I have been straightening my hair for over 15 years. I have finally gotten to the point where I wanted to wear it natural and try to make it healthy again. I never really liked my hair natural because I felt it had a funky wave, wavier in some places and straighter in others. I went to Marni because of all the fabulous reviews she's gotten on this site. The most influential review was from someone with the same hair type as me (2A). I was truly nervous to go in, not knowing if I would even know how to style my hair naturally. Marni was FABULOUS!!! She showed me the products she was using, told me how she was using them and helped me with a list so I could get the right products for my hair. I walked out of the salon so much happier than I thought I would. Marni is such a great stylist in helping with tips and any questions I had. I can't wait to see how I can style my hair and hope to make it look as great as Marni made. If you have wavy/curly hair...Marni is your girl!!
I've been going to Marni for a few years now, she has taught me how to love my curls! I can actually wear it down after all these years. I just love how she did my highlights recently. She is a very sweet caring person and her staff as well, I will contunue going to her for a long time.
Marni is great!!! I have had 3 cuts with her, about every 4 months, and each time i leave, i'm happy. The shape is consistent and she was so chill about products. She told me what she used on my hair and to see how it held up..If I wanted to come back and get the curlkeeper, i could, but if not, try using my products with the method she used. (i bought it anyway!) She's so nice and it's so cool that she prefers to only do curly hair!
Thank you so much Marni!! I looooove my haircut! It's been about a month and everything is still working like it should! I love the "puzzle" layers-- it all makes sense! You are the best! I'm telling everyone I know with curls to go see you!
Marni is amazing! She listens, she cares and she's there to give a great haircut to those of us who are tired of stylists who treat curly hair like its straight! Even if you read bad reviews of her on here, skip them and read the good ones! The negative statements here are from those who either expect miracles or get mad cuz she got sick! Marni is great, my curls are happy and they get treated with respect! THANK YOU MARNI!
I wasn't going to return after my last visit; howver, I could not find a hair stylist who really wanted to trim my deva cut without cutting very short. It was almost a repeat of the last time, with Marni just returning after being off sick. I found it hard to get an appointment and she just seemed disinterested in cutting my hair. This time I asked that the long "rat tail" be cut off or blended, as I had the front about jaw length and the back to my bra strap. Again, I got very thinned ends which end up frizzing and looking scraggly. Has anyone had success with getting a "normal" cut following a deva cut? What I mean is, they usually cut hair at an angle, and my hair was cut horizontally in places, with pieces of varying lengths all over the front and sides, and all one-length hair in the back?
"...So sorry I got sick. So sorry u felt u had to post a bad review because I got sick. So sorry you've loved what I did for your hair and still felt the need to hurt my reputation. Take care...." SERIOUSLY??? I received this as a PM from Marni after I posted an opinion. Just be aware that she is on this website and will contact you. IMO, that's not professional. A professional would realize that this is one person's opinion, let it go, and walk with her head still held high. Scary.
After giving Marni a raving review in the past, I can't any longer. I was driving a distance for cuts which is fine if the cuts are worth it, but shortly before I left home for my road trip this last time, the salon called me to tell me Marni was sick and wasn't in. Appointment cancelled. This was the SECOND time this happened. If she worked more than a couple of days a week, I may suck it up and reschedule, but she doesn't and it becomes a hassle. I've moved on.
I had enjoyed a really brilliant haircut at a different salon that I loved but thought based on the majority of good reviews I would try someone new and decided on Marni when I needed my next cut ( I get a cut once a year and trim ends myself in between). She was nice but the cut wasn't that great. I regretted my cut more after I had washed it and styled it later on my own. However, I did get a discount for mentioning I heard about her on this website (good for first time customer only). I have happily returned to my former salon and recently just got another great cut! Though I enjoyed Marni as a person, I hated the cut and won't be returning.
I was hesitant to spend so much money on a haircut because I've been pretty unhappy with my hair and it didn't even cross my mind that a haircut could solve my issues. Long story short, it totally did. The haircut, advice, tips/pointers, and product that Marni gave me is the best salon experience I've ever had. I saw her a week ago and my hair has looked amazing every single day since. While she was working I was feeling doubtful, she inspected my hair, asked some questions, and since my hair is long and was hanging over the back of the chair, actually got down on her knees on the floor to cut it. The cut only took her 5-10 minutes and I thought, oh man, she didn't even do anything, I'm going to pay someone $60 for something I could have done at home. I was so wrong. Marni took me to wash my hair, talked to me about what kind of shampoo to use (she used one kind, took a look at my hair, decided she didn't like it, and washed again using a different one), taught me how to use products, clips, a non-terrycloth towel, etc., and then air-dried my hair under the drier. I loved that she listened to me when I said that I am not willing to spend more than 5 minutes on my hair. When she took me back to the mirror and showed me how to take out the clips and shake my hair out, I couldn't believe it. My hair looked totally gorgeous and it has every single day since. I can't stop looking at myself in the mirror. I've taken a picture of it every day to make sure I'm not just imagining that it looks good. I thought Marni was friendly but not super talky, which I appreciated. She let me know what products she was using and why, but didn't push me to buy them. I had no clue how to care for my 2A hair and she showed me all the way from how many times a week to wash to the finishing touches. Yes, she was expensive at $60 plus a 20% tip, but I will gladly pay that every 4-6 months for beautiful hair than pay $20 every 6 weeks for hair that I hate.
