Found Jo Bruno online and is the best kept secret in New Haven. Had a hair cut with Lucy and had a blast. She's incredibly sweet and incredibly talented, as she described cutting hair as an "art form." I highly recommend her, and I'm sure that any of the stylists are fantastic. Relaxing atmosphere, and a GREAT first Deva Haircut.
Leah was very patient with me not knowing exactly what I wanted. She went through a bunch of options and offered her opinion on what would be most flattering. She gave me a bunch of tips on a wash/condition routine, styling, and maintenance. Great price as well, look forward to coming back, and to bringing my kids in for cuts!
Leah really took the time to talk through what I wanted/needed. I wasn't sure what kind of a cut I wanted, but she worked through the parameters and helped me figure out what would be most flattering and convenient. She also offered lots of tips on washing, styling, and maintenance without being at all pushy about products. I will definitely be back, and will bring my kids here too! Everyone in the salon was very friendly and welcoming.
Lucy is the best curly stylist out there!! She's the only person I trust enough to cut my hair. She listens to me when I tell her, "look I know my hair is damaged but I'm not ready to cut off a lot." and she listens!! You know how hard it is to find a stylist who listens to you? It's hard! She's a great colorist and she gives great styling advice. She's also one of my favorite people to talk to...I always look forward to my appointments. Every time I go to get my hair cut, she cuts it, washes and styles it, and goes over it again to make sure it all looks good. The only problem is I always walk out of the salon hating my hair cut. This probably sounds weird since I just said she's the only person I trust to cut my hair. But that's because my hair looks AWFUL right after it's washed and the styling products that they use can look a little weird in my hair. When I get home I rinse them out and doing my own thing and the cut comes to life looking great. So just a warning if you have hair like mine, be prepared to walk out of the salon looking awful but don't worry!! It will be awesome
I have 4b hair so I'm not used to going anywhere but African American hair salons but decided to try out Jo Bruno. A lot of salons are dingy, but at Jo Bruno the atmosphere was great! Very beautiful salon and nice staff. When Jane was running late they gave me a call instead of having me come and wait. When we got started she cut it before cleansing and conditioning. She finger detangled my hair for probably over 30 minutes and talked to me about techniques and hair health. After it dried she cut it again. When I saw how it turned out I was shocked. My fro had never been so defined and healthy-looking. Every time I saw myself in the mirror for the next few days I kept on feeling surprised. Since going natural I've only gone to salons to get my hair straightened and I've left completely transformed with straight hair. After Jo Bruno I was able to walk out with a bettered version of my own natural hair, which was satisfying in a different way. I also had some new knowledge. It was great! I wish I could have Jane do my hair every day
Lucy was AWESOME. I was nervous because I did not want to lose a lot of length and she did an amazing job. She really listened to what I wanted, how my hair typically acts, and answered every single question I had. She taught me how to care for my hair and didn't make me feel pressured to buy the Deva products (although I did anyway). She was down to earth, easy to talk to, and really educated me on my specific hair properties. I would definitely go back to her!
Jo Bruno Salon came recommended to me by my curly haired friend, Emily. In RI we don't have any specific Devacurl salons and I was thrilled to try it out. Jesse taught me all about my hair and gave me a fabulous cut. I have a whole new hair routine and get nothing but compliments.
After much deliberation I chose to go with this salon even though I have not had a good experience with any stylist claiming to know curly hair since going natural. I opted for the devacut with Jane. I am very happy. Everyone is super nice the stylists are very knowledgeable about curly hair and Jane is absolutely awesome!!! My hair looks great and feels great too. The whole exexperience was wonder full . I will definitely be going back.
I got 2 haircuts from 2 different stylist. The first stylist was wonderful but left. She introduced me to my curly hair- I had been blowing it out for 10 years. After she left, I thought I would splurge and go to Jo because I needed to be told what products to use, how to style it, heck, I even needed to know what kind of hair I have. I explained I was growing it out and didn't want to loose much length. Jo didn't ask any questions and didn't answer any of my 'so, I'm totally new to this, what kind of products do you recommend?' But the worst was when I saw my haircut. I bit my lip to not cry...I looked like I had come out of a bad perm pic for 1990. She cut off most of my hair. I had to field 'omg, you cut off all your hair...' Comments for 2 months. After 6 months of growing it out, people started coming to me and saying "your hair is SO much better'. Not the comment I want after spending so much money on the head of the salon. It's been a year and I'm terrified to get my haircut. The other stylists seem to be great- my wife goes here for her hair cuts. But Jo is terrible at customer service and worse at cutting hair.
I went to Jane after my sister has been recommending her to me for a year. I have wavy hair, and when I don't encourage the curl, I could pass for having pretty straight hair. Sometimes this discourages me from going to "curly salons" since I feel like an imposter. But Jane taught be how to encourage the waves and to fix my hair so I wouldn't have the dreaded "crunch" effect. She presented the products but was not pushy, and the entire salon atmosphere was lovely.
