I went to Essentials to get a curly cut and was pleasantly surprised! Upon my arrival, I wasn't so sure about the place because I waited about 25 minutes to be shampooed. I was nervous about my cut because cutting hair while its wet and curly can be a challenge, so I asked to see my stylist before the shampooing began. Renee (the owner/stylist) came over and reassured me that everything would be ok and she would look at my pictures of the style I wanted when I hit her chair. The young lady that shampooed my hair was the best! She scratched and massaged my scalp so good that I fell asleep, something that normally doesn't happen to me! After being shampooed and conditioned, she put a hot towel around my head to seal in moisture and that sealed the deal. I was knocked out! Once I sat in Renee's chair, she calmed my fears by looking at the pictures and reassuring me that she would get as close as possible to my desired style, and explained that all curl patterns were not the same but she would try to get as close as possible. The cut only took about ten minutes and after she ran some mousse in for volume. I was astonished at the result! My hair was full of curls and bouncy to be short. I was so happy that I made a follow up appointment to have my hair trimmed in about three weeks. All in all, this is a great salon for women that wear their hair natural and need a person that can cut wet, curly hair properly. Renee is great at this and I would recommend that anyone in the area seeking to find a natural hair care salon to check her out.
Renee has been my stylist for several years. She has styled my natural hair from when it was on my shoulders to my new, short, easy, freeing do! She has intoduced me to many products and I have referred several clients. The owner and staff have always been knowledgeable and professional and the salon is always neat and clean. I love Essentials Beauty Salon!
I moved to the DMV about five years ago and had a hard time finding a natural hair care salon. Then I found there was one right in the town I was living in. I have had the pleasure of having Renee as my stylist for the last five years and I have always received great service. I have never been crazy about the texture of my hair, but Renee makes it look good. Without a doubt I would recommend Renee and Essentials Beauty Spa.
I was really glad when I was able to get a last-minute appointment! I was very pleased with the staff and my stylist was very informative about the transitioning process, and I loved my hair. The environment was very pleasant, clean, and welcoming. I have only been to this salon once but I will definitely be coming back to continue the transitioning phase!
I absolutely love Essentials Beauty Spa’s professional and comfortable environment. Tamara is The.Best.Sylist.Ever. She patiently helped me through my transition to naturally wonderful.**smile** Anyone thinking about transitioning to natural or in search of a salon and stylists who care, Essential Beauty Spa is your place.
I Enjoy going here - The Price is Reasonable- The Stylist are Great ! Professional and Friendly - The Salon is NICE ( Decor and All) I Have enjoyed every visit - yes the distant is far but getting my hair styled at this salon is worth the trip :)
I visited this salon to purchase products. I was very pleased in how knowledgeable the staff is on so many products for curly hair... I left there with Design Essentials Natural line and I am very pleased... Salon is clean and quiet and the staff is very helpful!
I love my stylist @ Essentials Beauty Spa. I was referred to her and have since referred her to others and everyone I have referred has also loved their hair. She is good at what she does. Very professional and doesn't waste your time. What I love the most is that I am not in the salon all day long. That doesn't happen at Essentials. I have always loved my hair styles. I've gotten a coil out, I've gotten the flexi rods, I've gotten my hair flat-ironed and even though my hair is natural, when she's done it looks like I have a relaxer. I get so many compliments whenever I get my hair done. My son also gets his dreads done by Tamara as well. I highly recommend this salon.
I love this shop - Ms. Renee and other stylist who work here are positive , professional and friendly. Its so peaceful every time I go in there. I love it ! i love it ! Love it ! If you are a natural head like me - don't worry about a stylist forcing you to go straight or get a perm- This Salon has the time, products and all the unique styles that will fit you ! And you will look in the mirror and say " oooh" and then turn and look again" Its a fantastic salon - its worth the drive - I drive from South East Washington DC to 295 to get to this salon - I have heard of other salons that do natural hair but I am confident , comfortable and relaxed with having Ms. Renee or any of other stylist doing my hair. If you are in the DMV area - GO HERE - check out the website
Nice shop but unfortunately, I did not like my hair...I went in to get my natural hair finger styled and unfortunately, I had to go home and wash out the white residue from the Nairobi foam product. I guess I wasn't sure what a finger style would be. It is unfortunate because the shop is convenient to where I live. HOWEVER, I WOULD RECOMMEND NATURALS IN THE AREA TO GIVE THIS SHOP A TRY. This was just my experience.
