I finally did my first twist out!!!!

I finally did my first twist out yesterday and I am super excited about it! First I shampooed (Aussie Moist shampoo), conditioned (Aussie Moist conditioner), and did a deep treatment (Avanta Silicon Mix) on my hair. Once I was done with the washing process, I used my Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Nectar as a leave-in conditioner. I sectioned my hair into 3 parts, 2 in the front and 1 in the back, and I combed out the back section with a large tooth comb. After I detangled that section, I used some Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding on that section and started at the nape of my neck doing two strand twists and working my way up until I was done with that section. I followed the same steps, detangling and applying curly pudding, to the front two sections of my hair. Once i was done, (twisting may have taken no more than 10 mins, 15 mins tops!), I sat under a hooded dryer for an hour to let my hair dry. I thought my hair was completely dry but it wasn't when I started to undo the twist, my hair was still damp. I sat back under the dryer to dry the my hair completely. I can pretty much guarantee that my twist out would have been better had I probably sat under the dryer a little longer and probably left them in all day and taken them down today. But I was very happy with the twist out because it gave me length, volume, and definition without diffusing and stretching. I think this is going to be a great protective still for me. Check out the pics to see my twist out. *WARNING* the following pics aren't pretty lol! They are for educational and visual purposes only (I did the best I could twisting my hair myself)!!!! P.S. The pics of my actual twists are right before It ook them out after I sat under the dryer. I have to thank the curly pudding and hair nectar for the shine and softness it gave my hair. ![]() ![]() |

LOL I have ADD. I just decided that since I own a camera, the one I'm holding in my profile pic, I am going to start posting pics of my hair after I use the different products I own (I am a product junky even though I have found what works for me but I will save that blog for later). |
Finally a description of my hair routine!

Since I did my BC in January, I have now, in July (lol), finally gotten day a daily/weekly hair maintence routine. First, I only shampoo my hair once a week because i do not have a sulfate free shampoo. So after I shampoo my hair, I either use regular conditioner and then do a DT using the Avanta Silicon Mix conditioner. Honestly, I have no issues with this conditioner as of yet and I have been using it since March or April once a week. But if I'm doing a protein treatment, I shampoo, DT, then condition since the protein treatment can dry my hair out sometimes. Next, after I cleansed my hair, I apply the Kinky-Curly's Knot Today or Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Nectar as a leave in. I make sure I apply an ample amount starting in the back of my head and then working it down to the ends and I just keep moving forward until I've worked the leave in thru my hair. After that, I usually use the Kinky Curly Curling Custard or Jane Carter Solution Condition and Sculpt (I get way better results with the KCCC but I paid for the Condition and Sculpt and only use it on days when I'm feeling like " BLAH" lol). I section my hair into 3 parts, 2 in the front and 1 in the back. I start with the back and then work the product thru my hair making sure I twist it to make sure I distrubute the product evenly. I then move onto 1 of the sections in the front. Now once I've gotten to this section I take it out the clip and I take my finger and divide that section and work the product in like I previously did in the back of my head. I do the same to the other section that's also in the front. From that point, if I have the time, I'll let my hair dry for about an 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours and then I take my blowdryer on a high setting and low heat with my diffuser and dry the rest (O yeah, btw, redken has a really nice hair serum that's a heat protectant...Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide) I just dry small sections at a time for about 30-45 seconds. I move the blow dryer around my head until its about 85-90% dry. Once I'm down with the diffuser, I attach my concentration nozzle and stretch my curls. I learned how to do this by watching Taren916's video channel on youtube (she is a lovely lady with great tips/ideas for naturally curly hair). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klU9RV4gkt0 (this link is for a stretching tutorial). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcbURgM6ukw (this link is for a diffusion tutorial). As far as cowashes go, If I feel the need for a cowash then I do one using my Suave's humectant conditioner, but I usually can get 3-4 day hair using the KCCC; but the condition and sculpt routine usually lasts about 2 days then its co wash time. If anyone reads this, I hope it helps. I plan on doing my first twist out this week, so I will be posting pics out the output. I will also be posting pics of my KCCC hair. Thanks for reading! |

I can't believe it has been about 5 months since I did the BC. My hair is looking so nice and healthy and it has grown so much. I am always trying some type of product so I guess now you can consider me a "product junkie." Also, I have a nice lil regimen down and I will definately be posting that and some new pics in the near future. Well I have to go! |
I "HEART" being natural!

I was working out the other day and I came to the realization that I am working out more because my hair is natural. The reason why I'm working out more is because I'm not all worried about "OMG I'm gonna sweat out my hair..." So now, since it's just a cute-n-curly mess on my head I can sweat as much as I want and nothing bad will happen; no anxiety or panic attacks about sweating out my straight hair. Honestly the anxiety was heightened while I was still in the transitioning stage because I hate wearing ponytails because I look 12 when I do and I would hate trying to figure out what to do with my hair before work. I was packing on the pounds (like around 2-5 over a year) and I was miserable. Since I've gone natural, I work out everyday. I feel better about myself because I know I am doing something good for my body (inside and out) as well as my hair. Its been about 2 months since I did the big chop and I think I'm down 5lbs since then. So now I am well on my way to reaching my goal weight. The point of this blog is when you feel good on the outside, you want the inside to match. I feel amazing on the outside and I want the same good vibes going for my health. Hopefully 6 months from now I will be my goal weight and dress size, with gorgeous hair to match ;-) |
