My First Twist Set!! (Well...first and second LOL)

Hi everyone! Sorry its been a while since I've updated but for about 3.5 months, I was rocking my genie locs/yarn braids...that I did myself and FABULOUSLY if I might add :-)...so I didn't really have much to update you guys on about my hair :(. But NOW! The braids are GONE and my curls are BACK! Even tho I do miss the braids, I can always re-do them whenever. But I was noticing that my hair was growing A LOT so I just had to take them out because I was curious as to how much growth I had accumulated. And honey...let me just tell you. I'm SO satisfied! Mainly because I'm finally at a length where I can at least ATTEMPT to style my hair. In the beginning, my TWA was so T that all I could do was wash and comb it out and wear it like that...and it was starting to frustrate me because I felt like my hair wasn't growing at ALL. But then a lot of my naturalista friends just told me to be patient and so I did and now, its HERE! So with that, a few days ago, I attempted my FIRST twist set! I used Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding (which was something I was debating on before I began, Curly Pudding or Meringue---but then I remembered a video tutorial on Miss Jessie's website of a twist out using Curly Pudding so I decided to go with that because I liked how it looked). And well....it was OK, but I knew I could have done better. They were just spaced out all over the place and chunky and...it just looked crazy LOL. So, since I'm in the hospital with nothing to do, I wore that for a day or two until I co-washed it and attempted again (also with MJ's Curly Pudding---which I am now out of LOL). This time I was much more neat with it. I started in the back (like I usually do with my braids) as opposed to the front like I did the first time. Well, the second set looks 100 times better! I haven't taken the twists out just yet because I'm STILL in the hospital (blah), but hopefully I'm going home tomorrow and then I can take them out and style them to my liking... I also wanna add that I tried MJ's Rapid Recovery Treatment for the first time in hopes that it would help out my dryness/shrinkage problem. O...M...G!! I freaking LOVE that stuff! I have the 2 oz. jar right now but as SOON as I get out of the hospital, I'm going to buy the big jar! Man my hair felt AMAZINGLY soft and my curls just POPPED. It was GREAT! In the meantime, my hair hasn't felt AS dry as usual but there is still a bit of shrinkage...so Im still researching to figure out what to do about that. I'm going to post pics of my first twist set and the twist out, and then pics of the 2nd twist set (no twist out). I'm also going to post a pic of my hair when I took the braids out and combed it out. Also, a bonus pic of my yarn braids ;-) Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And that's all folks!! WIN! Woe: Dryness

I've been natural for about a little under 3 months now. One major problem I've been having is, i think a very common problem, dryness... My routine usually consists of co-washing with...whatever conditioner I'm using at the moment, followed up with MJ Buttercreme, and then my "sheacoconut oil" (which is a mixture of shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, and EVOO). The moisture lasts for only a few hours, but once the night hits, my head feels like a brillo pad.. :-\ I don't know where I'm going wrong and I don't know what other products I could be using...I see SO many other suggestions from other naturalistas but I either can't find some of these products, or the products just don't work for me. That, and I don't want to use too many products on my hair at once because I want my hair to be able to get used to something, and I don't want it all to fall out LOL... any suggestions??? |
