Hi! Well I finally made the decision to go natural a couple of months ago. A lot of days I don't know what I am doing, but I sticking with it. I got my last relaxer May 22, 2009. Usually I would get one every couple of months and I had been thinking about stopping for a while. I was reading a lot of blogs and met a couple of people that were all natural and I LOVED their hair. I was like wow, I wished my hair was like that. I could just wash & go! So after leaving my longtime stylist, I got my first weave for a month and I hated it! I missed MY hair. So I went to a new stylist and she seemed very knowledgeable about hair and asked have I ever consider going natural. I said I was actually thinking about it, can you tell me some more about it. She was like basically stop getting relaxers and that is it. Seemed simple enough, so I was going to her every two weeks still getting it blow dried and flat iron straight. I really didn't feel comfortable with her, so I decided hey I am going to do this myself. So after reading a couple of blogs I attempted to do a twist out in September 09. I think it went ok the first couple of times. I had curls. Now, I am the girl that can not do her hair on her own. It just never looked right to me, but I was getting compliments on my hair. I was like hey I did something right maybe. But after a couple of weeks, I missed my hair being straight. I'm thinking to myself am I made to go through this? I had some thoughts, so I went back to the salon to get it straighten. My new stylist is very knowledgeable with my hair and did not attempt to talk me out of going natural. He was like I am going to work with your hair and get it to the way you want it. So once again for about a month I have been getting it straighten. Then out comes the Essence magazine article talking about natural hair and giving it tips. The tip that stood out the most to me was even though I am not getting relaxers I could be messing up the natural curl by continuing to get it blow dried & flat iron straight. So here I am on a Friday night, about to go wash my hair myself and attempt to do bantu knots. So like I said, I not for sure I am going about this right, but I am in it for the long haul.I am not going to give up. I want my hair healthy. I miss it being thick and long. So I get back to you all in a couple of hours and upload a picture of how it looks and then in the morning when I take the knots out. :) Any advice or products that anyone recommends I would greatly appreciate the help!
