I get this in the winter when my sebum seems to be harder and thicker. I use castor oil the night before a hair wetting. It seems to make the sebum thinner and more easy to remove.

I do my jojoba massages every night except tge night before washing. On that night i massage with Jamaican black castor oil and wash the next morning. Other than that every night is jojoba night. I have really thick hair too. All i do is put some oil on my fingertips and go directly to my scalp, i try to be as thorough as possible bit im sure i miss some scalp areas since i have tons of hair.

I will have to try. I even have castor oil on hand. I saw someone else uses castor oil mixed in with their conditioner when they do a cowash, that sounds like a good idea tooo although I always have bad results wtih cowashing, so maybe I should try it with my lowpoo. For me, I think part of it is rinsing. I told my husband, YOU wash my hair and see if it's me not getting everything out. He used a sulfate poo on Sunday. I used a lowpoo on Tuesday. After HIS wash, no white powder flakse. After my wash, just a little. My scalp is STILL irritated from having used sulfateS!!

I suggest continuing with regular low poos. Co washing was never enough for me. It didnt clean my scalp well at all! Low poo + jojoba has gotten my scalp in very good conditions. I also want to try MN for its anti fungal properties since i know the scalp gunk is probably causing bacteria that shouldnt be in there.

Thanks so mucj. I've got to try. I was good for a few days after my sulfate wash, but after two days of using gel and lowpoos, again product. Maybe oil daily will help that stuff get out of my hair. Thanks so much. Others say they find jojoba oil to be waxy. on their scalp. All I can do is try!!

OK I'm starting the oil plan, cuz this powder stuff in my hair is annoying. One question, please. Do you apply it to your scalp when your scalp is dry? Does it still work if your head is dry? I know oils lock in moisture so it's good to do it when it's wet, btut is is it still effective on a dry scalp?? Hope this works!! Also, I have castor oil as well. Some people say it clogs pores and doesn't let your hair breathe and others say it's great for promoting hair growth. What are your observations on that?

I had that problem too about half a year into cg,the itchy scalp before that. It's like a scab trying to heal and will stop.
As for the white stuff...I'm still working on that but it is mostly scrubbing like crazy that helps...also try to put less condish on the top of your head ,that might help

I've been reading the Curly Girl book (awesome book) and it says a itchy scalp is a sign that your scalp is healing from all the harsh sulfates in shampoos. I've been CG now for almost 3 weeks and I get a itchy scalp a lot too. The book also says to try a lavender spray in between washes

I'm having the same problem. I'm about 2-3 weeks into CG and I have an intense, white buildup of I-dunno-what on my scalp. I'll scratch and scratch my scalp untill I feel like I've torn of my scalp, but I can't always do this everytime I wanna take a shower. My hair also feels kinda... dirty although my curls do look better. I'm gonna ride this itchiness and guckiness out for a while.

If I just can't do it anymore, I think I'll shampoo my hair once a week to take care of the my scalp.

i don't know about castor oil but i do massage jojoba oil into my scalp nightly. i added a few drops of rosemary oil to it and that really invigorates my scalp at the same time. and i do it dry.

if you don't think you're getting to all your scalp well, try massaging it in sections.

to combat the white powder looking stuff, i have to wash my hair at least every other day with a moisturizing low-poo.

hope this helps a little!
