ISN'T THIS TEXAS WEATHER CRAZY?!? It seems like most of my blogs include some dramatic shift in the weather down here. I definitely covered my hair in a beanie today. I don't care if i looked like a 12 year old boy! At least my hair is still soft :)
I've been doing well, just going through school n' the like. I haven't been styling my hair that often (just wash n' go!). Mostly because (1) I don't have the time (2) I wash it out after a day or two anyway.
I tried the baking soda conditioner several times after my video, and in conjunction with Herbal Essences' Long Term Relationship (it's got satin!) my curls feel really SMOOTH and silky, even AFTER rinsing the mixture out. It really cut down on the breakage i had, not to mention i'm also using Neutrogena Triple Moisture...the protein builder one. I'm also working on not touching/pulling my hair as much - making those coils <
FINAL VERDICT: Baking soda wasn't so revolutionary on the first try for me, but don't knock anything till you've tried it 3x. I'll be doing this regularly! But i really feel the success is because of the COMBO of those 3 products (baking soda, herbal essences, triple moisture).
But i DID do a twist out for the FIRST TIME IN 3 WEEKS, y'all! Here's how it came out:
Ya like it?
Also, here's my regimen so far. I've been natural for a month and a few days :)
1.) Divide dry hair into 5-6 puffs/sections (secure with pony tail holders or clips)
2.) Saturate with water in those sections, apply/wash/rinse MISS JESSIE'S CREME DE LA CURL CLEANSING CREME.
3.) Add Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship to hair, one section at a time, detangling with a wide tooth comb one section at a time as well. After detangling, twist that section.
4.) Apply Neutrogena triple moisture to the ends (mostly) and rub through hair. Only leave on for 1-3 minutes.
5.) Rinse EVERYTHING out.
6.) Tshirt dry hair.
7.) Add shea butter mixed with a couple drops of ANY anti-frizz serum to each section/puff. Rub on the ends especially. HAIR SHOULD BE FLUFFY, BUT STILL CURL DEFINED.
8.) Add a clip/headband/etc or just WALK OUT THE DOOR!
Watch my video about my regimen if you want! It's on the homepage of the Grow Out Challenge.
What's YOUR regimen? Let me know :)

I'VE BEEN NATURAL FOR ONE MONTH!!!! WELL...TOMORROW ANYWAY.|
WOO! THIS MONTH HAS JUST FLOWN BY. AND I'M EXCITED FOR WHAT'S IN STORE.
I'M STILL WORKING ON TECHNIQUES, PRODUCTS, REGIMENS, ETC. BUT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE BEING NATURAL. SHORT HAIR RULES! I DON'T MISS BRAIDS, TWISTS, LONG STRAIGHT HAIR! Nothing's wrong with those styles (i mean, i looked cute DUH) but i'm glad i decided to take back to my roots. Literally, no more touch ups etc...JUST LET THE STUFF GROW! And people are telling me it has...
I haven't been "styling" my hair per se. No twist outs, braid outs, etc...that's too much work and it's cold outside. I just wear my hair small and "shrunken". Works for me.
CHECK OUT MY BAKING SODA DEEP CONDITIONER VIDEO! IT'S ON THE HOMEPAGE OF THE GROW OUT CHALLENGE! THANKS!
happy hair growing,

I've been natural for one week y'all!!!|
I did my big chop on January 17 2010, so technically it's been about 9 days. I'M SO THRILLED. Everything about my natural hair (even the difficult stuff i haven't figured out yet) excites and interests me. Watching it stretch, then coil back up again. Twisting it, then undoing the twists. It's been an interesting 9 days.
THE GOOD: It's extremely easy to style (at this length) I wake up, spritz some water in it, add a bit of Cantu Shea Butter or Castor Oil (or both) and VOILA. i'm out the door. I've only done a proper twist out once, but one other time, i did HUGE sloppy twists just to stretch my hair out a little bit. I'm trying to not get in the habit of "wanting to stretch my hair out" because i really want to learn to love my hair the way it is: SMALL WHEN WET. hahaha. The other 7 days, I wore it shrunken. My friend Timi (see my FIRST POST) said she hates the word "shrinkage"---> she said we should call it maximum curl. Sounds more positive :)
THE BAD: I have no idea how to wash this AND save water at the same time. I spent 30 minutes in the shower on Saturday when i washed it. And that was WITH my hair IN SECTIONS (5 afro puffs). I worked as fast as i could knowing that THIS ISN'T MY PERSONAL SHOWER (college kids, raise your hands), but still...i had the technique down, i guess i'm just finding out that the technique is time consuming...but necessary. so i'm stuck. No big deal though. I WAS MY HAIR (Miss Jessie's Creme de la Curl Cleansing Cream for now) ONCE EVERY WEEK. Usually saturday mornings after i go to the gym.
ONE WEEK DOWN. But i'm so grateful it's not a countdown anymore (like during my transition) NOW IT'S MILESTONES! I'll be back with a "thoughts" post in 2 months.
Happy Hair Growing,
P.S. CHECK OUT THE VLOG THAT GOES WITH THIS POST ON THE HOME PAGE OF THE GROW OUT CHALLENGE! :)
