Working out every day: advice needed about washing -.-
Hi all!
I'm working out almost every day, i usually rest once or twice a week. I sweat a lot so i have to wash my hair daily, but i'm scared about damage my hair, so i need advices. Before my recent big chop, i wash my hair every 2 days with a baby shampoo (johnson baby shampoo which has sulfate but it's milder than other sulfate shampoo). Now i was thinking that maybe it would be better to wash everyday but using milder routine. Repeated CW leaves my hair greasy and mushy, so i was wondering about this routine: 1) wash with sulfate-free shampoo once a week 2) CW in the remaining day What do you think about this routine? Thank you! :happy4: |
See what your hair likes. I also wash daily due to intense workout and I rote between straight co-washing, cleansing conditioners (my personal favorite) and low-poo (sulfate-free shampoo). I decide in the morning what to use based on what products I used the day before and how my hair feels. If it feels a little drier I use a more gentle option. If I used heavy styling products the day before I go with a stronger cleanser. I also generally use rich ROs and lots of protein (my hair is fine and loves protein).

I work out 5x a week and I'm a heavy sweater too (I can literally wring the sweat out of my hair) and I just cowash every morning with a light weight conditioner and then follow up with a heavier conditioner. I only use shampoo 1x a week because you really don't need it to remove sweat...the conditioner is enough to do that and it won't strip your hair.

Today i was tempted to do a WO wash, but i had some styling product residues on my hair so i decided to do a CW :occasion5: My hair is thin in density and -fortunately- unwilling to knot, so i can do all the wash/condish routine with only one product :) P.S. : i'm on fitnesspal, too (even if i don't take part in the forum :D) |
I've been doing the shampoo free method for over a month now and my hair looks amazing in the morning! However, I go to the gym at lunch everyday..pull my hair back with bobby pins and put a loose ponytail in. My hair looks terrible after lunch and it's so frizzy!
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to "spruce it up" before going back to work? I really only have like 10 minutes to change and make myself presentable! |

Hope this helps and for a reference, I have 4b coarse low porosity hair. Good luck! |
I don't sweat as much as others because I'm always cold (reptile blooded) but I do do a pretty heavy cardio workout every other day. (In the days between I do lighter exercises that won't get me sweaty like yoga.) It's intense so I always wash my hair afterwards. My routine is co-wash, co-wash/sometimes tea tree scalp treatment then water wash, then low-poo once a week. But if I'm feeling especially grimy I may low-poo twice a week or whatever I feel like. I also have a clarifying shampoo on hand to use as needed. You could always pre-poo the length of your hair if you needed to in order to prevent your hair from drying out. I think washing with a baby shampoo with gentle sulfates once to twice a week is really good though.
