great workers, Kelly Mimi Shannon Celeste Rakia Terrell are awesome. Owner seems like not interested in clients and too self centered to care about other clients but hers. Used to be more zen, wonder what happened.

I am a 44 year old African American woman and yesterday was, hands down, my best salon experience EVER. I have never left a salon so educated and so very happy about my cut (first Deva/curly cut) and Colorado before. Wafaya is absolutely amazing. I have lots of heat damage in the front and she took so much time with me to explain how to care for the injured portion of my hair as well as the healthier part in back. I also broke down and floored my hair. I could not be happier with the results. Not only did I leave Oasis with rejuvenated curls but I also feel confident to care for my hair at home going forward. Good-bye flat irons, blow dryers, and "creamy crack." With Wafaya and company, I am excited to continue my naturally curly journey.

I have trusted Mimi with my swavy hair for the past 3 years -- and I mean TRUST! She has brought out the best in my hair. What a relief to find a curl-savvy stylist. Mimi does an excellent job with both cutting and highlighting my hair and I totally trust her to do it just right. I regularly receive compliments on my hair thanks to Mimi's expertise. Mimi is also a wonderful, gentle, kind person. I happily recommend Mimi and Oasis Salon to others fortunate enough to live the curly life!

Stylist: Terrell

Rating: Salon Rating: 5 Scissors

I just started transitioning about nine months ago. Terrell was very knowledgable and made the whole appointment educational. I wasn't planning to cut my hair but he listened to what I was trying to do with my hair and came up with a great style that made more comfortable with cutting some of my relaxed ends. My second visit a few months later I cut even more. I am so excited about my hair journey! Terrell had great product recommendations that have helped me move on from the product junkie phase of my hair journey. The products are healthy for my hair and allow me to recreate the salon look without a lot of steps. Terrell is amazing and I recommend him to every curly sistah out there. You don't need sticky crunchy products. Terrell is worth every penny plus a good tip! You won't be disappointed. The salon is calm, clean, professional, and timely. Everyone leaving there regardless of ethnicity looks amazing!

I've had curly girl cuts before, but a few months ago I had an appointment with Wafaya that was incredible. She listened to my concerns, made suggestions, and I ended up with this incredible cut. Even my sister complimented me on my haircut, which is a first! At this point, if Wafaya said its time for a mohawk I would do it! I trust her implicitly, which after years of non-curly-girl haircuts is saying something.

Yesterday was my third time going to Oasis and I am as impressed as ever. I have somewhat temperamental hair that undertook a TON of damage 2 years ago and going to Oasis was the first real step towards my hair's health. Wafaya has cut my hair the last two times and I'm as ever impressed by her warmth, knowledge, and humor. She took my 4 day old, grungy hair and by the time she was done with just the dry cut, it looked about 1000 times better. After it was washed and set, Wafaya fixed my layers a little and it was magic to watch how my curls reacted to the way she was cutting. She is truly amazing! I'm trying to get all my other curly haired friends to come out to Oasis, because it's so worth it. I look forward to every appointment because from the moment I walk in the door, I'm swept up in the great music, awesome smell, and just great vibe of the place, and I know I'll leave with not only great hair, but with a sense of relaxation and well being just from being there. Wafaya and her staff are simply incredible and Oasis is an absolute god-send!

Anytime that I need my hair back in shape, Karen always does her magic touch. She carefully listens to my concerns and always answers any questions I may have about my hair. I have been going to Karen for 2 years now. The cuts always emphasize my (inconsistent) curl. Karen is good at layering for a shaped cut. I get tons of compliments about the layers and curl - I am constantly recommending the salon and Karen. If you are not used to the products/curly cuts your cut may end up feeling shorter than you wanted because the ladies at Oasis know how to bring out all the curl and there is inevitably shrinkage. Overall, a great salon.

Karen has been giving me the curly girl cuts for several months now. She is great. She has shaped my hair so that it holds the curls very well, and has taught me how to style and (air) dry it. I have nice curls and no frizz! When it's getting hard to style, I go in and she shapes it so that the curls hold well. The salon has a nice vib, very low key. Sometimes someone else does the shampoo and styling, but I always am happy with the way my hair looks when I leave, so I feel like they are a great team. I highly recommend Karen and the Oasis salon. I had been searching for a place that knew had to cut curly hair ever since moving to Maryland 2+ years ago and think I have finally found my place! The Salon had a very warm atmosphere and the staff was very knowledgeable on how to style, shape and care for curly hair. I came in looking for a cut and color, Karen was able to clean up my hair but kept the length that I asked for, the highlights were really wonderful color was spot on and the highlights really brightened up my hair color without looking unnatural. My only complaint was that I felt that my stylist was double booked and I was traded off and to someone else to dry my hair. While Karen did come back for the final goodbyes and to see if I was satisfied I felt a bit that I was shuffled between different individuals instead of having one stylist with my throughout then entire process. Although that could definitely be due to fitting in many people at a popular curly hair destination. I would highly recommend Oasis Salon to any one looking for a quality cut and color.

