What did you learn from the Curly Girl Challenge?

That feeling comfortable in my own skin at this point in my life needed to start with making peace with my curly hair.
How has it changed your hair?
For 15 long years I was depending on people to help me deal with my hair.I damaged my hair so much by relaxing it, color it and hightlights plus alot of heat abuse, blow dry, flat iron and curly iron it on a daily basis. And most days my hair look perfect like if I had spent hours getting my hair done and it was my reality I was spending long hours on it. I remember times that I was unable to enjoy life, weather or even trips all because of been scared of a bad hair day. But one day I decided to wash my own hair while taking a shower, and I felt alive and at that moment I realize that the last time that I wash my own hair was more than 6 years ago. I visited my hair salon once a week for 6 long years, I even arranged my lifestyle around my hair, I was too afraid of seen my natural hair, or as I used to call it My Kinky hair. Now I feel like a new person I stop relaxing my hair 3 years ago, and I stop all behavior that was damaging my hair. I been reading new ways on how to easily style my own curls.I used to spent $40-$70 dollars on a weekly basis at the salon getting my hair chemically relaxed, wash, blow dry, color or cut and style. Now I visit the salon every 8 weeks for a trim and to even out my color and I spent no more than $50 dollars including a tip. I now buy excellent quality hair products about $ 180 dollars yearly that wont put a whole in my pocket. The best part of accepting my naturally curly hair is all the things that Im capable to do, I love going out to dance and my hair looks and stays looking fabulous before and after the night is over doesnt matter how much did I sweat, my hair stays frizz free even on high humidity climate like my hometown Orlando Florida. Well that's a bit of my story and the only thing that I regret is that it took me 15 years of pain and suffering to finally accept that my natural curls are my best asset they make me look younger and refresh effortless.
