Young man attempting the no shampoo method :O

I figured coming to website for women's hair would the best way of going about things when it comes to hair talk ha.

Here's a brief summary of my hair:

Caucasian
Medium length (not too crazy)
Wavy to curly (more wavy then curly)
Very thick
Very dry

I am currently using Tresseme Naturals Cone free conditioner and lower sulfate Shampoo, along with Suave leave in conditioner. I wanna stray away from shampoo as it makes my hair very poofy and dry. Today I tried using just the conditioner, i used more then I usually do and my hair came out soft but dryer then usual. Could my hair not like the protein thats in it? If so, any recommendations on products to use (not too terribly expensive) ? I'm not big on oils and such, nor gel. I am just looking for shampoo and conditioner (mainly conditioner, since I am going away from the shampoo :P).
Is your hair course? If it is then the protein could cause problems, if you have a Sally near you try the GVP conditioning balm. Very thick and moisturizing and protein free . If you are conditioner only styling leave most of it in and try finding a good leave in. As I am has a good one at Sally's. I really like their Co wash also. Good luck!!

A lot of people I've talked to use Suave's natural coconut conditioner as their no-poo.

Congrats on trying the no-poo thing. I have wavy poofy dry hair too, and its done wonders for me. Also check out CurlyWavyDiane on YouTube as she recently did a video on a conditioning method for dry hair.

That conditioning balm is like a leave in conditioner, should I be using that for CO washing?

And to the other women, suave naturals has both cones and protein in it.

Im just a little timid of using a conditioning balm for washing my hair .

What leave in would you recommend?
I would recommend getting a cheap light conditioner for a co wash. Vo5 has some with no protein. I really like the As I Am leave in from Sally's it's nice. I don't think it had protein. Also a lot on here like the kinky curly knot today as a leave in you can find it at Target I haven't tried it tho. Everyone has different hair tho. Even if we had the same properties we might not like the same products. Experiment!!

So, I haven't got around to getting the conditioners yet. Today, though, I decided to just wash with tresseme sulfate reduced shampoo and wow, what a difference. My hair still is a little dry but not nearly as bad. It feels lightweight and I'm able to actually style it. To be honest, I think I'll be abandoning the no poo method. I am fairly active and the shampoo is important to me .

So should I try to find a completely sulfate free shampoo with no protein and combine it with a vo5 protein free conditioner?

It just floors me that my conditioner has been ruining my hair
There are plenty out there if that's whet you want to do. The Shea moisture shampoos are sulphate free but check ingredients as some of them have protein. Also the loreal ever line has many also. VO5 is good and cheap but IMO not the best as a rinse out conditioner. Not heavy or moisturizing enough. Tresseme naturals is nice or suave naturals also. The coconut one has protein but I think the rest are safe
