Itching to CHOP
posted on Oct 24, 2009 by ljkelly
I have never been so ready to BC during this whole journey until now. I am literally counting down the days until I am completely natural (exactly 60 days). I feel my hair just isn't as fierce with these relaxed ends--they are weighing me down and holding me back for my true potential! Whenever I do a Curly Nikki Twist-n-Curl (which basically the ONLY style I do now) it looks good for the first 3 hours in the day and then my ends just straighten out and it looks like a HOT MESS. I have photo evidence--LOL!![]() ![]() ![]() You can't even tell I did a Twist-n-Curl, it just looks messy (& I have the nerve to be smiling and posing in these pics! Shame on me! LOL!) I know you are saying, why in the heck won't you just big chop already? What is the difference in 2 months--ahem, 60 days? Not much really and it is not even about length anymore...let me explain. I feel like this whole journey has taught me so many lessons but one of the biggest lessons I feel that I am learning is PATIENCE. I will be the first to admit, I do not have patience--at all. I eat food before it is ready, I leave relationships before they are ready, I move, I quit, I arrive, I say things all prematurely because I just cannot wait for ANYTHING. When I set the date to BC on my birthday, I just thought it was a random time line but as it got closer and with my patience running thin I began to believe that this could be a chance to put my patience to the test. The best way to gain patience is to wait...and we wait. Does anyone have any suggestions, as I come to the end of this transition, to keep a curl on my relaxed, dull ends? I would be forever grateful! :) XOXOX, LJ |
First Post: The Journey

I am currently transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair. I got
my first relaxer when I was 9 years old so I am not sure what my
natural texture is so it is very exciting to discover new things about
my hair! This has truly been a journey for me. I decided to stop getting relaxers (my last was July 9, 2008) because I wanted my hair to be in the healthiest state possible. I found Healthy Textures website where I learned about co-washing and unhealthy hair products and threw out anything with "bad ingredients" (which was A LOT)! In my “cabinet cleaning exercise” I began to think about the damaging ingredients in relaxer. I thought about stretching my relaxers to just 4 times a year but that still did not solve the problem so in August 2009 I decided that I would stop getting relaxers but still straighten my hair with flat irons. Soon after I decided to stop relaxing, Healthy Textures format changed so I was forced to search for other knowledge of healthy hair on the internet and I found tons of natural hair blogs that began to change how I viewed my hair. I would look at maneandchic.com, curlynikki.com, texturedplayground.com and honeybrownsugar.com (to name a few) and I began to rethink my ideas on natural hair and I decided that I would embrace my natural curl! Now I am a fast approaching 1 year without a relaxer and I am excited to see my natural hair. I am planning on doing my BC on Dec. 23, 2009 (my 27th birthday) which would give me 17 months of transitioning and hopefully a lot of growth to work with! Please follow me on my journey and leave any comments or suggestions that you may have!