I heard about the Deva Curl cut by Lorraine Massey from two different people and decided to find a salon that specializes in curly hair & the Deva Curl method. My entire life I was always SO disheartened that no stylist knew how to cut or style my curly hair. If you are a "curly girl", Oasis salon is for you. As soon as I walked in I noticed that almost all of the employees & clients had curly hair. I almost cried. These were my people :). Mimi was wonderful. PLEASE allow a lot of time for your 1st appointment. It will benefit YOU. She used the Deva cut & styling method. As soon as she said she was going to cut my hair while it was DRY, I knew there was hope. I immediately saw the difference. I was always told that my dark brown hair couldn't have highlights. This is where Mimi is exceptionally gifted. She gave me these beautiful caramel colored highlights. Not only do they look natural, but they help hide my gray roots between appointments. She patiently explained what she was doing & showed me how to care for my hair & style it. She is kind, conscientious & doesn't take it personally if you give her feedback or want her to do something differently. Literally EVERYONE I know who saw my "new hair" for the 1st time complimented me. "Why is your hair so curly?", "I LOVE your highlights!", "What are you doing differently? Your hair looks beautiful!", "I love your curly hair". If you are nervous about trying a new salon & stylist, Mimi at Oasis salon is for you. Mimi recommended the type of products to use, but she never pushed any of the products they sell. I highly recommend the DevaCurl products & the "Curly Girls" book by Lorraine Massey ("inventor" of the curly cut method). For the 1st time in my life I LOVE my hair & feel confident that I know how to make it look great everyday. Thank you Oasis & Mimi!

I started going to Oasis about a year ago and I have recommended Celeste at Oasis to about 10 people. This is a wonderful salon. Down to earth, friendly and warm. Celeste listens, remembers and is honest about what your hair can and can not do. She has good training and explains how to work with your hair. I went curly after many years and found it liberating! I have healthier hair and I save time in the morning. Celeste has been instrumental in giving me confidence that I can work with my hair. I highly recommend Oasis and Celeste is Tops!!!

Really disappointed. I came here twice in the past three months and specifically waited for the second experience to review the salon. I have curly hair and I am meticulous about researching good places for curly hair. Oasis got good reviews and I asked for Mimi because she received high ratings. I have been to Ouidad and DevaCurl (in NY) salons, so I know what is considered quality when dealing with curly hair. My first appointment was for highlights. I specifically told them I needed to be out in an hour and a half because I went during the week at lunch. Two hours later, I had to ask them to hurry up and not worry about styling my hair since I had to get back to work. I was also in pain (I even had to say something) when they were combing my hair after the wash. It felt like they were pulling out all of my hairs and I can't imagine they didn't notice my pained face. While Mimi was very nice, I was not impressed. I decided to give the salon a second chance about 2 months later to get my haircut. BTW - my highlights were gone by that time, which is not typical for me. When Mimi Can to greet me, she said, “long time, no see”. Umm, two months is not long in the haircut world. She then made a mistake by saying I had gotten a haircut there. She obviously did not do her background check on me before I arrived. I had stressed previously that having my hair cut shorter than asked was one of my biggest fears. I showed Mimi where the max. level is that she should cut to and she cut a bit shorter than that. I was hoping she would be more conservative with her shears. I can deal with the cut because I had a lot of hair to lose (she probably took off about 3 inches, a lot for me), but I do expect more. Also, having the "Deva Cut" in New York, I knew what was expected for cutting curly hair, and I felt that she started with the Deva Cut methodology but then started cutting my hair in a way I have not seen in years. While the services were cheaper than going to the headquarter salon in NY, I'm thinking I might head back that way when I need services again.

