fried-ish.

oil is a great idea, n the best thing is that you can use it how you want, there are no right or wrong answers to it; you just gotta do how it works best for you. maybe use same oil to SOTC from the gel? or use it underneath so that your hair wont absorb the gel, so to speak. just try different things n see what works best.

Maybe your hair still needs time to adjust. It took me about a good month to start having healthier feeling and looking hair.

I agree with greencup, my hair is always up & down for the first two months I go CG. if none of your products have cones you'll be all good in a few weeks(:

fine bleached 2a/3b hair that doesn't actually curl, it's just like an S shape that just gets tighter. sometimes some of it curls underneath though.

It's because, unless they've changed the formula (I doubt it) organic shampoos have silicones. From what I remember, anyway. If you clarify with a shampoo that doesn't have cones you should be fine.

Your final shampoo may have had hidden 'cones in it... this happened to me when I first started CG, and I had to start over with a sulfate wash.

If it didn't, you may want to start paying attention to ingredients in your products. For example, many curlies find LALSG drying because it has both glycerin and protein. You may be sensitive to one or both of these ingredients, but the only way to tell is through experimentation. Maybe try a gel without these ingredients such as Herbal Essences set me up or Aussie instant freeze.

Have you tried deep conditioning? When my hair is brittle, I use a deep treatment like CJ curl rehab or JC deep treatment, and it brings my hair back to life.

Good luck!
