Default Really greasy hair after a week

Is this normal? My hair is so nasty and oily looking on the under layer. Is this part of the process? Or maybe my product is too heavy? I am SO tempted to wash it because it just looks disgusting.

Any advice?

I had this not long ago (I'm nearly 2 weeks in). Baking soda and lemon juice solved my problem Baking soda: not sure how you're supposed to use it, but I made it into a paste with water and then used it the same way I use conditioner in a cowash. Lemon juice: most people seem to use some mixed with tehir conditioner in a cowash. I was so desperate to degrease that I just poured the juice of a whole lemon over my head!

Anyway, the next day my hair was degreased

Check your conditioner and styling products for silicones - anything that ends in 'cone, 'xane, or 'conol. These will build up and need sulfate shampoo to remove. It can take 4 - 6 weeks for your scalp and hair to adjust, so give it some time. Also, friction is very important to keep your scalp clean, so be sure to gently massage/scrub your scalp with your fingertips or a scalp brush and rinse well. The lemon rinse should help, or try an apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse. Good luck!

I have 2b / 3a hair, which I love but stopped shampooing 10 days ago - just out of curiosity. I am only using Alberto conditioner and Wella gel spray but my hair also feels greasy - not the scalp but the whole length. Hopefully I can use the dreadful wet UK weather to excuse my hair until it adjusts!

Squeezing half a lemon in to my co-wash when my hair feels limp or greasy always cures it.

Without having mentioned this thread / my hair, my husband said not half an hour ago that my hair looked much better than 'before'. Not dry or fluffy and the colour (dyed) holding better! So maybe its not feeling greasy but is actually feeling how its supposed to!

here's a blurb from Struttswife's page livecurlylive free:

[QUOTE]Your hair follicles can suffocate, they can become infected, and/or you can indeed start losing your hair over time. But it is not the sulfates in shampoo that keep your scalp and follicles clean -- movement and agitation are what do the cleansing. Think of a washing machine: that agitator in the middle that swishes your clothes back and forth is there for a reason. Without it, your laundry detergent would be fairly ineffective, no matter how many “mountain fresh” chemicals are loaded in there.
If you use a non-sulfate or conditioner cleanser once a week and give yourself a really good, brisk scalp massage while cleansing -- using your fingertips and rubbing your scalp with a firm, energetic circular motion -- you are massaging the sebum, dirt and debris out of your hair follicles while stimulating your sebaceous glands to maintain their proper function. The cleanser acts as an agent to carry that oil and debris away without damaging and drying out your hair shaft. That's the REAL purpose of a cleanser, not this sulfate-based shampoo crap that strips your hair of the moisture and essential oils that keep it healthy.

If, however, you use a non-sulfate or conditioner cleanser once a week and you squirt a bit on your scalp and kind of halfheartedly move it around, then rinse without really doing any kind of work, you aren't cleansing your scalp correctly and you may, in fact, start having problems. But it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you are not using shampoo. I've seen clients who use regular shampoo and their scalp is full of blackheads because they don't cleanse their scalp properly.

And if everything fails; change up your conditioner. I HATE, yes, HATE Suave for a cleaner, way to heavy for my oily hair. I am a minority, most people like the suave.

Hurrah! I have survived for 3 weeks, and my hair is curlier and no longer has the greasy feel. Its so easy and quick to follow the massage with conditioner and air dry although on the recent snowy days I have used the diffuser.

Yay! Glad your adjustment period is over. Time to start experimenting with products

yeah, but should you experiment at all? My hair looks better than it did before, and takes no time at all. If it flattens during the day I just spray (lavender water) and go! I am a high maitenance UK girl, so dont think I am slacking but still.... must get my daughter to take a pic for the site! I have followed the book to a T and with no styling products to wash out, its so easy to look after!

Thumbs up

I am currently having problems with this! And its because of one thing: Over product usage! I feel the need to put a boat load of products in my hair to keep it under control. So I reccomend ( I am about to do this) A sulfate shampoo (I hate the sound of it) to clean it out. Thats one of the only things I can think of at the moment. or wash out with lemon juice. Good luck!
OH! Also, you may have the same problem as me. Keep products to a minimal amount. If your hair feels dirty, wash it! Only do it when necessary!
