No-POO/DevaCurl Products
Hi Everyone!
I recently started using the DevaCurl products and I think that I have fallen in love! I used to use pureology but DevaCurl is much better. I love the No-Poo shampoo and the OneCondition is fantastic. I just got a "DevaCut" this weekend and it is the best hair cut that I have ever gotten. I live in Southern california and I went to Vicki at Andavi Salon. The only down side was it was REALLY expensive but it is a great hair cut. If anyone has any questions about who I went to or anything like that just email me!
Best,
Sophia

Basically, all of the above.
If you're wanting to go the strict 'no poo' route, you'll get rid of any products that have a sulfate (Sodium Laurel/Laureth, Ammonium Laurel/eth, etc... namely, shampoos), and any product that has a silicone (generally speaking, anything ending in 'cone, 'xane or 'conol.)
There are a number of of silicones that are water soluble, which you CAN use on the no-poo method but that some still seem to have issues with. So it might be best to do without them for now, and see how your hair responds.
Suave and V05 conditioners are popular around here for cowashing, Herbal Essences gels are popular for styling. There are tons of other products, but these are definitely the 'main' set you hear about most often that are easily found at drug stores.

I am also wondering about how often to co wash. I tried doing this once before but my hair just ended up lying flat on my head. But! I'm going to try again. So let's say I decide not to co wash - does this just mean the scalp area? Or does it include the length of the hair - because I can't imagine not using conditioner on the longer part of my hair- it would just be a mess. And, will just water on the scalp area get rid of the product (example, I'm using LA Looks gel, whatever #8 is)
And I hate to say it, but I use a little bit of hairspray, right in the front - because I have to use bobbypins to give a little lift right at the front of my hair, and if I don't use hairspray, it'll just fall right beck where it was. Will this wash out with conditioner?
Thanks for any help!

does it smell?
tell me the truth guys- does your hair smell a bit? I like the idea of joining the no-poo movement, but I have to admit I'm a little hesitant.
Also I heard about someone who doesn't shampoo but uses a baking soda/vinegar rinse once a month. Do you guys think this is a good move for our curly locks?

Initial shampoo to remove the nasties before starting CG
Hi everyone
Am a newbie - have bought all the new CG friendly products and am just about to launch into a CG routine. I thought I'd just look at the first post from Gretchen on this thread - to check off that I know what I am doing when I read about making sure you last shampoo doesn't contain any cones - aarrgghhh! The shampoo I've been using is, of course, full of them! However, I do have a brand new bottle of Kerastase Nutritive Bain Satin - 3. I had a look here:
http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/bro...incat=haircare
and I checked off the ingredients on the back of the bottle and I can't see any cones. But, it does contain Acrolytes copolymer. I did look this up - some sort of plastic. Does anyone know if this is water soluble. Basically, can I use this product as my final shampoo before starting CG?
Thanks everyone

hi i just bought the L’oreal everpure rosemary juniper moisture shampoo and the and L'Oreal Vive Pro Hydra Gloss conditioner. the shampoo is sulfate-free but it does have the mild sodium cocoyl isethionate in it (which im ok with). and i read that the conditoner was totallly silicone free and good to use but then i read the ingredients and it has amodimethicone in it. will the sodium cocoyl isethionate remove the amiodimethicone or should i just buy a new conditioner?

Before when I use to be CG my hair never stink because I wash it every other day or every few days.I rather wash my hair every week now because I don't want my hair to be wet all the time( I air day my hair and use a T shirt). Now I'm a modified CG(means to shampoo once in a while) but few months ago I decided to switch from a regular shampoo( mild shampoo that uses cleansers like coco betaine) to soap nut to wash my hair.I read that soap nuts are very gentle and it cleans very good. This is the soapnut that I have but I haven't use it as yet.

How often...
If you're doing the no-poo/low-poo method, how often do you recommend "washing"?
I just started on the DevaCurl line and it says for everyday use, but is that too often?
I think my hair is in the 3b range, with a bit of 2a/2b in it.
Fine/Medium Hair, but I'm not sure on the porosity yet.

i just tried the no poo method for 4 days and so far my hair is looking better. maybe it is winter now, thus my hair is not affected by the humidity. i often have to blow or straighten my hair which is time consuming. i am using tresemme conditioner coz it is cheap and smells nice. i will keep up this method and maybe cut down the days of washing as i am co washing everyday.

I need clarification on becoming a true CG. Am I doing this right? HELP!
I keep seeing a reference to co-washing. I don't wash my hair, even with conditioner every day. I am a 4a and my routine goes like this:
I have my new love potion that I got from a curly sister on You Tube and it consists of (12oz. of distilled water, 4oz. of Now 100% Vegetable Glycerine, 1 TBL + 1 tsp of Olive Oil and 10 drops of Rosemary essential oil). I shake it up in my squirt bottle and spray lightly on my hair when I wake up in the morning. While I'm in the shower the steam and light sprays from the shower get my hair moist enough to detangle with my wide tooth comb. Once it's detangled, I rub about a nickle size amount of Carol's Daughter Hair Milk (I love this stuff) in my hair and it really gives shine and curl definition without the frizz. I use a little Eco alcohol-free syle gel on my edges and I'm out for the day. I massage Vatika oil which has (henna, amla and coconut oils) in my scalp 3 or 4 days a week at night before going to bed. Sometimes if I really want a boost in shine, I'll use Carol's Daugher Hair balm. This is my daily routine and then 1 once a week on Saturday, I wash with Carol's daughter Rosemary Mint Herbal Shampoo with Sea Moss for Dry, Damaged Hair. I spray on the Black Vanilla Leave-in from that line because I do not have a really good deep conditioner yet. I also use Shea Moisures Leave-in from time to time. I do a hot oil treatment weekly with Africa's Best Ultimate herbal Oil w/Ginseng and now that I am out of that, I am going to try the Hesh Amla oil Gold for my hot oil treatments (get that up the street at the Indian grocery store). I need a suggestion on a really good deep conditioner for natural 4a hair as well.
Thanks in advance for your help

I shampoo with this once a week, is it bad?
I just need to know if my Rosemary Mint Herbal shampoo with Sea Moss is good for my hair. It has Rosemary, peppermit and sea moss in it. It's Paraben, petroleum and mineral oil free with no artificial color. Most of the ingredients look to be natural but here are the ones that I ?:
Sodium Magnesium Silicate, Peg-150 Distearate, DMDM Hydantoin and Iodopropynyl Butylcrbamate, Phenoxyethanol, Tetradibutyl and Pentaerithrity
What are these and are they bad for my 4a natural curls? These are the very last ingredients in the listing of ingredients.

I am a newbie, so I am just getting started on here. I just did a pure virgin coconut oil treatment on my hair, and it looks great!!
The main problem I am having on here is trying to determine my hair type. Looks like 3a, but it can be just wavy at times too being as it is getting longer.
Don't understand some of the short terms on here. Figure out what CG meant though! LOL!
Looking forward to making some new curly girl friends on here!