I had been straightening my hair using the Yuko straightening system for several years. After going a year without straightening, I decided to let my hair hair dry and see what kind of curl I had. At first I had a small amount of wave, and after several months, my curl began to come back. I decided to go to Marni after everyone I knew who had curly hair had been to her and had been thrilled with the outcome. I have now had my hair cut several times by Marni, and my hair just keeps getting better and better! In the past I thought that straight hair was the be all and end all....and that curly hair would never look good. Now I get compliments all the time on my shiny, no frizz, stylish curly hair. My hair looks even better after several days of not washing it! Marni has taught me how to use a combination of curl keeper and curly hair solutions gel, and now I can proudly say that I will NEVER GO BACK TO STRAIGHT HAIR AGAIN!
I have had two cuts with Marni, and my experiences were not at all like the last two reviewers. It took two-three weeks to get an appointment; the cost was $60.00 plus 20% tip; I did not get much information on how to care for my specific hair type or which products to use. I was not asked what my hair care regime was, and only one product was recommended for purchase. I think she was sick the second visit, so I have to give her a break on that. My hair was horizontally layered on one side only-with a side bang. Longer, fewer layers on the other. The bottom layers looked as though they were cut with thinning shears, and the nape was undercut. there are some choppy layer scattered about (long, short, long, short). i just don't get it! When I made the appointments and before the cuts, I mentioned that I sometimes wear my hair up, blow dry, twist into looser curls/waves, etc. i cannot do that now. It kind of looks like someone just went around chopping a few pieces here and there. And my split ends are still here on the pieces not cut. I am very disappointed, which is why I gave the salon a second chance. I tried calling back several times to maybe come back in to get it reshaped, but she was never in. :(
Once again, Marni out did her self. I swear each cut I recieve gets better. Marni was able to squeeze me in, fill me with info, cut my hair, and make me feel like a million bucks. I just love how my curls fall into place everyday. Thank You, Marni <3
She was nice. Consultation was good. She told me how good my hair looked and trimmed a little off. $45 I paid and sent on my way.
I love Marni!!!!!! Today she turned my greasy stringy looking 3b/3c curls and the worst hair cut of my life into something diffrent. I so appreciated that not only was she nice which was refreshing not like at textures by Nefertti in detroit, that she was well knowledgeable about curls. She used the product Curl keeper that had one bad review from a previous client on my hair and made it WERK! Yes I SPELLED it the wrong way on purpose. I TRIED it the day before and it made my hair cruncy, but she told me how to use it, cause I was also ready to give a bad review on the product Curl keepeer! I Give her four out of five stars. Not only that the little things count she gave me coffee in a ceramic mug not a paper cup how nice was that. I only say 4 out of five because I did not recieve the Naturally Curlly discount and paid the full $60 hair cut price it was worth it though, plus i didnt leave a tip cause i felt it was tacky to ask for change for a $20. but i think the $60 was just fine! I LOVE MY HAIR CUT and she told me what products she used and now I can stop wasting my money on Miss Jessie's garbage products that sit on your hair and all these oils that sit on top of my hair cause all I need is a CJ deep conditioner and Curls one solution conditioner as a styler products. Thanx Marni!!!!!! ;)
Marni is amazing! First of all, she is very knowledgeable about curly hair and about deva cuts. She knows how to select the correct cut style and length for the individual person. Beyond that Marni is an incredibly nice person. She goes out of her way to accomodate her customers and makes sure to give each customer a cut with which she is happy. The salon is also very nice - I am a working mom, and I feel like going to salon spargo is like going on a little 1-hour long vacation.
I am african american I have 3b3c hair needed someone in my town that specialized in cutting curly hair. Beleive it or not, every hair dresser does not know how to cut curly hair especially kinky curly. Anyway I loved my experience. Marni wonderful specialist cut my hair turned out beautiful my curls last much longer between washing with out the frizz. I recommend her bar none to cut your african american kinky curly hair. Very patient just show her a picture of what u want or dont want. I think u get a discount if u mention the website.