I've been going to this salon for at least a year and never had any complaints. However, my last experience was a nightmare. The stylist that I regularly saw left and I saw a new stylist, Karen. When I made the appointment, I told that receptionist that I wanted someone who knows how to do African American kinky coily hair. She said that every stylist is trained to do all types of hair. Wrong! Apparently Karen missed that training. I only wanted my split ends trimmed and she cut off a good 2 inches. She kept mistaking frizzy parts of my hair for split ends. After shampooing my hair she didn't know how to de-tangle it. She kept yanking and pulling it apart. She also didn't know how to define my curls. After she was done my hair was white from all the conditioner she left in there, extremely short, frizzy, and no curl definition. Also, their were parts of my hair that were tangled when I left. I can't believe she thought this was acceptable. She kept trying to tell me that's how my hair is. The whole thing cost $85. When I met up with my friends and family they said that it looked a mess. I had to end up washing it in the morning. I regret not talking to the manager. My intent is not to bash the stylist or the salon, because they have good service and I've seen them do a good job on other types of textures. I'm just mad that she didn't say that she didn't know how to do my type of hair because it was a waste of my time and money.

Three members of our family go to Oasis Salon because the women there give great cuts and color, and no drama. I highly recommend Mi Mi for cut and color. I am over 50 with gray to manage, and a mousy base color in the first place. I wear my hair in various stages of short to shorter. Mi Mi listens to what I ask for on that visit, and has given me natural looking color that grows out well. Everyone in the salon is friendly and helpful, so that I feel relaxed and rejuvenated when I leave. She's also done a great job on my daughter's shoulder-length hair. Mi Mi is also a lovely woman, inside and out. My husband uses whatever stylist is available when he wants to go in, since his schedule precludes booking much in advance. His hair used to frizz, so he kept it very short. Now it's got great defined curls, no matter the length. All three of us have been using the DevaCurl products for years, which make a huge difference in the manageability and curliness of hair. It moisturizes without weighing down, and doesn't have the silicones that will smooth temporarily, but soon are damaging. Oasis is aptly named. Even the music is great. You will emerge with a haircut that will fit your lifestyle, and that you can manage on a daily basis. Make an appointment with Mi Mi

Rating: Salon Rating: 2 Scissors

Hair Type 3c/4a I read through ALL of the reviews and this salon was the highest rated in my area(40 minutes, plus traffic). I received a warm welcome from the front desk and waited less than 10 minutes to be seen. Brittney greeted me and informed me she was my stylist (Now I was a little worried at this point because she a had a full sew in silky weave, and EVERYONE else had curls.) I told her I simply needed a trim and a little shape up top. Now this is where I'm starting to feel ripped off; a (REAL) Deva cut entails that you cut each curl individually "where they live" and what I received was the cut I would have gotten on strait hair. She took big sections and clipped the ends which took her all of 20 minutes, maybe. Now to the shampoo bowl, she was so rough with detangling my hair I cried out in pain (I DO NOT have a tender scalp at ALL!)and she didn't detangle from ends to roots, it was mid-shaft to roots ripping my hair out in the process. After having my hair ripped out now comes styling. I have very fine hair, that I EXPLAINED to her need some sort of product with hold (An-gel) in addition to conditioner. She completely ignored that suggestion and stuck me under the dryer and took off for her cigarette brake. After sitting there for about 45 mins, I notice that the back of my hair is matting up (because I don’t have a product with any hold in it!) just as she walks back in with her lighter in hand I'm removing the hooded dried hair STILL soaking wet in the front (I have wayyyyy to much hair for a hooded dryer, but I guess diffusing was too much work.) and I said I'll just air dry the rest. I ran home, dropped my purse and jumped in the shower to RE-style my hair. After it dried it was STILL uneven. After I spent $75 + $10 tip, an hour coming and going, and gas to receive a NON-Deva cut and still end up paying for a Deva cut. I can say that salon Oasis will NEVER receive my business again!

Rating: Salon Rating: 3 Scissors

After more than 3 visits to the salon, I think I have a pretty fair assessment... Overall, I like the vibe in there - everyone is a curly head or curly head supporter that works there. Very good customer service. They do carry the Deva brand, so if you are fan that is a good thing. Salon is spotlessly clean and has a great magazine selection. They don't overly push selling the products. Location - northern part of Rockville pike, which is traffic hell but I go on Saturdays to minimize the impact. My first appointment was my best - Raena was very patient and supportive, listened to my concerns, and walked me through the process. I will say when I went in I had very good color that I had done at another salon and was quite happy with at the time (I used to get compliments, if that is an indication). The cut was the problem, since the stylist I had been seeing was not curly aware and would hack and create layers using thinning shears. For those of you that haven't done it, the Deva method can be a bit daunting at first to get right. I will say that very few stylists are good at color and cut in my experience. If you have resistant greys, curly hair and are a brunette, better to go to a colorist who can work through it with you. So, overall pretty pleased - also, I like that the salon makes a point to get involved with charity work.

