CG, when did you start getting results?

Like Tree1Likes

Hey fellow curlies,
I just started the no-poo method last week and I am already amazed how different my hair looks. I've been straightening my curls for six years so I thought it wasn't curly at all anymore, just unruly. Turns out I do have curls after all!

I was wondering how long it took for you guys to really get shiny and bouncy curls after going cg?
I found my hair looked great straight away! The first time I tried CG after growing out all my straight ends I had bouncy, shiny curls. Buuut I hadn't wore it curly for about eight years; so when I went fully CG, that was when I wore it fully natural for the first time. Could be that my hair is naturally shiny and bouncy

Of course when I was 12 or so CG wasn't around and I had my natural curls then. Looking at my hair back then I definitely see a difference. My curls were a lot frizzier, but I do think I still had shine and bounce. Plus back then I had a lot more volume than I do now and I think my hair was curlier.

I don't think the 'bad' changes in my hair are from CG. My hair may simply have changed over the years, or my hair might be different because I still have a lot of heat damage OR it might be because I've only been CG since October lol. I think it's mostly because of heat damage.

Either way, my hair looks really good now and I'm happy with it. I think if I wasn't following the CG method I'd have a frizzy, undefined mop on my head lol.

What surprised me is that now that my hair is properly styled curly, I have no frizz. I used to have it all the time when I last wore it curly about 8 years ago. I do have some damage from highlights and constant straightening (silly me), so my curls tend to get a bit loose from the ends. I guess that will get better over time/ with trimming.

I think the hardest thing about CG is trying to find balance between sufficient amount of conditioner and gel. my hair tends to go limp and greasy with too much conditioning.
i started two years ago and it took a year till i saw results

I finally found my "niche" and I co-wash once a week. 2nd to 5th day hair looks better than 1st day hair and I touch my hair off and on all day long because it feels so good!

Blessings!

I started two months ago, before Halloween. I have seen slight results immediately after, bit more after I chopped my dead ends, and there was general improvement. I was conditioner-only for six weeks but then my curls kept looking limp although clean so I bought a gentle shampoo and since I started using that I also switched to different products richer in oils and better for hard water and my hair has looked so much better. Today I washed my hair with a protein conditioner and my curls were limper so maybe winter and protein aren't for me!

A 2C, hopefully something more as my hair gets redefined. Lots of chemical/heat damage to get rid of! Currently at shoulder length, aiming for mid-back.

(Any HtBlack you find anywhere on the internet is most likely always moi! :3)
I remember seeing results in like a week or 2. I visited my mom after maybe a month of CG and as soon as I got off the train and into the car she was commenting on how good and healthy my hair looked. Granted I had been telling her about the CG method which she sounded majorly skeptical of so I think she was looking pretty hard at my hair (and she certainly seemed surprised at my positive results) but the CG method definitely didn't take long.

The caveat to this, tough, is that I was growing out my hair from a pixie, so I didn't have years and years of damage to account for.
I remember seeing/feeling the results within a few days. My hair is softer and healthier now for sure. I'm still having trouble finding the products and the amount of products that my hair really takes to. Some days are excellent hair days, and other days are just okay. I also have bad hair days, and I realize that my hair has build up or needs to be washed. Before, I wouldn't have realized that.

Looking for new products and methods to try!

I've started to get compliments on my hair lately so I think a month in this is really working. However I've had to modify a bit, my hair simply does not like co-washing, it just gets limp and greasy looking on day one. I live in the northern Europe so it's super hard to even find CG friendly co-washes to begin with. I'm currently washing with John Masters scalp shampoo and I only wash the scalp, do you think the ingredients are ok?

(water, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, sodium cocoamphodiacetate, decyl glucoside, babassuamidopropyl betaine, panthenol, hydrolyzed soy protein, sorbitol, peppermint oil, spearmint leaf oil, guar hydroxpropyl trimonium chloride, spiraea ulmaria extract, sodium pca, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, eucalyptus globulus leaf oil, smithsonite extract, hyaluronic acid, linseed seed oil*, borago officinalis seed oil*, sunflower seed oil*, jojoba seed oil*, evening primrose oil*, tocopherols)
I haven't used shampoo in many years but I still remember how quickly my hair changed when I started condition washing and gave up the silicone serums. It happened quickly!

I noticed a color change in just a couple of days. (I was using soap bars with hard water - talk about scum on the hair!)
My curls got better within a few weeks. But it wasn't until about 3 months that I *really* noticed the difference in my hair's health.
2c-3a - coarse - normal-high porosity - high density - growing out to donate

I started CG'ing in Feb. of 2012. I started seeing results that I liked around July. Thus, around 5 months. However, I like the way my hair is now which is over a year and a half later. So it definitely varies. I noticed once I became more patient, I was more understanding that my hair wasn't going to recover fast from all the heat I used prior. Once I realized that for myself, I didn't give myself such a hard time. Also, once I understood ingredients better, I was able to find products I liked.
High Porosity, Fine, Thin Density, Low Elasticity
Co-wash, leave in, and gel: Alba botanica coconut cond., ogx mousse, &/or super wet look gel.

I could tell a difference in my hair the first time I did CG. It continued to improve over time, with marked improvement after each (Deva) cut, and the largest improvement after the last of my pre-CG hair was cut off. I've also noticed improvement over time since then, as I get better at treating it right, and have learned to get multi-day hair, since this helps prevent overwashing it.
Peace,
Morgan

Baby Fine 3B, low porosity, normal density and elasticity
CGing since July 2008
Yeah It still is hard get consistent results and to find which products work for my hair, I have quite porous and fine hair but there is a lot of it. Also, literally no-one here in the Northern Europe have curls since most are straight haired blonds, lol. So youcan imagine it is very hard to find good products in the stores.

What products would u guys recommend to order online from amazon for instance?
I noticed a difference within the first 3 days. My hair is wavy, so before cg it was just sort of puffy and undefined, completely unmanageable. After it was smoother, more defined and softer to the touch.
2b/c, medium-coarse, high-density, medium-porosity, CG since 2011.

DT: Ion Effective Care, GVPCB, Yes to Cucumbers

My hair looked really gross for about a week, but now it looks great! My hair has never been so shiny and frizz-free.

I still use a tiny amount of (all natural) shampoo around my temples and hair-line once a week, but that's it! I'm hoping to cut that out once summer starts, but during the winter any additional grease in that area causes break-outs
I noticed a difference the very first time I cowashed and used a leave-in w/ lots of scrunching. Beautiful curls like I always wanted! Who knew.

It took a bit more than a month before my hair started feeling soft and not just greasy. For the first week of CG method it was very nice but then it turned very oily very quick and it was a couple more weeks before my hair got over that. I co-wash and haven't shampooed in 5 months, and I really notice the difference... although I still haven't quite got the frizz-management thing down :P