Received my first Deva cut about 2 months ago. Lets just say I was not impressed. The salon was nice, clean no problems there. Marni was pleasant, but not overly friendly as everyone says she is. First off as soon as she took me to her chair, she looked me straight in the face and said "why are you here?" I told her I read great reviews on her and the Deva cut so I wanted to give it a try. she looked my hair over, trimmed, spoke few words, cleansed, few words again, I tried to make small talk, how long has she been doing this, your hair looks great etc....and you get the picture. By the end of it, the topper, was she couldn't even walk me up to the front desk to check out, little put back by that. All and all, I experienced Marni and I will look for someone who wants to cut my hair.
I just had my first visit with Marni today and I am more than pleased. Not only is she very nice but she is also extremely knowledgeable on how to take care of curly hair. I am a black woman with 3C hair and I have been transitioning from a relaxer to natural for about a year and half. I was very disappointed with my last hairstylist who I have been going to for about a year. She encourages black women to go natural but doesn't know how to cut curly hair and she doesn't recommend products to help with transitioning. Marni was the complete opposite. She informed me of every product that she used on me. She also showed me how much she was using of each product and how to use each product effectively. I also liked the haircut she gave me. Needless to say, I was very impressed and will return at her suggestion in about 4 to 6 months for a trim. :o)
I am writing this review 6 months later. I have contemplated whether or not to write a review. Marni was a sweetheart. We agreed on a cut (which meant shorter). Although I did not say anything when I left the salon, I was not happy with the styling of my hair or the cut. But, I usually can style my hair better than a stylist who has cut/styled my hair. I think that is pretty normal, as we know our hair the best. Well, I don't disagree with any of the reviews here. I don't think that all the people who have left comments here didn't have a wonderful haircut with Marni, but I however didn't. It has been 6 months since my cut, and it is the worst my hair has every grown out. It was so incredibly uneven..... I can't even explain how horribly it has grown out. It looked like my hair was hacked into it as it started to grow. After visiting my regular stylist, I have to agree with her on what may have happened. It appears that the bottom layer of my hair (near the nape of my neck) the part that curls the most was cut shorter than the top layer. I was so frustrated with it that just recently I visited my regular stylist and she had to cut 4-5 inches off to get it to look even and had to give me a blunt cut. I wanted to cry, but I think it just had to be done to get it to look normal. I will not be getting another Deva cut. I have been scared off.
The only salon that I hae ever had a good hair cut. Each time it is a GREAT Hair cut.
Yesterday, I had my first haircut from Marni! What a pleasant experience!! With over 40 years of having curly hair and at least 25 different hairstylists, I have FINALLY found the PERFECT stylist for curly hair!! If you want to celebrate your curls and have a cut that makes you feel young and beautiful, go to Marni today!! You will not be disappointed!! She's the BEST!!! I now have great products and instructions on how to make my curls look better than I could have ever imagined! My neighbor told me I looked like a moviestar! After a summer of pulling my hair back and years terrible or not so great hair cuts/styles, I'm so happy to FINALLY have a haircut and style that makes me appreciate the curly girl that I am!! Thanks Marni!!
What can I say that hasn't already been said? I would do a little reading on the Deva style of cutting before you go, just so you know what to expect. While I did purchase styling products at the end, it's only because Marni took the time to show me how to use it and because my hair looked amazing. I appreciate that she wrote down the styling steps we discussed over the course of the cut. This is by far the best haircut I have ever had. Make sure to mention you heard about her on this website for a new customer discount.
Marni cut my hair for the first time a little over two weeks ago. She did an amazing job with the cut and providing excellent advice on styling tips and product. Almost two weeks later, I still love it. I was in need of an updated style, and knew from the reviews on this site, as welll as Marni's commitment to CG methods, she was the stylist for me. I was afraid that if I found the wrong hair stylist that going shorter and seeking some shape, I would end up with a round poodle 'do of my youth. I was not disappointed with Marni, however, and in fact nodded in approval as she snipped away. The hair style is very contemporary, and works very well with my daily routine (which has also been improved due to Marni's advise).
I wanted to rave about my recent experience with Marni at Salon Spargo! I had my African-American 3C curls trimmed and styled by her recently and she is great! Not only did she listen to me and give me what I wanted, but she used a combo of products (Deva and Curl Keeper) on my hair and gave me excellent results. I no longer have George Washington shaped hair and I wasn't pressured to buy products. Best of all, I received a great discount for mentioning I found her on NC.com and was out of there in an hour. She will be seeing me for my next trim.