Not only did she know how to tame my hair, but the education she gave was wonderful! From start to finish I knew what was going on with my hair and how to treat my problems Ive been having with it and she made it easy for me. Wafaya and her team are MIRACLE workers!!! Here's a little background about my hair. I had a relaxer in my hair for years....and when i say years...my hair was relaxed for at least 20 years. WHen I moved from NY 6 years ago I decided to grow it out and I went natural. Did the BIG CHOP and all. I was doing well and my hair was a little bit passed my shoulders. I decided that i wanted highlights and went to a "reputable" salon in the area. They lightened my base color and gave me gorgeous highlights. The problem was they left the developer in my hair too long and a few short HOURS later my hair was coming out, breaking off, and felt like straw. Not only was it breaking but the chemicals reacted with my hair the same way a relaxer would and my curls were once again straight. I was devastated to say the least. The mother of a student of mine referred me to Oasis and Wafaya and I now REFUSE to go elsewhere. Not only has Wafaya comforted me in my time of "need" but she has encouraged me and has taught me how to nourish and work with my hair at this "in between" stage. That's what I love about Oasis. Not only do they do hair (and do it VERY well, i might add) but they teach you had to take care of it, how to work with it and show you what products are the best for your hair type. Almost any salon can do hair. But this is the only salon that i've been to in this area that actually cares about my hair, cares about me and won't just do whatever to my hair for a quick buck. Bravo Oasis!! You will always have my business!!

I had an interesting experience here. I just recently moved to the Rockville area and was looking for a new permanent salon that could handle my curly hair. After doing some research online, I thought this place looked like a reasonable choice. I called to make my appointment a week beforehand, and also noted on the phone that I wanted a cut and color. I was having friends in for the weekend, so it was excited to be able to get an appointment. I arrived and my stylist, Raena, was already ready to leave. She gave me a half-a$$ hair cut, and told me she would rather not do color because she has to go soon, etc. She told me to come in during the week, but I have a job and cannot go until after 6. Then she tried to push highlights. I was okay with some high lights. To make matters worse, she Raena left while my hair was drying, so when I finally got to see the color - she wasn't even there. Maybe this was a good thing. It all goes uphill from here. I went back two days later, Yolanda made such an effort to make sure it was right this time. She mixed my color, and also instructed the young Asian girl (Wafaya I think) on how far down to dye it, etc. Yolanda was super nice about the whole thing, and so was Wafaya. My hair ended up turning out pretty good - its got a nice goldish brown color to it, and I am happy with it. I think I will go back in awhile, but I am going to request Yolanda next time. I would advise against Raena. Thank you Yolanda and Wafaya!

Yolanda still greeted me with a warm smile and was not rude at all. My first impression of Yolanda and the salon was great. It felt inviting like a salon should be. Mimi is my girl! She has not only revolutionized my own hair so that I can actually wear it down, but I recently took my 2.5 year old for her FIRST haircut with mimi! You can't put a price on a girl's self-esteem and confidence. For $25, I thought that was a pretty good deal. She's getting tons of compliments. Just like with me, Mimi knows how to take a fuzzy mess, make one snip and watch the curl bounce up! I can't recommend her enough. Per another review - for a grown up this is a long process so budget two or so hours to be there. They're very attentive adn deliberate. No shortcuts. In addition, one time Mimi and I experimented with my hair color. I decided I didn't like it and true to their policy, I was able to go back the next week and have it changed, at no cost, no problem. And finally, I was worried about my daughter sitting in the chair without cartoons and all the other stuff "kids salons" have, but 1 - the haircut took a very short time and 2 - Mimi was just so good with her. She was fascinated and entertained the whole time. This was a fun girly day out for her to feel like her mama, not some traumatic first haircut story.

Your hair is cleaned, conditioned and prepped for styling with a line of products, Deva Curly Girl. Your hair feels renewed! No more dry crunchy curls due to all the sulfates in other products. If you color your hair it color will last and stay bright until your next appointment. The salon also does not push these products on you. However, if you want to try them, and you will, they offer an economical prepackaged travel size (s). There is no pressure in this salon. When I go to my appointment I call it my "Princess Day," because they make me feel so relaxed, comfortable and catered to. I don't even have to hand Mimi foils for my highlights like I did in other salons. Don't just think you have to do your hair curly all the time. If you want it straight they can do that too! Do yourself and your hair a favor and try OASIS and ask for Mimi. A really happy satisfied customer, Patricia Driscoll

When I first saw this place online I had some if's because I never went to a salon that I wanted my natural curls done. But I decided to go any way so I got a appointment. So then I went in and I knew this place was very professional because once I went came in the atmosphere was very welcoming. Yolanda on the other hand was the nices stylist I have ever met she was nice and helpful and trimmed my hair very good so if you are in the area of this salon I advise you to go here you won't regret it (ask for Yolanda)!!!!!

