List of good/bad ingredients?

Is there a list of specific ingredients to avoid and/or a list of ingredients that "look bad" but are fine? I'm so confused with all the -ulfates and -ones. Thanks!

  • Stearyl dimethicone
  • Trimethylsilylamodimethicone
Slightly soluble (May cause buildup in hair but some have found will still wash out with cowash)
  • Amodimethicone
  • Cyclomethicone
  • Behenoxy dimethicone
  • Stearoxy dimethicone
“CG approved” Water Soluble (Will not buildup)
  • Dimethicone copolyol
  • Hydrolyzed wheat protein hydroxypropyl polysiloxane
  • Lauryl methicone copolyol
  • Silicones with PEG listed before it
Hard core CG followers will usually only buy products that do NOT contain any of these silicones and products with CG approved water soluble silicones. Modified CG followers will usually only buy products that do NOT contain any of these silicones, and products with slightly soluble silicones and CG approved water soluble silicones.

Those who are trying to go CG stay away from the not water soluble silicones.

Some harsh sulfates which are a no-no are Alkylbenzene sulfonate, Ammonium laureth or lauryl sulfate, Ammonium or Sodium Xylenesulfonate, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Sodium cocoyl sarcosinate, Sodium laureth, myreth, or lauryl sulfate, Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, TEA-dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Ethyl PEG-15 cocamine sulfate, and Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate.

Mild cleansers, which some modified CGers use once in a while when they feel they have build up, are Cocamidopropyl betaine, Coco betaine, Cocoamphoacetate, Cocoamphodipropionate, Disodium cocoamphodiacetate or cocoamphodipropionate, Lauroamphoacetate, and Sodium cocoyl isethionate.

Hope this helps.

I have been avoiding plastics (PVP/VA copolymer etc.) also lately; I get no "gunky" hair or scalp now and may help to prevent hair loss.

Heather0kay, is that how plastics are listed in the ingredients? PVP/VA copolymer

These ingredient lists make my head spin!