I highly recommend Marni to any curly girl!! Very knowledgeable, provided useful and practical and advice and more importantly gave me an excellent cut. My curls came to life!! Great job Marni!!!
I've had a deva curl cut before and I was happy with the results. The curls looked so healthy and bouncy, even though the cut is meant to be worn curly. So my expectations were high and Marni did not disappoint me. The appointment started early, she was very pleasant and professional. Marni proved to be very knowledgeable about curly hair, styling products, and provided useful resources. She was also open to other styling methods and products. Her own hair is curly and beautifully cut, so I knew I was going to have a great outcome. I cut over 6 inches off and I loved curls and the style. Since then I have gotten many compliments. I highly recommend her to anyone with curly hair!
It has been a week since I went to see Marni and my cut is AMAZING!!! I was able to get in to see her quickly and didnt have to wait to see here at the salon. She is very knowledgeable about curly hair and explained everything as she was doing it. I decided to also give the Devacurl products a try and I am in love with them too. I have cleansed my hair once since I got it cut and then just condition on the other days. My hair looks so healthly and the curl stays all day. I have never had a cut that I liked and have often left crying or went to style it the next day and could never get it right. The cut Marni gave me is great. It looks great everyday and its easy to style...just scrunch and let it air dry. The day after I went to Salon Spargo I almost cried...but this time because I loved my hair. I have never been able to say that but now I can....I LOVE MY CURLY HAIR!!!! If you live anywhere in the area go see Marni!!! She is well worth the money and the trip. I will be going back for sure!!!!
I saw Marni's advertisement on the Naturally Curly website and I made an appt with her. Marni was extremely knowledgeable about natural hair and curly hair. She took the time to explain my hair type to me and what products would work best with my curls. Marni is truly a testimony to the fact that great stylists have no color. Although Marni is caucasian and I am african-american she did a fabulous job on my hair and knows a lot about dealing with all types of hair. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a natural hair stylist as she is also Deva certified. I will definitely be going to see her again soon!
I made an appointment with Marni in December, based on reviews I read here. I'd just had a horrible hair cut and I wanted to get it fixed before the holidays. I walked into Salon Spargo and saw a lady with beautiful curls at the front desk. I thought, I am in the right place. It turned out the curly lady was Marni! She "fixed" my hair by cutting some of the curls shorter in a way that they would intertwine with the longer curls, so I would not have a layered look, and my hair looked tons better. She explained everything she did, and gave me a cheat sheet. She did not pressure me to buy any products from her. My hair still looks great and I have had many compliments on it. I trust Marni and will go back to her again.
I used to have to travel to NYC to Devachan, but no more! Marni is the best, giving my curls the TLC they deserve. They have never looked better. Plus she is as nice as can be!
Today was my first cut with Marni and I could not have been happier with her! She listened to exactly what I wanted and absolutely delivered. She also had some great tips. The salon is lovely and the staff were all very warm and friendly. Marni was easy to talk to and seemed to truly enjoy her job. Here is a woman who loves and understands curls! I think perhaps some of the bad reviewers here either didn't know what to ask for or didn't follow instructions properly. I can't imagine why else anyone would not be ecstatic about their Marni cut. Did I mention that she gave me a discounted rate of $45 for being referred to her through this website? What a deal! Even her normal $60 price is worth every penny. Did I also mention that it was my birthday? Thanks Marni for the best birthday gift a girl could ask for!!!
Marni is patient and kind to ladies who are discovering their curly hair for the first time. Her skills are top notch. She is Deva-trained, and committed to providing the best in hair care and styling.
Best haircut I've ever had. I love my hair so much more since Marni got a hold of it. Even my bad hair days are good. Dare I say, she's better than Devachan? I was traveling to NYC to get my haircut but no more!
I'm so happy, ecstatic with my new do by MARNI. She is so considerate of your feelings and how you want to look. Her patience while explaining the 'how-to' at home is never-ending. The cut for my face shape is perfect. Frizz is gone! I would recommend her with a million stars!
For years I had been searching for my "hair surgeon" and I finally found her. Marni has helped my hair make a complete 180, I had had it with hair stylists, until I found her. Not only does Marni listen to what I want, but she does it in a way, that is better than what I had imagined. My mom and I drive about an hour to get to the salon, and it is well worth it. As an added bonus, everyone at Salon Spargo is friendly, and accommodating. If you have curly hair, and you are ready to have the happiest curls in the world, make an appointment, you will not be disappointed. :)
I have said it before and I must say it again. Marni has been a godsend to my curls. This is the best haircut I have ever had, and I cut hair for a living. Marni introduced me to the Deva way, and I will never turn back. My hair is now doing what I have always wanted it to do. I'm talking a leave in and gel, shake and go. The deva products got my hair in condition, but Marni makes my curls play together perfectly. She can make them fall into each other when they need to, and make the pretty ones pop. If you live in Michigan you must see Marni. She is worth every penny and then some.
