I am working on transitioning my hair, looking for any helpful tips
I havent had a relaxer in 2 years and I don't know my hair type. I want to avoid doing the "big chop" and looking for ways to make my hair grow healthy

well tip #1 is that if you do transition , remember to at least get your ends trimmed. To keep your hair healthy , you must get trims.
While hair does grow from your scalp, your relaxed ends could make your hair begin to split up the hair shaft , making your hair not grow any longer.
Also remember not to transition for too long because your 2 textures of hair will not match up.
If you do keep your transitioned ends for too long , your hair will begin to break off because your 2 textures do not go togetherand your ends are way weaker then your new growth.it happened to me unfortunately .You can tradition for atleast 1 year but after that , try cutting off the transitioned ends. We don't want your hair to break off !
To prevent your hair from breaking off, you can do twist outs or braid outs or Bantu knots so both textures of your hair are the same .
You said you want to avoid doing the big chop, and while it is the healthier suggestion for your hair , you only have to do a " big chop" if majority of your ends are straight from the relaxer.
Remember to always have your curls moisturized. Moisturizes hair is happy hair . Invest in a really nice leave in conditioner , those are great for keeping moisture. I use shea moistures restorative conditioner because you can use it as a leave in conditioner and it leaves my hair feeling really nice . Also make sure you get a natural oil ( like coconut oil ) to seal in the moisture .
When you go natural , a lot of people rave about "co washing"
You can co wash , but remember to actually shampoo your hair ! If you don't wash your hair, your scalp can get clogged up with products and it won't make your hair grow . I would suggest washing your hair once a week or once every 2 weeks , you can co wash ever 2 days or so .
Also you have a silk bonnet or atleast a silk pillowcase for your hair at night so your hair won't break off .
Remember to drink a lot of water !
If you would like to take a supplement to promote healthy hair , I would suggest taking biotin.
If there is one thing you need to do , it is deep condition. Go out and buy a nice deep conditioning treatment or mask and use it once every week or once every 2 weeks. Deep conditioning should be one of your best friends when going natural .
Lastly , have fun with your hair and love it .
Try out products and see which one works best for you !
