Post BC

Loving my natural hair after almost 2 months post BC!  It is growing and has softened.  I mainly wear twist outs and coils/coil outs.  I do not do wash and go's because my hair needs some of it's natural oils to prevent lack of moisture.  I co-wash weekly, shampoo monthly, and deep condition twice a month.  I still rock my styles for about 5 days.  I'm a happy naptural!

Twist

It's been a little over 1 week since my BC and still happy with no regrets.  I do not wear a TWA much because it feels dry with the techniques and products I use.  I plan to buy glycerine for retaining moisture for my spritz mix even though my hair does feel much softer.  For now I wear a twist for about 2-5 days and then I wear a twistout for 5-7 days.  The reason is my hear does not feel dry on the twist or twist outs, I use less products, it's a protective style, and it is low manipulation.  I display more confidence with the new short hair and keep a more detailed hair journal.

I did the BC!!!

I BC'ed yesterday, April 19th!!!  It felt great and still feels great.  I have not ran into critics yet as I only did it last night, but I'm sure I'll have mixed reviews.  However, I will hold my head up high.  It is really different to have super short hair as mine has always been shoulder length or longer.  Although I set a date I was tired of the transition after 6 full months.  I had the urge at lunch break yesterday while looking in the mirror to BC and the itch in me increased and when I got home I chopped it all off.  I'll be glad when my curls will be defined and that I'll figure out a new routine and regimen to maintain the lack of mositure.  It was a fun journey and the short hair actually looks fine on my round face.  Last night I did a 2 strand twist so hopefully today it will have some curls pop when I take it out later.  Hopefully my struggle with moisture and definging curls won't be so bad.  I will embrace this NEW journey, enjoy my TWA, and have more fun with different styles and products.

Set date

I'm pleased at my new growth.  I'm in month 5 of transitioning.  My big chop date is May 27, 2010.  I am the type that sticks to her plans/goals when written out.  I would have BC'ed earlier but I accepted a new position and originally planned to BC around spring break since I would be off from work.  This date was chosen because it is the next holiday and will give me slightly more time to play/enjoy my new short cut.  It will be a full eight months of transition and is about a month from my birthday which should allow my hair to develop it's own curl pattern by then without the frustration of trying different products and techniques.

Hair Goals

So I'm still often thinking of my hair and thinking about my big chop in 2-4 months from now.  I do not know if I can wait that long. Why?  I want to rock a TWA.  Now my mindset may be different when I am approaching my BC, because I know I will be nervous.  I have about 2-3 inches of new growth depending on the location on my head.  I'm ready for a new start as this the past 12 days of the new year have been horrible for me for a multitude of reasons.  I'm maintaining and praying.

My hair goals:
1.  Style weekly only for low manipulation.  I wash now every 7-10 days due to the cold weather.  This means that I will hopefully only be manipulating my hair 4-6 times a month.
2.  Drink more water and more fruits and veggies.
3.  Alternate between co-wash and no-poo every 7-10 days. Deep condition with my hot oil treatment every co-wash.

I believe this prescription for myself will work for me.