I love Oasis. I have been to both Mimi and Catherine, and my hair has never looked better (despite years of trying multiple curly "experts" up and down the Eastern seaboard)! My curly 2 yr old daughter has had 2 excellent cuts from Mimi, taming her massively thick curly mane. I can't say enough wonderful things. The knowledge of how to take care of curls is incredibly helpful as well.

Moved to the DC area a year ago and have tried several salons. I have found my Oasis in the desert of bad hair-cutting! My experience was excellent from start to finish. Oasis is welcoming without putting on airs like some salons. As a guy, this was a totally new experience for me. I am usually very uncomfortable in the salon setting, and feel my questions or concerns are ignored. Yolanda and the team spent a lot of time listening to my hair issues and coaching me on how to maintain my hair. I got a great cut. One note: Oasis spends a lot of time with you. It's not a one-hour-and-out salon. Plan accordingly. Well worth the time spent.

I visisted Oasis last night and was very apprehensive because I've been to a couple since I've BC'd last year and none have stuck. But I think I've found a home for my hair. Yolanda was great. She really took her time and educated me on several things concerning my hair, the best products to use, and technique in caring for my 4a/4b curls. I really like the time and attention that was given to me. No long waits or anything and something that I was truly impressed with was my coloring consult. Yolanda actually ASKED me what I wanted to do as far as color, since that is what my appointment was for, before just coloring my hair or doing her own thing. I have NEVER EVER had that before. I really appreciate that she showed me my options and discussed what I could do in the future if I wanted to make any changes down the road with my hair color. She also gave me some tips on staying on top of my gray in the back of my hair, soemthing that I've never been told or thought about. She was very patient with me too since I have questions and she may have noticed my apprehension/nervousness. She cut/trimmed my hair cautiously taking her time and being thourough. I love the results! I appreciate Terell, another stylist there, as well becuase he answered all of my questions on the phone beforehand and recommended Yolanda to me and I'm was not disappointed. Lastly I thought I was going to have a product push at the end for the Deva line but oh no, Yolanda told me what I needed for my hair and didn't try to encourage me to buy things that weren't necessary. I have an overall great experience and will return. I am hoping that my experience is the same each time. Also, reasonable prices for the time and services provided.

From start to finish, this was the best experience I've ever had at a salon. They made me feel welcome and went out of their way to anticipate my every want or need. This was more than a salon! Not only did I walk out with an exceptional haircut allowing me to work with my curls and not against them, they made me feel proud of the way my hair is naturally. The entire staff is beyond exceptional!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!

I went to Oasis because of reviews on this site and am so glad I did. I've been to Mimi twice now, in April and in August, and I'm very happy with both cuts. She's the first stylist who's ever cut my hair dry. I'm really liking the way Mimi listens to what I am trying to do (right now, experimenting with lengths I like best). I've never been able to let my hair get past a certain length without it going flat on top. But my hair is growing out nicely and keeping a decent shape a couple of months after my cuts. I get compliments on my curls, and (this is a huge) even my dad liked it last time he visited. This is the man who has ALWAYS kvetched about my "unruly" hair and told me I should cut it short. Also, I have given myself permission not to go gently into gray, and entrusted Mimi with disguising my grays with highlights. I love the result. The various colors blend well and the curly cut lends itself to disguising roots as they grow in. Consider me a happy customer!

After 4 years of my husband trying to convince me to straighten my hair, both of us are ready to stop fighting it and embrace my curly hair! I had tried one of the Deva products on my own, but didn't really understand how to utilize it to its fullest until I meet Wafaya. Yes, as you read in another review, she encourages you to use the Deva products and it's not because she is getting a kick back; it's because they work. I have tired other hair products that are free of sulfates and all they did was dry out my hair. Wafaya took her time with me, asked me about my hair, explained what she was going to do and explained to me what I needed to do at home to keep my hair looking great. This was the first time I have had a stylist who didn't want to straighten my hair to cut it. I love my curls now and it's all due to our little piece of curly hair heaven here in Rockville!