Marni is just phenomenal at what she does. She is a Deva-trained stylist, and an excellent communicator. Marni talks a curly-girl through the process of treating her particular head of curls correctly: there's no "one-size-fits-all" here! I appreciate Marni's talents so much. My hope is that she stays in the metro Detroit area for a long time to come.
Marni does a great job working with curls and explaining to her clients how to work with theirs. You'll love the way you look when you leave.
Marni is an awesome hairdresser but I will not be returning to Salon Spargo... I absolutely love the way Marni cuts and styles my hair. She has taught me about a whole new world of curly hair products that I now use and love. Ever since I started going to Salon Spargo I have been given nothing but compliments about my hair. However, I feel that the prices that Marni charges for her services are way too expensive! Does anyone else feel that $60 for just a hair cut and wash is a bit too high? I mean Marni is good but who can afford such prices?
I usually get my hair cut and colored at the Devachan Salon in NYC, and was nervous to try someone new. However after talking with Marni it became obvious to me how much she knows and understands curly hair! She gave me an amazing cut that accentuates my curls and great natural looking color. I am so thrilled to have found someone locally to do my hair!
I too am a client who drives almost an hour to see Marni. I also happen to be a hairdresser who freelances at two large salons. I have over 20 hairdressers to chose from at anygiven time, and I chose to drive to Marni. The cuts I have recieved from Marni are so totally unique to MY curls that I'll never go back to traditional cuts. She listens, she shares, she cares. If you are a curly who has tried everything and still cannot come to peace with your hair, I tell you to find your way to Marni. Your curls will thank you.
Mami knows a ton about curly hair, and I felt like I was sitting in a classroom with all the information she gave me on how to take care of it. However, she didn't listen to my needs (needed a more professional look, didn't mind going shorter, face-framing) and basically charged me an arm & leg for floating her scissors through my hair. I'm sure it was an "off" day for her as she has other people that love & trust her, but for the money, I'm not returning. Still need to find a salon in metro-Detroit, so I'll keep looking!
And may I also add (I had to go investigate myself)...to the person talking about Curl Keeper's "TOXIC" ingredient: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMDM_hydantoin ((it's called CONCENTRATION OF IT)) I just really don't believe if it were "TOXIC" the FDA or whomever regulates this kind of thing would permit it on the shelves. I mean...seriously. And to Mama...I had to see your posts on Curl Talk. My search yielded no returns/results. Credibility is always a GOOD thing ;)
I am, PROUDLY, one that drives OVER an hour for this cut. I'm sorry, but in my experience, once you experience it, it is VERY difficult to go back to the "straight-line" cut every other salon gives you. It doesn't matter WHO you go to, IMO...if it is that straight-line thing, the cut isn't tailored to YOU and YOUR HAIR and what your HAIR wants to do. That person is cutting it as if it were all the same. Man, I WISH my hair was the same all over. NEVER ONCE did Marni push a product on me. She told me what she was using, but she never...EVER pushed for a sale. Most of the time, when my hair starts outgrowing a cut, I might as well hang it up (top-heavy, etc), but with this one, it STILL holds its shape. I went back to the person that cut my hair before (locally) because of the drive, and after that, I just came to realize, there IS no comparison once you know the difference. It isn't about just cutting anywhere, randomly "having at it" as someone kind of put it in another review....it's about doing what YOUR HAIR wants to do and no, someone untrained could NEVER "follow" the cut to give you the same thing. It's NOT a straight cut! And with many other experiences many of us have had, you may not like the way someone who cut it "styles" it, but the cut can be just amazing. So you go home and do it YOUR way..it's happened to all of us so I know everyone knows what I am talking about. I am not looking back. I will drive the 1.5 hours and deal with traffic for this. The hair BEHAVES. The hair is HAPPY. The hair KEEPS its shape growing out. Marni is my hero. I have been shown the way :)
Thank you, Marni, for cutting my curls so that they look like their natural, beautiful state. Watching her work on my head was such fun! After 56 years on this earth, my hair will be as "real" as I am. No more blowing-out and flat ironing my lovely locks! If you are looking for a Devachan cut, I can recommend Marni to you.
Marni is wonderful with curls! It's not surprising that Marni gives all the tips and tricks from frizzoff.com and deva. That's where she was trained! And she gave me many recommendations for products that I could buy at Plum Market--not just products from the salon. She's helpful, she listens and she never pushes "her" products! She gives a cheat sheet to take home and encouraged me to put my own personal spin on the style routine--no ego with her at all. Definitely go see Marni!
