I've been using Deva products for almost 2 years now. I read the Curly Girl book and really felt understood for the first time in my life. Since I grew up in the '70s where long straight hair ruled the day, I've been to countless stylists who tried to treat my hair as if it were straight. Also, since my skin tone is dark I've battled all types of biases from those who discriminate against people who look "different". I had been wearing my hair straight as a result of chemical processing but after reading Curly Girl and losing all my hair through several rounds of chemotherapy for breast cancer, I decided to embrace my natural curls. I am getting lots of compliments from friends who reaffirm my decision to go curly and tell me they really like my hair better curly than straight!
How has it changed your hair?
My hair is more manageable and has much less frizz. Since I have very tight curls, I've found the products help to enhance the natural curls and the Deva-trained stylists at the Frontenac Salon in St. Louis have also helped me by giving me a curly-girl cut when I've needed a trim. I love the products and while I'm not always in love with my hair...I'm learning to accept the curls and now am very selective as to what stylists I will use as well as the products that are used on my hair. I wish there were more Deva salons so I didn't have to travel so far to St. Louis (2 1/2 hours away) to receive the services. Thanks for helping us "curly girls" manage our hair!
