Dandruff vs Dry Scalp
I found a good article today that explains the difference between dandruff and a dry scalp.
Dandruff is definitely not as prevalent as the makers of commerical dandruff shampoos would have us believe. Most people who think that the white flakes they have are dandruff flakes are wrong; it is more likely dry scalp.

Great article, thank you very much for posting it laura lee.
I thought i had dandruff since starting cg, but it was really dry scalp.
do you recommend co washing more or less to battle this dryness?

I would recommend CO washing less, if you can get away with it. Although conditioner can be soothing to your scalp, like lotion can be for dry hands...you don't leave conditioner in the scalp. Conditioner should be rinsed off thoroughly to avoid build up issues. Many people leave some conditioner in their hair, but it should really only be on the length of the hair, not the scalp.
If you CO wash your hair less, it gives your natural oils a chance to start moisturizing your scalp.

So if you CO wash less, let's say twice a week can you wet your hair in between to style your curls? (My curls are just not the same after I've been sleeping on them all night and my hair is too short to pineapple)

Yes of course. You can either smooth water on, scrunch in water (I personally do this but I use product as well, a mix of half water half aloe), or get in the shower and water wash (same idea as cowashing, scrub scalp well, but without conditioner on the scalp. With water washing, you can use a conditioner on the length of the hair. If you water wash, you basically start over styling wise)

I can usually refresh with 50/50 aloe/water, too. I seldom have to actually water wash unless my hair's just really in messed-up, poorly-curling shape. The aloe water reactivates curls and product so that it often looks better than it did when first washed. I can go 2-4 days this way usually.

I went to school today, and my friend told me," I think you have dandruff." Then another friend said," Mabye it's because of that stupid CG hair diet you've been doing." (she has straight hair and was a bit grumpy today)
Anyway, the whole day I've been freaking out, and now I must thank Laura Lee. I found out it's dry scalp (no suprise considering how dry it is in Arizona right now.)
I think I'll try what you guys have said and co-wash less.

CurlayGirly, I moved out of NC for awhile and lived on the western slope of CO for 8 years, so understand about the dry climate. Everything is dried out, skin, hair, etc. For me, that was the hight of hair and skin issues. Try having a relaxer in that climate. With an average of 0.5% humidity and very little rain or snow, it was like a recipe for hair disaster.

Does anyone know which stores carry GTTT? I went on their website but they don't have their list of retailers up yet.

Also Ulta. And a lot of healthfood stores carry it, too.
You can also order larger bottles for a good price at www.massagewarehouse.com Some have said they've seen liter bottles at TJ Maxx and Marshall's but I haven't checked that out yet.

The dry climate is making my hair very sad these days. I can't wait until summer when I can see how my newly CG curls behave when there is more moisture.
Oh, and I love QVC! I watch it, and HSN constantly and my parents think I'm crazy! (They are not big shoppers)

...WOW. Thanks for that link! According to this description, I never had dandruff after all, it was dry scalp, which explains why it went away when I went CG. This is so ridiculous...dandruff shampoo companies don't even advertise the symptoms correctly, so over half the people who use their products are doing the exact opposite of what they should be doing for their scalp. So insane!

I know! The beauty industry these days has become all about keeping the customer coming back for more, not fixing the problems we have