Add me to the list who had a bad experience. I was so excited to find a salon that understood curly hair but I was incredibly disappointed. I should have known when I tried to make an appointment. The phone rang off the hook and then the person who answered the phone wasn’t that helpful trying to figure out who would be best to cut my hair. I had to wait over 20 minutes for Mimi. I should have walked out – the salon wasn’t that busy. She really pushed the “method” but almost seemed to be bored to have to describe it again. I brought pictures and explained what I liked/didn’t like and what I thought was realistic for my hair. All she cared about was the “method” and pushing the Deva products. They must get some kickback on selling the products. The dry cut wasn’t bad but then it was downhill from there. And then I got blamed for my hair looking badly because I didn’t like the Deva products so she only used some but not all on me. Seriously? If the products were that great, there would be no need for this site. My hair was a flat matted mess and I walked out with less curl than I went in with. And it was incredibly uneven and much shorter than I wanted. Can’t I just get a good cut? Maybe those who have had better experiences can enlighten me. I’m missing something with this salon. Definitely not worth $70.

I live about 45 minutes from Oasis and decided to try them based on the wonderful reviews here. They did not disappoint. They were very friendly on the phone when I made my appointment. When I arrived, they offered me tea and I went straight into the chair for a consultation. Wafaya's first words after introducing herself and welcoming me to the salon were "Your curls are beautiful. What would you like me to know about your hair?" This approach is crucial to a positive salon experience because my biggest fear is that someone will just start chopping without understanding my hair. Everything that I brought up was addressed during the appointment - from cutting my hair of many textures so that it all blended together to giving me ideas on how to keep my curls lively between washes. As Wafaya related her story of learning to love and appreciate her own curly mane, it was clear I was in the hands of someone who not only had the expertise, but who also had the understanding of what we as curlies deal with. My hair is looking great and feeling more hydrated than ever before. I will definitely be back for my next cut.

Great salon! And I love my cuts from Mimi! I've been going to Oasis for about 6 months and my hair has never looked better. Mimi does a wonderful job with cutting and styling and has given me terrific advice when I asked her questions about how I can do my hair myself. The products she recommends are great, too -- worth every penny. I've already had two other "curly girls" ask me where I was getting my hair cut and Oasis gives me a discount when someone comes in saying I recommended them. I can't say enough good things about this salon.

This hair salon is awesome!! My first visit was today...it was very pleasant and comfortable. Catherine, my hair stylist, was so professional, knowledgeable and skilled in managing curly hair. I am a puertorican currently wearing my hair short with natural curls but in the process of growing it. My stylist colored and conditioned my hair with the DevaCurl products. She worked on my curls so nicely...at the end, my hair looked and felt soft, hydrated and even longer. LOL I definately recommend this salon to the curlies. Excellent customer service and environment. I am so excited to find this salon. Thank you so much Catherine. Keep up the good work! Sincerely, Minerva

I have been going to Oasis for three years and have always been absolutely thrilled with the service I've received there. I mostly see Wafaya but have also seen Mimi and both have made me look beautiful! As a teenager, I had much curlier hair -- around the 3B-3C range -- but it has relaxed as I've gotten older. Its texture now is somewhere between waves and ringlets, and I never really knew how to handle it -- I would often blow it straight. Since introducing me to the "curly girl" lifestyle, I'm happy to say that my curls are coming back! They've taught me how to make the most of my hair's texture. Now I've got great curls again -- people compliment me all the time. I would highly recommend visiting Oasis -- you won't be disappointed!

My hair has NEVER looked better, thank you MIMI. My DEVA salon Girl. I loved how much time she took just on the consultation, she was friendly and very much informed on Deva as well as curl care. The salon as a hole was so welcoming and clean. Every one smiled and looked happy to be at work and with each other.( imagine that HAPPY TO BE AT WORK.)Between MIMI'S Impeccable curl care,I noticed the team joked and playfully interacted.A salon that had fun with each other.I was really blown away as I am 46 and in my salon visits elsewhere i usually felt like the stylist not working in the chair next to mine, wanted me to hop over to her side.WHAT A TEAM, WHAT A SYSTEM AND MY CURLS ARE AWESOME. HAPPY AND COMMITTED.

I came to the Oasis salon two months ago after a friend recommended it for curly hair. It was easy to book an appointment that fit my schedule. I had been a devotee of Lorraine Massey's Curly Girl philosophy and Deva Curl products for nearly seven years, with no realistic hope of getting a "curly girl" cut, since the DevaChan salon is in Soho. When she started shaping my hair with the scissors, she was careful to tell me what she was doing, and how it would change the shape and quality of my curls. I saw an immediate difference in my hair, even before it was washed and set. While my hair was drying, I was able to hear Mimi working with another new client, and introducing her to the "curly girl" cutting and styling method. Mimi was patient and understanding with the client's initial misgivings and was able to quickly put her at ease. The next appointment was better than the last, and I am confident that the unsolicited compliments that I get on my hair will continue as long as my curls are in Mimi's care.