The Marni show!! Well, I read the above recommendations and as a curly girl I know how exciting is that someone finally understands your curly "special needs" ... but what I have experienced in Spargo was nothing but an average haircut and as far as I see it Marni is no more than a good marketer that knows what her market needs to hear. Honestly, paying 60$ for mainly products demonstration is ridiculous. Especially when those are the products that she sells. She recommended me buying not less then 6(!!) "very essential" products. And by the way you can forget returning anything back. When I wanted to return one of the products I bought I got a big NO (doesn't matter I didn't open it or that I payed them more then 150$ a day before..). Do yourself a big favor and enter www.frizzoff.com which is the website of the products they sell. You can find 'how to' videos and tips that are EXACTLY what Marni is showing in her show...
I am thrilled to have found Marni, and am happily driving almost an hour each way to have her cut my hair. I've had four cuts with her so far. After seeing my most recent cut, a curly colleague asked me if I thought we could convince her to come do a day a month in Ann Arbor! Barring that, she asked for Marni's information at Salon Spargo so she can start commuting for cuts as well. Marni knows what she's doing and pays close attention while doing it. She really listens to your experiences and preferences and does her best to give you a cut and style you love that's right for you and your hair. She's friendly and down to earth. She's really excited about working with curly hair (her own is gorgeous!) and continuously works to enhance her professional education and skills. (Which is not to say that she's at a trainee level -- she's confident and has given me excellent cuts -- she's just not resting on her laurels or dogmatically assuming there's just one way to do things that's right for everyone.) I really couldn't be more pleased, and am looking forward to many more happy haircuts with her.
So I am always hesitant to see a new stylist. I recently moved into the area and after reading reviews I felt comfortable enough to make an appointment with Marni. She understands curls like no other stylist I have met, and I have seen many. After seeing the client before me leave with an amazing cut and style I was extremely excited to have my turn in her chair. She understands how curls need to be cut so you don't end up with one of those awful poodle cuts or one of those sharp obnoxious ledges in the back of your head. When she first used the product I was a bit concerned that it would be wet looking and ridged but after she is done and I got home and completely scrunched out my hair like she instructed it was amazing. I managed to get three days out of it!!!! It is so easy to follow at home too. The cut works well whether I keep it curly or decide to wear it strait. You are crazy if you live in the area and don't see Marni at least once. The salon has one of the best atmospheres I have seen. I can not say enough good things about my experience. I have definitely found my stylist!!!
I am 51 yrs old. I have curly hair (3a-3b) I was lucky to have good stylists most of my life until the past 5 years when they have retired. I have never had a problem styling my curly hair, as long as it is cut correctly. “Salon Spargo” is a nice place. I had an appointment with Marni...She is polite and seems to be very knowledgeable about the Devachan cut. Marni spent a great deal of time with me explaining what she was doing. The Deva cut is the WORST cut I have ever had. The only reason that this cut “works” is because curly hair is very forgiving when you wear it curly with enough product.I blew it out today and what a joke. I can’t even go out. I cannot believe how bad this looks. I am going to have to find a stylist Monday and try to get them to fix this mess.Even the worst stylist that I have ever been to, has NEVER made my hair look this bad.I told Marni that I wanted the option of wearing my hair “curly” or “straight.” The Deva cut cannot be worn straight. I could not have been clearer about NOT wanting to have the hair that grows from the top layer of my head cut shorter than the rest of my hair. I did agree to a few, face framing cuts. I even brought pictures of my various states of hair distress. It’s going to take another six months to grow this mess out of my hair. I am extremely upset.I went out after my appointment and could not wait to get home and wash the gunk out of my hair. Unfortunately, one of the products still STINKS and it is more than 24 hours later. Gross.
I had such a fun experience with Marni! The cut is amazing and my curls look awesome! She's also the reason that CurlKeeper is available in Michigan. She knows the creator!! I highly recommend Marni for your curls!
Fantastic haircut! I finally have a feeling of relief of stress, great frustration, anguish, and feeling depressed about my hair, never being able to find someone who truly is knowledgeable and knows curly hair and how to cut it. I can't thank you enough. I feel like a new women with my wonderful new haircut. Also the color is fantastic! Marnie is so nice, down to earth, friendly, very knowledgeable about curly hair. I felt very comfortable in her presence. The best haircut I have ever received. With great appreciation it will be worth the hour drive each way. For once in my life I truly enjoy getting my hair done! -Annette
My stylist, Claudia, has once again turned me on to a great product for my curly hair. It is called curl keeper. I told her I was leaving for Florida and it is so humid and Claudia told me that this product would make me happy in the humid weather down south. Well, it is TRUE TRUE, TRUE !!!! I was a happy girl with happy curls. By the way, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT haircut for curly hair and she gives me the color that makes my curls look even better!! She is an awesome stylist and Salon Spargo is just the place you want to be!!!!
