I first tried to go natural this summer, 2009, during my research internship, but I really didn't do any research into what steps you should take when transitioning such as the type of products to use, or types of styles that can be worn. So between the 2nd and 3rd month my 1st transition, I was having a terrible time with the "new growth." See I was attempting to do the same routine I used when my hair was relaxed. During the time that my hair was relaxed I normally washed, deep condition, wrapped my hair wet, went to sleep, woke up early and then flat iron my hair. I did this routine once a week. However, during my transition, it became more and more difficult to wrap my hair. Particularly, the crown of my hair would never lay down and thus air dry it this nappy mess and I couldn't put a comb through it. Then there was time for senior pictures and I thought to myself I want to look really nice on this pictures, and thereby deciding to go back to the crack. I was so anger at myself for giving in, and decide to retry this transitioning thing but educated myself on how to transition as easily as possible. Thanks to numerous sites like www.maneandchic.com, www.curlynikki.com, www.nappturality.com, motowngirl.com and of course youtube, I have learned the necessary steps that would cause my transition to go as smooth as possible. Now I am only 2 months into this transition, so right now it is fairly easy but I am worried about the third month, because it was during that time when I relapsed. I have yet to find a hair care routine that I am love with and I am currently co-washing twice a week and deep conditioning once a week. I have cut back on using shampoo. My current transitioning style is roller set with flex rods. Normally, I co-wash and deep conditioning on Sunday and then use some styling gel and rod my hair, let my hair dry over night and take them out in the morning. Then I repeat this on Thursday night without the deep conditioning step. I have been doing this for almost three weeks and probably continue doing it until December and then try something new for that particular month. Anyway, wish me well my hair journey and I'll keep you all update on the ups and downs of this roller-coaster we call life. Much Love, Me~Me. |
