Pao has been styling my curls for over 2 years and I could not be happier. I have never found someone that is so patient and caring about my hair. Pao's Deva expertise is her secret weapon and I would highly recommend anyone with curly hair to sit in Pao's chair. Not only do I leave the salon with a great cut every time, but the rest of the staff is kind and I often feel like we've been friends for years.
I found this salon thru the naturallycurly.com website and all i can say is WOW!!!! Love Pao and how she cut my hair. i went from long 3b hairnto a short style and she helped me look younger. Its been 2 weeks and i still love my haircut and the deva products. Thanks Devacut!! And most of all, thank you, Pao! Corrie B.
I was very cautious and anxious about going somewhere new and to someone whom I had never met, but after my appointment with her, I now realize I had no reason for concern! She did a wonderful job, took her time, and cut each curl individually so my hair is even and the curls lay nicely. She also taught me how to style my hair the way I want, not big! I love the Devacurl products too. Now, my hair always looks great, even after I take a nap or on a very humid day! It's amazing what a great cut can do for your hair. Cannot wait to go back!
I have been a Curly Girl method fan for nearly a year now. I found a salon that was an hour away and that stylist was excellent too. But I decided to find a place closer to home, yet one that knows how to cut and style curly hair, using Deva Curl hair products as well as do a good job of hair color using Goldwell coloring products. Mod a Salon is just the place. Pao showed me some things I was doing wrong that was dragging my curls down and losing the curl during the day. For one thing, I was using a 'hair pick', but she showed me why that was not what to do. It was actually taking the curl out of the ends. She showed me just how to cup and curl my fingers and place them down into the hair on to the scalp and by massaging in a certain way it would revive and 'lift' the curls. What a difference this has made. She did a marvelous job of shaping the style, cutting each curl (dry hair) one curl at a time. Result was a much perkier look for my semi-short hair do. She washed my hair using Deva's No-Poo. I had been using Deva Low-Poo, and purchased before leaving the Deva No-Poo as it will not weigh the curls down so much here in the wintertime. She used paper towels to dry my hair before applying the gel,Deva's AnGel. Again after applying this she gently blotted away any excess gel using paper towels. She recommended the paper towels or a cotton t-shirt, as it has a smooth finish to the fabric and will not be abrasive on the curls causing frizz. I was not using the hair clips to achieve crown height. I had tried but it just didn't seem that I was getting any results. I was not using enough clips either; she put lots of clips into the crown. She took time to show me exactly how to do this, and even had me put some clips in to make sure I knew just how to do it. She showed me how clips can disguise my cowlick on the back of my crown too. I really appreciated her time she spent with me with all these educational tips that makes my curly hairdo look fab! When she dried it she held a blow dryer with a diffuser about 2-3 inches away from the hair. She didn't insert it into the hair but just gently dried it using this hovering technique. Result was that the curls did not frizz at all or be disturbed. The height attained was great; so much more than I had before! Oh, and I had my hair colored too and it is beautiful and sooo shiny. I have fine hair and not real tight ringlets, but now, with the way she gave a good shaping, the curls are much more defined. I love how the curls frame my face. Pao, definitely knows her Cury Girl method, having gone to Devachon in NYC for instructions, and has had several years experience cutting and styling curly hair. I very highly recommend her. Mod a Salon is reasonably priced too for the special treatment a curly girl requires.
I had my hair cut by Jen 4 days ago. She gave me the best cut I have every had. I have very curly hair and a lot of it!! She is the only stylist that actually gave me a style. Usually I get my hair cut and end up wearing it up in a ponytail because I cannot control it. This is the first time I have been able to wear my hair down and it looks super cute. I am new to Ohio and have been getting my hair cut and relaxed at Bessay salon where they ruined my hair!!! Stay away from Kim at Bessay!! If you have curly hair go to Jen. She also spent a lot of time with me showing me how to style my hair and the best products for my curls.
Jen is an amazing stylist! I first started going to her about a year and a half ago when she was at Beauty Lounge. I (along with everyone else) followed her to Mod Salon. Jen cuts curly hair dry, as good as any stylist at Devachan in NYC. I was in NYC for 8 years and can vouch that she is just as good, if not better. I so completely trust her that I usually just let her do her thing. When I have given her specific instructions, my hair turns out exactly as I ask. I love what she does with both color and the pintura highlights. She keeps my color looking very natural. On top of being a great stylist, Jen is just a great person, really caring and super sweet. I highly recommend her!
I found Pao about a year ago on this site. I followed her to Mod a Salon from another salon. I love the location of Mod a Salon as it has easy parking. The prices are very reasonable, especially for such a great cut! I love the DevaCurl cut and my hair has never looked better. I highly recommend giving Pao a try. FYI: If you want a Devacurl cut, you need to come in for the visit with your hair styled naturally as she performs the cut along your natural curl so it lays well. The cut and Pao are definitely worth a try!
I saw Jen for the first time yesterday (based on a review from this site). She was great! This is the second time that I've had my hair cut dry and I am thrilled with the results. She really seems to get curly hair. My hair is now cut so that the shape is flattering and all of those knots at the end are now gone.
I went to Jen mostly because I read of the experience that she has with curly hair. I have naturally curly hair and have never gotten a dry cut and have just recently been using DevaCurl. Jen really knows what she is doing and right when I walked in to the (very cute) salon I was instantly relieved. I could tell she knew exactly what to do to fix my hair. I am growing my hair out and she trimmed it and put layers in my hair that shaped my face nicely. I don't trust too many people with my hair and I was very nervous letting someone do my hair based on these online reviews, but after my hair was totally transformed I was sooo happy! She gave me a lot of tips on my hair as well. I recommend her to do your hair, especially if you live in the area.
Jen used to work out of The Beauty Lounge in downtown Akron, but recently moved to Mod A Salon in Akron. I had a root touch-up and highlights done on this visit and I am more than happy with the results! I also took my curly son for a cut and his hair looks great! He was also very pleased with the results :) As with MY 1st appt with Jen, she paid just as much time and attention to my son's individual curl needs which was a delight to a very particular 15 year old boy! On a side note - Jen said that all her appts. today were with curlies. I highly recommend Jen for all the curlies in the area that don't already go to her! Feel free to e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. See my previous rec for Jen at The Beauty Lounge in Akron, Ohio for more info!
