Titi's Prescriptions for October's Winning Bloggers

Prescription: Your blog is one that so many women can relate to. How many of us have avoided exercising or doing anything vigorous that would cause us to sweat out our hair? For many of us, our preoccupation with our hair has caused us to avoid physical activity such as dancing, swimming or working out.

You seem to be embracing and just going with the flow of it. You're not stressing because your hair doesn’t look its optimal best. Part of going natural is having the ability to have self-control, acceptance and patience: all things that you have seemed to master.

Your question about fighting dryness is all too common. Miss Jessie's products are perfect for you. Shampoo with Crème de la Curl Cleansing Crème. It's a non-sulfate cleanser that uses castor oil to do its cleansing. Follow up with Crème de la Crème Conditioner. Deep condition and soften your hair with Rapid Recovery. You will be amazed at how well this product fights dryness. Instead of rinsing it all out, leave a trace amount behind as a base for your styling product. You can then use Curly Buttercreme or Baby Buttercreme as your moisturizing styling product. Apply a tablespoon to damp hair. At your current length, you should not worry about shrinkage. Instead, focus on curl definition and softness, which can be achieved with Stretch Silkening Crème and/or Buttercreme.

Not everyone can go short and look as beautiful as you do!! Good luck!

Prescription: Your blog was informative — chock fill of info. I like the fact that you did a video documentary of your big chop! How brave you are. I know that you have inspired many women during this Grow-Out Challenge to get rid of their relaxers and embrace their natural selves.

As far as a prescription goes, I think you're right on point. You understand that going natural is not only about a look but also about having healthy, soft hair. You have a beautiful face and you can have some more versatility with your hair even at your length. My suggestion would be wash your hair with a moisture-rich cleansing cream like Miss Jessie's Crème de la Curl and then condition with Crème de la Crème. Deep condition with Rapid Recovery Treatment; it’s a wonderful treatment that will enhance shine and seal your cuticle, making it ready to accept product. For styling I would recommend Baby Buttercreme or Curly Buttercreme for their moisture-retaining properties. Apply a tablespoon or two to freshly deep-conditioned hair and take small sections and coil it. You can coil your entire head and sit under a hair dryer until it’s fully dried. After it’s dried, "uncoil" each section. This process should deliver an enhanced, soft curl.

Prescription: I was touched by your blog and reminded of all the curly girls that come to our salon with some sort of traumatic experience they had at other. We've all been there and experienced that moment of truth when were sitting in that chair waiting for our curls to come back to us only to realize the our curls would never be the same. I don't blame your mom. She only wanted what she thought was best for you but just didn't know any better. You’ve survived it and are now in a great naturally curly state. And boy did you have a great story to share!!!

From the looks of it, your hair is beautiful now. To keep it looking that way, it's important to moisturize and not let your curls dry out. Keep them drenched with moisture-loving products such as Crème de la Curl Cleansing Crème, Crème de la Crème Conditioner, Rapid Recovery Deep Conditioning Treatment. For styling, I know you are a fan of Curly Pudding, and it works great on you. How about switching it up sometime and trying the Curly Meringue for a coil-out?

Your hair is a result of your many trials and tribulations with trying to be pleasing to people other than yourself. Now that you’ve got that in order its great to see you embrace yourself and your beautiful curls. I am proud of you!

Prescription: Miss Kelly! Patience is a virtue. I am counting down the days until Dec 23, 2009 when you go ahead and get rid of those relaxed ends. It's the only thing that's holding you back, because you have had the patience to grow your hair out and discover that you have a truly beautiful texture.

My best advice is to do a twist-out with Curly Meringue or Quick Curls and simply place a perm rod on the ends to ensure the ends curl up. You have to do your twist set and dry it fully under a dryer before you can take the twists out. And at night you must re-twist your hair to preserve the styling and place those perm rods on the ends to keep the curls going on relaxed hair. This is virtually the only way for you to ensure that your relaxed ends get curly and stay curly. It’s a bit of work, one that involves patience until that fateful day comes around that you get rid of those ends. You must deep condition and it’s all about moisturizing. You don’t want to allow breakage at the line of demarcation where your relaxer and natural hair meet to mess up the patience that you’ve displayed until this point. Cleanse with Miss Jessie’s Crème de la Curl, condition with Crème de la Crème and deep condition with Rapid Recovery. This will preserve your natural texture and keep your hair softly moisturized. As for styling, I like Curly Meringue or Quick Curls for your twist sets. They will help you to hold the curl in place. Moisturize daily with any one of our Buttercremes .