I have been going to Claudia for many years! Before I met Claudia I hated my curly hair. It was my worst nightmare!! She would blow it straight. She would smooth it out and she would have products to make my curls more in control!! I always loved what she did and just recently I started wanting to wear it curly. It was just to much time to blow and I needed a change. She told me that she had started using a product called CURL KEEPER!!!! WHOOOO HOOOO!!! IT IS MY NEW BEST CURL FRIEND!!!!!! by the way my haircut has always been the best curly cut and her color that she gives me has always been SENSATIONAL!!! THANKS CLAUDIA AND THANKS FOR THE NEW CURL KEEPER. I LOVE IT!!! Also Salon Spargo is one of the most beautiful and comfortable salons I have been to!!
I have tried a bunch of salons and products and have never been very happy with the results for my 3B curly hair. I found this website, and the rave reviews of Salon Spargo and the stylist Marnie. So I thought I would give it a shot. Wow am I pleased! Marnie introduced me to new products & new curly hair techniques, and my hair is looking fabulous. She also left me with detailed instruction on how to achieve the same results at home! I have never been to a stylist that is so knowledgeable about curls. I really recommend her & Spargo if you need some curl help.
I just had my hair cut by Marni: the haircut is fabulous, and the whole salon experience was wonderful! I had avoided getting my hair cut for much too long because of some bad experiences, but Marni has divine curls herself and a nice personality to boot, and I felt immediately comfortable with her. I would highly recommend Marni, as she took the time to go through curl by curl and really understand how my hair works, first dry cutting individual curls, then washing/conditioning with DevaCurl products, and finally touching up the cut and styling with DC and Curl Keeper. She used more product than I've ever used in styling, but it really worked, and I left with loads of beautiful, defined, ringlet-y curls (which looked great the second day, too!). Throughout the experience Marni also taught me a lot about products and techniques with which I was unfamiliar, but which are completely doable at home. My hair has never looked this better, and I would highly recommend Marni and Salon Spargo!
I just recently went with my friend last Saturday while she was getting her hair done by Claudia. My friend and I have very curly hair. As I watched her do my friends hair with a fabulous cut and color she then used a product that is called curl keeper . To my surprise I could not believe what the results of this product did to my friends usually frizzie and unruly hair so I sat down and I asked her to style me and use the same product. I walked out with a new and updated style and no frizz and a defined curl and most of all I smiled and now I have found the hairdresser and product of my dreams. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CLAUDIA. HER CUT AND THE PRODUCT SHE USED AND HOW GREAT SHE MADE ME LOOK AND FEEL ... I NEVER HAD CURLS OR A CUT LIKE THAT EVER!!!!
I was there in December of 09 and Marni did a wonderful job on my hair. I just needed a little trim because my layers were growing out. She went in and snipped here and there until I had a better shape. She no pooed me with Deva products and we did a DT (costs extra). She styled me with CK, which in the dry weather might not have been wise, but I wanted to see how it would go. I was dry because of the CK but I looked good. I never would have used as much CK as she did but it held my hair in place and I can't wait to try it in the summer. If you are in the area give her a try its worth it!
OMG! I can't believe there is someone out there that actually knows how to cut curly hair! And better yet, I was able to find her! Marni is wonderful. And I look fabulous (even if I do say so myself). She taught me exactly what I can do to make my curly hair look great, educated me on the types of products to use and showed me how I can both dry my hair and keep my curls from frizzing. I had given up on being curly because I couldn't control the frizz ( I thought I had tried every product out there with no success), my curls wouldn't curl consistently and my hair takes too long to air dry(it gets much too cold in MI for that, a girl could catch pneumonia). So at least an hour a day was devoted to my flat iron. Add at least 30 minutes of blow dry time and I was lucky to get out of the house in under 2 hours. I feel like she has handed me the keys to the kingdom after 47 years of struggle. I swear I felt like crying in relief when she was finished with me. I know it sounds over the top, but if you have naturally curly hair you know what I mean. Marni is very nice, extremely knowledgeable and a patient teacher. I highly recommend her. Have her cut your hair once and you will be hooked! Now I just have to figure out what to do with all the time I'll be saving everyday. Maybe I'll sleep in now! LOL! THANK YOU MARNI!
