Unhappy I cant shift build up on my scalp.. advice needed please

I seem to have build up on my scalp. Its really itchy but when I scratch I get white yucky stuff under my nails! (I dont and never have suffered dandruff so it isnt that)

Ive done the sugar scrub twice and loads of ACV rinses but it just doesnt seem to be shifting it. straight after the sugar scrubs and ACV rinse, I can itch my head and se a tiny amount of the gunky stuff but the day after I'm itchy city again with loads of gunky stuff...

I cant use soda or powder and I have yet to try lemon but Im unsure as to how to use it and if they need to be fresh lemons or plastic lemons with just the juice inside.

Please help quickly as I cant stand having an itch scalp and feel like running for the 'poo

How are you washing your hair? You need to scrub it well, exactly as you would if you were using shampoo. My scalp is terrible, and I can't use conditioner on it at all, but even when I do water only washes, I scrub my scalp as if I was washing with shampoo, and the build up comes off.

Dumb question but there's no 'cones in any of the products your listed, right? If not, it could be some sort of sensitivity one of the ingredients. It almost sounds like a mild allergic reaction.

I also scrub vigorously to get rid of any scaly build up. There is always some there when I "wash" my hair which is every 7-10 days but I'm never itchy.

I scrub like mad when I co-wash wash my hair normally once or twice a week and the rest of the time I water wash and scrub like mad then detangle with conditioner.

I have super sensitive skin so as for an allergic reaction it is possible but I even used to get it even with shampoo. The only shampoo that doesnt give my the yucky stuff is head and shoulders 2 in 1! The worst shampoo for giving me it is Dove 2 in 1.

There are absolutly no cones, conols or xane's in anything Im using either.

Hmm I wonder what ingredient is in the H&S that relieves you of it?

I'm not much help. My scalp is good most of the time now that I don't use a bajillion products. Since you had it pre-CG, it may be some skin condition that one of the dandruff fighting ingredients in the H&S alleviates.

I think Im just strange..

I really think Im just crap at this whole CG thing. It has seriously improved the condition of my hair and Ive had 2nd day hair trice this week and Ive also had mostly good hair days this week also. Then today Its all frizzy and messy and the curls arent as curly and its just horrible again.

I think I might head back to the head and sholders and straightning irons, its easier that way and I dont have to wash and mess around with it every day either.

It sounds like psoriasis Becci. You can get natural products that will help with that.

H&S is now making conditioners as well - I wonder if they have cones in them? That might be something to look in to.

Also, try some tea tree EO mixed in to your conditioner (just a few drops until you figure out how much you need). You might be shocked how well that works.

And Becci, if you go back to the flat irons, I'll cross the pond myself and beat your curly little butt! Do you know how many women would KILL for the progress you've made in the last three weeks? Keep at it - you can get rid of the itchies. I remember about three weeks into CG I had a bad case of them, too - just like what you're describing. Try doing a wavy wash once a week to help alleviate the symptoms, and you should make it through the transition just fine. It's just your scalp freaking out and wanting to know where it's usual "fix" is. Now you have to opportunity to find a new fix, and get your scalp used to it before your wedding!

'Looks around sheepishly then puts the irons down and the 'poo back in the cupboard'

OK I will give it until Ive tried the tea tree, however I dont have EO so would the original source with mint and tea tree do the job?

Ive pinned my hair up for now because Im scratching so much my head has turned into a bunch of frizz. Im worried about going out incase people think I have lice or something like that.

It isnt psoriasis hun. My scalp looks fine its just itchy and stuff coming off when I itch.

Im can I 'poo? Pleaseeeeeeeee Im going crazy here... I really cant begin to explain how itchy I feel.

I dont know if you have nettles in the US but thats kind how I feel (like I fell into a nettle bush) but just on my scalp. Then on my crown it kinda feels like its burning. (think that might be me scratching though) and my scalp is starting to bleed where Im scratching so much, but I cant help it.

Like someone said earlier, I wonder if you're having an allergic reaction to something in one of your products? Even "natural" and "organic" products can be loaded with ingredients that folks can be sensitive to - like essential oils. Since you had this problem when you were using 'poo, is there any way you can check the ingredients of the H&S 'poo and the stuff you co-wash with now? Maybe there's a common ingredient to blame. Would you be able to have a dermatologist or pharmacist suggest anything?

Have you tried Borax? It's practically instant relief whenever I have an itchy scalp. Here's my post about it on another thread. Also, you might consider using a scalp brush too. Hope this helps.

Well the only common ingredient I can find in all of the conditioners I co-wash with and in the DOVE 2 in 1 is Citric acid. I went hunting for my head and sholders but I must of gave it away.

I havent tried Borax and to be honest Im a little confused.

I might clarify again with baby shampoo. Can someone let me know if this is ok to clarify with as this is what I used before:

From Asda - Little Angels Conditioning shampoo. Ingredients: Aqua, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium laureth sulphate, sodium chloride, olive oil PEG-7 Esters, Phhenoxyethanol, glycerin, PEG-80 Sorbitan laurate, parfum, methylparaben, hydroxypropyltrimonium honey, butylparaben, ethylparaben, citric acid, tetrasodium EDTA, propylparaben, isobutylparaben, sodium hydroxide, hexylene glycol, CI 15985, CI19140.

I hear ya with the buildup and itchy scalp. I've been CG now for like 3 years, I think. And still...my scalp is itchy and I get lots of "white gunky buildup". I think it's party due to the hard water at my house. When I shower at my fiance's house my scalp feels fine but at my house it's terrible.

Sometimes I think it's because I condition wash but it could also be that I don't do regular ACV rinses...actually, hardly ever! I just don't remember to do them.

Sometimes I use Long Lovely Locks Green Tea Hair Cleanse and that makes my scalp feel nice! I never really know what the ACV rinse does. All it does is make my hair extra knotty in the shower.

I had that too. I shampooed; it didn't help at all. Turns out I have to brush my hair once in a while. I'm just really careful.

This used to happen to me a lot, and I had to use a dandruff shampoo to try and help. Now that I think about it, it was when I CO washed a lot. Now I'm modified CG using a low-poo shampoo and I don't have the scalp build-up problem.

So maybe tried modified CG for a while?

Oh, and I never found ACV to do a thing for me.

Ok before I jump straight back to the shampoo Ive done another sugar scrub. I also like to add that it was the most painful thing second to childbirth! (I have really done a number on my scalp through itching!) It was also rather worrying seeing blood coming out of my hair on the rinse.

I sectioned my hair off into inch squares and went through it inch by inch. Then I gave it a good brush with an anti-snag paddle brush.

All I did afterwards was condition the length for 1 min then rinsed, brushed again then put in a little conditioner as leave in then brushed again and plopped.

I dare not put anything else in my hair until the stinging and burning leave my scalp. So I see alot of hair in a bun day until it heals.

I just hope the sugar scrub will have worked this time and that I dont wake up in morning with itchy gunky scalp again!

ouch sounds painful! I know we need to find a solution but I think for next few days leave your scalp alone, I say this because from the sounds of it your scalp is bleeding from the scratching. I have had this type of build up, gunk under my nails when I scratched and itchy, but I used to get this when I shampooed, I cant say I haven't really suffered from this lately though, and it went away after a cleansing/sugar scrub treatment. It sounds like your skin has had a reaction from something you are using, and is also possibly build up from a product. Im sorry I cant help more, Im rubbish at ingredients, but I can tell you that I don't get on with tea tree products, the original source mint and tea tree makes my head itch and skin react. I wouldn't shampoo simply because the stuff in that I can see making your scalp sting even more, not to mention dry your skin out.
