Help!

Hi! I bought the CG book and started the No Poo plan. My hair felt gross. A friend suggested the Baking Soda wash with the ACV rinse. I have been doing that for about 3 months. My curls improved. Then they started getting very dry! I had stopped using conditioner but my hair was looking great. I started to use conditioner a few times a week because my hair was becoming brittle.Over the last 2 month my curls have gotten less and less, now I have almost straight hair. What am I doing wrong!?! I have been washing with the baking soda, and following with Panteen Curly hair conditioner. I recently colored my hair, then soaked it with olive oil for 2 nights! My curls came back better than ever but promptly disappeared. Now I'm not sure what to do. I changed conditioner to Garnier Fructis Pure Clean conditioner. I'm not sure what products or what method to do with my hair! I'm pretty sure I am a 2C with fine hair and a low porosity. The color I put on my hair 2 weeks ago has almost washed out completely!
Emily, it sounds as if you are doing too much. A suggestion: dial way back. Stop everything, except a very gentle no poo or lo poo once or twice a week, followed by a gentle, mild conditioner. No baking soda or acv. Use a curl creme, or a little gel.

Use products that don't contain silicone or any ingredient ending in cone, zone, or zane. Think: less is more. Gentle, and give your curls time to recover.

Sometimes we get very enthusiastic about something and do too much. I do that quite often!

I hope that helps. Please post back and let us know how you are doing.
2/c and some 3A. Modified CG.
Protein sensitive
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
'm having a hard time finding what lo poo and no poo is? What products do you suggest I start with? I currently do not have any shampoos in my house
Em, it is all explained in the book you have, better than I could explain it but basically, ordinary shampoo contains sulfates, like ammonium lauryl sulfate. A lo poo doesn't contain that, but some gentler cleanser. No poo is usually a conditioner that is used as a cleanser.

If you post in the 2 thread, ask for some suggestions for lo poo shampoos or no poo shampoos. Actually, people with type 2 hair can usually get away with ordinary shampoos.

I know it seems overwhelming, but you just need to take it one step at a time and try asking for suggestions one a time. First, shampoo, then conditioner, then styler.

It's like coloring a picture - you are trying to fill in all the colors with 48 crayons. Just try the basics first - with 12 crayons. I hope that explains it better. Good luck with this! You'll figure it out if you take time and are patient with yourself.

Yes, and the baking soda is way too harsh. It's worse than shampoo
curlypearl likes this.
My Hair
Tresemme Naturals Conditioner - Cowash and Leave In
Garnier Frutis Sleek & Shine Shampoo (once a week)
Garnier Pure Clean Gel
Fave Oils- Grapeseed, Jojoba, Apricot
Thanks for the help. I started with a lo poo and a protein conditioner and now I'm back to normal! Actually I'm better than normal! My curls are the best they have ever been!