From the moment I walked into the salon I knew this experience would be much different than any other salon visit I have had. First, I must say I have never been to such a diverse salon (both stylists and clients). As a multi-racial client, it is nice to finally feel as though I "belonged". Second, Marni was so knowledgeable not only about curly hair but also about the curly girl method. She spent a lot of time analyzing my hair and then cut only where needed. Last, I have never been to a salon that sells the products that are specifically made for curly hair, which until now I have had to purchase on-line. If you are a curly girl and don't currently have a stylist that truly specializes in curly hair, you need to make an appointment with Marni. I guarantee it will change the way you feel about your curly hair.
I visited Salon Spargo last week and met Marni and the experience was just incredible. Marni is the most talented, knowledgeable curly hair specialist I have ever met. You will be very comfortable while learning her "secrets" of how to handle curly hair. I'm so happy!!!
For me getting a hair cut used to be just as traumatizing as going to the dentist. Every hair stylist I went to gave me a terrible haircut. Most recently, a hairstylist gave me what some people like to call, “puppy dog ears”, but I’ve also experienced worse including the classic triangle head. Overall I had given up on my curly hair but then I went to see Marni Foster at Salon Spargo and she changed everything! She was so helpful and informative. I learned more about curly hair from her in 15 minutes then I’ve learned in 15 years. She not only gave me a great haircut but also showed me how to style my hair so that everyday it will look great! I really enjoyed my time with Marni and I plan to continue to go see her. Also, I was really impressed with the salon itself. It has a great atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
By the time I had read all the reviews and decided where to go, I had really high expectations. I am thrilled to say I was not disappointed! Marni makes you feel like the most important person in the world, listening carefully to all your curly concerns. My cut is lovely, my curls are soft and shiny like I've never had before. Marni walked me through all the steps of how to care for my curls at home so I didn't have to worry. The salon is low-key and comfortable. Highly recommend!
Marni cut my hair last week. I am so excited to finally find someone who really knows how to cut curly hair. I left there feeling so good about my hair and was able to get 3 days out of the style! It is rare that I've been able to get 2nd day hair much less 3rd day hair. I highly recommend Marni. Also, I actually enjoyed the salon atmosphere. I get tired of those loud obnoxious salons. This salon is pleasant and relaxing.
I had the most wonderful experience with Marni. My hair has never looked so good and it actually looks healthy. This was the fist time I have ever had someone understand and listen to the problems that I have had with my hair. She took the time to show me how to manage my curls and maintain my curls. Where has Marni been all of these years that I have struggled to find someone that knew how to cut my long, course, curly hair? Well, now that I have finally found her I will not have anyone else cut my hair. She is the best!!! If you have curly hair and are from Michigan you have to stop in to see Marni at Salon Spargo. I really just can not say enough good things about her and the salon! It was the first time in 38 years that I felt that my hair was beautiful when I left a salon.
I knew as soon as I saw her that she was going to be great with curls. Her own hair is so pretty! I knew a lot about CG before going to see her, but after a year of trying this technique and that product, it was great to talk with her and get "back to the basics". My hair didn't need much cutting, but she fixed a couple of problem areas and gave me a great education. I will be going back for sure! :)
I had a great experience with Marni at Salon Spargo. First, she responded to my emails when I sent her a few questions. Second, when I saw her for my appointment, she answered all my questions, explained products and techniques to me, and made recommendations based on her personal experiences. I will definitely go to her again for a curly cut and color!
I have my hair both cut and colored by Marni at the salon. She is the first person who has ever said that she understands my curl pattern! I couldn't be happier. It is very obvious that she has been trained to specialize in curly hair. I use all the products she recommends and after 40 years I have finally learned to embrace my curls. I can't imagine going anywhere else!!
I had my cut with Marni in late March, and all Michigan curlies MUST go see her! I'm still loving my cut almost two months later, and I have every intention of going back for my next cut. Marni was absolutely awesome and did a really great job listening to what I wanted and helping me figure out what would work best with my face shape and curl pattern. I can honestly say that this is the first haircut I have ever actually loved, and Marni was definitely worth the trip! I finally have a style! After doing a careful dry cut (curl by curl!) and adding lots of layers, she gave me a conditioner rinse and styled my hair with Deva One Condition, Curl Keeper, and AnGell. She then did a little more touching up after it was dry (first with a diffuser on the ends, then under the hood dryer). In addition to being a Deva-trained stylist, Marni is also a Curl Keeper representative, and you can get all the products of those lines at the salon. No shipping costs! Really, I can't say enough wonderful things about Marni. She's incredibly nice and listened carefully to what I wanted and what issues I had been having. As a fellow curly, she follows the CG method herself and understands everything about it. The salon itself is pretty swanky as well and has a very upbeat atmosphere--all in all, the experience was worth every penny. Seriously, go see her!
