What did you learn from the Curly Girl Challenge?
I have struggled with my curls for 29 years and until I received "Curly Girl" from my sister did I realize I wasn't the only one struggling. I used to do whatever possible, like in my before picture, chemical straightening, flat ironing, brushing, etc. to not have to deal with my curls. I feel so bad for them now, having to stand me trying to get rid of them for so many years. I realize now that my hair wasn't acting up, it was simply trying to tell me something...it needed more moisture. I have been using DevaCurl for over a year now and have never looked back. It was the fake moisturizers and chemicals that were causing me grief. I scrunch happily now!
How has it changed your hair?
My hair is no longer frizzy looking and dull, my curls are bouncy, shiny and healthy looking now. Not only am I satisfied with my hair but, believe it or not, it has helped me accept and embrace the fact that my hair is different, it gives me an edge and I like that. I think my curls are part of my personality now, I don't shy away from poofy hair — instead I wear my curls proudly :)