Stylist: Mimi

Just want to offer my endorsement of Mimi, who has been my stylist for over 10 years. While my hair styles have certainly changed over time, the expert hair care provided by Mimi has remained consistent and professional. I have fine, wavy hair that tends to curl in all of the wrong places. Under Mimi’s guidance, I have learned to keep my hair looking stylish and healthy without investing a lot of time and money. I always leave Mimi’s chair with expertly colored, perfectly styled hair…and I never fail to receive compliments on my “awesome hair” – sometimes from perfect strangers! I highly recommend Mimi to anyone who is looking for a stylist who is truly a hair “perfectionist”. You – and your curly hair – will never look better :)

I was quite nervous to get a curly girl cut because i've had bad experiences with Oiudad in the past. i am very happy to say that this is nothing like their salon. the staff is very knowledgable and helpful. i don't care for all of the products, but after day 3, i am liking the curl definition. they are very skilled, professional and knowledgable on curly hair needs.

To the O Team 1st I would like to say my O team member was Mimi. To Oasis bunch is not a hair salon but part of the new curly movement revolution. My cut & curly set was smashing the team flowed & the customer service was almost unheard of in today’s salon experience. They are socially & community conscience & I will be seeing Mimi again in September. As I was paying a very reasonable bill for such an experience. I realized I just joined a team of women that surround themselves with positive quotes. I’m sorry to the 1 person I read that was not happy. You have to be ready for women with a cause as they are with skills and techniques that are developed. This diverse group of people that have the beauty culture moving forward not everyone is ready for that & yes they have arrived as curly people. Cheers! Robin M.

Wafaya is an excellent stylist! She has cut my hair twice and I feel my curls have been revived since her cuts and using Deva Care products. I couldn't be happier. Within the first few weeks of my first cut, I received so many compliments and referred 4 curly girls to her! She understands curly hair and has taught me how to care for them. Wafaya, you rock! See you soon. Ellie

Catherine cut my hair and didn't do the greatest job. She left it uneven and I didn't feel like she left me with a style. She kind of chopped it. I won't be going back.

Hey, I read the last comment about Mimi, and I'm really SURPRISED by your grievance. I've used Mimi on several occasions and I've had AMAZING experiences with her and the salon. I have been consistently MORE THAN PLEASED with my curly cuts and my hair has ALWAYS remained hydrated and freeze-free from the hair products that Mimi uses when she does my hair. I'm sorry that you had a bad encounter but based on my personal experience, I have to think your case is an isolated incident and you should really talk with the salon and try again. I have seen how this salon focuses on customer service.

Stylist: Mimi

I had a HORRIBLE experience here. I brought 6 pictures of the same cut at various lengths to avoid confusion, and she STILL did the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of what I asked. She said if I styled my hair the way I normally style it and didn't like it, I could return within two weeks. However, the hack job was SO bad I didn't even bother, b/c I was afraid of what further damage she would do. Not to mention the styling products used made my hair a matted mess. I had to wash and restyle as soon as I get I got home. I even posted pics of the hack job on a well-known forum and people were shocked at how bad it was. I suppose I should have gone and asked for my money back, but I believe in sometimes just leaving well enough alone. I will never recommend or revisit and leave it at that.

I'd been shopping for a "curl friendly" salon for some time and was very happy to find Oasis Salon, which is right near my home. Catherine, my stylist, was very calm and patient and did a beautiful job of coloring and highlighting my hair and giving me great styling tips afterward. Best color I've ever had, plus she answered all of my questions about the Deva cut and styling method. I'm definitely going back to Oasis this summer for a haircut. Wafaya and the rest of the "O Team" are also very helpful and friendly and the salon has a very calming and low-key atmosphere. I'd recommend it for any curly girl.

I just had a great haircut from Mimi. She really does a great job! After haircuts from my old salons, I used to want to put a hat on my head when I was leaving. But, Mimi really made my hair look it's best. I'm recommending Oasis to all of my curly-headed friends!

Positive experience! I went to Oasis based on the reviews here, and got a fantastic DEVA curly-girl cut from Mimi for just 60$ (in DC and Boston where I've had other such cuts they were always over 80$). It was well worth it, my curls are bouncy, conditioned and not too wild, but not boring either, just perfect. My stylist also did a two color process in record time that turned out beautiful, and no one tried to push products on me (but I noticed they sell all the stuff I use!). I HIGHLY recommend Mimi and this salon in general!

