Default Doing CG on my 6 year Old...Product Help Please?

Hi,

I have made a huge mistake of combing through my daughters hair when it was dry for a few years. I would spray bottle and comb it out and the same time. Then scrunch and add styling products. That worked for a while with her curls but I think I damaged it all. Its now waves where the curls were. She still has curls all around her face but I think I damaged her curls in the back. I am going to try the CG method to hopefully get her hair back to healthy 3A Curls again. I am so new to this bc I have straight hair.

Can you Please suggest some products for me to use on her? Since she is only almost 7 I dont want to use very strong products on her but I also want to bring back her curlies if I can.

Thanks so much!

It's not so bad to comb when the hair is dry, I do that on my daughter all the time. The best time to comb is when the hair is covered with conditioner, because it provides extra slip. The worst time is to comb when the hair is wet, because wet hair is more elastic and fragile.

You want to be sure you're combing gently, don't force the comb through anything. If the comb gets caught in a tangle, start again near the tip and work your way up using short strokes. You could also try a tangle teezer brush. I find it to be gentler than a comb. Also try oiling the hair lightly to prevent tangles. (regular olive oil works well)

What products are you using now? What is the thickness, porosity, elasticity of your daughter's hair?

I use a very simple routine on my 2 yo. (she has fine, non porous, low elastic, 2b hair) I brush out tangles with a tangle teezer brush, wash her hair with just water, then oil her hair with olive oil. Rarely I'll use a very mild shampoo like everyday shea bubble bath. Everyday shea conditioner is a very simple formula too, I use it on myself, but I haven't found it necessary for her. You can find those at whole foods and they're a good price. If I want to enhance her curl, I might use a little aloe vera gel.

2c/3a-M-ii porous, good elasticity, APL, dark brown with a silver lining. Biggest enemy: frizz!