Stylist: Wafaya

I had my hair cut by Wafaya and Catherine and was happy with them both. My neighbor has used both Wafaya and Mimi and has been impressed. I was not happy with my color and Wafaya worked with it and gave me a free color to get it right!!! AND SHE DID. I especially like the "green" philosophy of the salon, the customer service, the overall atmosphere. It's low key yet warm. Of course, the number one reason to go are the haircuts!!! My daughter is four and I decided to take a chance and took her to Oasis for her first hair appointment. We were both nervous. She did not know what to expect and I did not know what to expect from her!! To my amazement, she had a fabulous time. They had coloring books, cookies, candy and the cutest kiddie apron to put on her. They worked so well with her that I could focus on myself and did not worry one bit about my baby. If you have a young child and have been nervous about taking him or her, please give the O Team a try. Everyone worked with my daughter that day and I cannot express in words how wonderful they were. Thanks Oasis for another wonderful salon experience.

I recently relocated to Maryland and found Oasis on naturallycurly.com, based on the reviews. They were all true! Wafaya was a wonderful educator about managing my curls. The salon was clean and relaxing and easy to get to! I would recommend Oasis.

I found this salon while searching for a vendor that sold Curls products, which I LOVE. The day I went, I found out that they specialized in curly hair and made an appointment for the next day to trim my ends. This is the first salon that I have been to that I felt totally comfortable about how they handled my hair. Catherine was so helpful, knowledgeable, and did an excellent job. The salon itself has a mellow vibe that truly puts the customer at ease. Not only that, but they have an eclectic selection of jewelry that I also love. I simply cannot say enough good things about this salon and I am so happy that I found it.

AWESOME! I hated my curls when I was little. As I got older I started to appreciate them more. A friend recommended Oasis to me- and now I can say I have never been happier with my hair. So many stylists treat curly hair like straight hair- Wafaya and her amazing staff KNOW curly hair! They take the time to listen to their customers and to work with them and their extensive knowledge of curl to make magic! I have been twice- Wafaya gave me and awesome cut and color in October an just two days ago put beautiful red and purple highlights into my hair. Wafaya's highlights looked painted on- my hair has never caught the light like this! I am talking to everyone I know about Oasis- and getting so many compliments. If you have curly hair- of any type- give Oasis a try! They also carry awesome product for curly hair. I have only used Deva curl- which I can highly recommend. You will leave the salon with great hair and the knowledge to take care of your new color and your natural curls at home!

Today was my first curly cut ever, and I went because of the reviews on this site. It takes me less than 5 minutes from my house, when I thought I would have to travel all the way to DC for a proper cut! As soon as I opened the door it was a dream: Bob Marley and international music, free coffee/tea, a letter to welcome you to the salon, and spectacular service from Marleni (the sweet lady who shampooed my hair), Wafaya (who walked me through every step of what she was doing and hooked me UP!), to the two or three other clients who were there who raved about the place also. The cut/wash/set? Just $60! I got a bunch of the products Wafaya recommended and am confidently on my way to a gorgeously curly future.

Just because a hair stylist charges $100+ for a haircut DOES NOT mean they know how to cut curly hair.... trust me! Wafaya and the team at Oasis not only know how to cut curly hair, they know how to MANAGE IT! Oh, and they charge less than half the price!

I've been going to Oasis for about a year and a half. A friend introduced me to the salon and it was a match made in heaven. I have curly hair which is not always easy to style. Wafaya and the other stylists at Oasis (called The O Team) do a great job with my hair. They think outside of the box and are great problem solvers. I have some physical/health challenges and The O Team is caring and accommodating. The Team members always take the time to find out what a client really wants prior to a service (the salon also offers, massage, tanning, manicures and pedicures).I always feel welcome, and in safe hands when I'm there. The decor of the salon is beautiful, with vibrant color and jewel tones; the music played there is from all over the world. It's a good experience. Please check it out (Wintergreen Plaza rte 355/ Rock. Pike) if you are in the neighborhood. If you are not in the area its worth the trip. - Mitzi

I have been a client of Oasis for years and Wafaya has helped me through thick and thin. Actually it is mostly through thin as my fine, ultra curly hair has been thinning and her recommendations for styles, products and color have made a huge difference. I can manage my hair easily, have tried all sorts of color I would never have, and feel terrific about how I look. Wafaya was the first stylist who cut my hair dry to round out the curl and make the whole look even. It was a relief to learn that curly hair has different needs than other hair types and to get special attention for it. If you are looking for curly care, go to Oasis.