I have wavy hair that frizzes easily and is difficult to manage. I've been struggling with it since going cg a few months ago. I finally went to Jo Bruno Salon after hearing about it from a friend. Leah gave me a fantastic cut and some great tips for how to style my hair. For the first time since going cg, I'm having consistently good hair days!
Jane did an awesome job with my first trim after my big chop in December. She showed me which products to use and how to use them on my 4a hair to keep frizz at bay while keeping awesome curl definition, and most importantly, moisture. The salon decor is awesome and the staff is friendly. Kudos to Jo Bruno and Jane!
Today I went in for my first haircut at Jo Bruno. Everyone there was very friendly and Lucy did a great job. She asked great questions before cutting my hair to get a better understanding of its shape. You can tell that all the stylists there truly have a passion for curly hair. Lucy took the time to teach me about curl maintenance so I genuinely feel like I'll be able to recreate the style I got today. I can't wait to come back again.
I have wavy/curly hair and have always thought of it as a lost cause. I always got cheap haircuts and ended up apologizing to stylists when they didn't know what to do with my friz. Leah was not fazed at all. She gave me a lot of simple tips to control my hair, and my results at home have been great. It changed the way I think about my hair. Thanks!
Couldn't possibly be any happier! I've been to too many places that have no clue what to do with curls. Shapeless, cut improperly, the works. NOT THE CASE HERE!! I've never been happier with a cut and have never received more compliments. My hair is shaped and layered perfectly. I'm excited to return!
I loved everything abou my experience at Jo Bruno. I have gone to several salons and this is the best salon I have ever been to. Because of my curly hair hairdresser usually cut it wrong and I hate it and walk out unhappy, but I LOVED how my hair came out when Jane did it and can't wait to go back.
No. Never again. The WORST haircut of my entire life. It is devoid of layers; there is no shape. It poofs when in its natural, curly state. When straight, it hangs like a curtain, the bottoms blunt and heavy, the top lacking any movement whatsoever. It is not at all what I asked for. I had, as I was often told, "perfect" hair. Springy curls on the underneath, wild wavy ones on top. I'd finally reached a place where I was happy with the texture of my hair, that once stuck out amongst the pin-straight styles my peers sported. I'd figured out how to style it and I was in love with the ease and consistently curly turnout. The only drawback was that it came to my waist when straight. All of this I explained to this 'stylist' before indicating she take off 1.5-2 inches. She chopped off five. Five. She literally found the shortest layer from my previous haircut (with a different stylist at a now-closed salon, seven months prior) and cut every single hair to the exact same length. It is disgusting. People can't even offer sympathetic "Well you could try...". They want to know who did this to me so they can tell all their friends never to go there; most are amazed I didn't demand a full refund. I did not, by any stretch of the imagination, indicate that I wanted to chop off my long locks; I loved them. Save your hair and your peace of mind.
Just had my first cut with Jesse - she did a wonderful job explaining how a curly cut is done, and made sure to find out what I wanted. I got a fantastic cut, and have had so many compliments! I will definitely be back! I really like the products that they used, and both Jesse and Stephanie explained how the products worked, without any pressure to purchase.
I had a great experience at Jo Bruno! I just got my hair cut there by Jesse and loved it. I think I'll be going back soon to try out some highlights.
I had my first haircut with Jane two days ago and I loved the entire experience! I noticed a difference immediately, my curls were so beautiful, I couldn't believe they were MINE. My husband commented when I got home and he never does that. At age 40, I feel like I'm just learning how to properly care for my curls. The best part was That I've been able to get the same beautiful look at home thanks to Jane's lesson and fantastic tips to take home. I can't stop looking at my new head of hair and I love it. I would recommend Jo Bruno to any curly-head!!
This was my first haircut at Jo Bruno, and the best haircut I've had in a while! My hair is naturally wavy (swavy, I was told), but I sometimes blow dry it straight. The haircut Leah gave me works really well with both styles. It was also fun to learn about the best way to manage wavy/curly hair. I definitely recommend this salon and will return.
I've had tons of professional haircuts from all over the country, and Jane gave me the best cut and style I've ever had! While we live here, I won't go to any one else!! So glad I tried it!
Jane was my hairstylist and Leah assisted her and I can say I highly recommend both of them. The haircut is terrific and my curls never looked better! But even more important was the whole experience of why they cut your curls the way they do and what products to use and when/how to apply them. Leah went step by step with me to make sure I could get the same results at home. For all those curly girls very frustrated with their hair, go to this salon, you will not be sorry and you will learn to love your curls. I would highly recommend this salon and especially Jane for the wonderful haircut. Thank you ladies.
I went to Jane for the third time this week, and she did another fantastic job on my hair. I actually chopped off a foot of my hair to donate it, and Jane gave me the best short hair cut I've ever had! I am so pleased with her work.
I'm so glad I found this salon. At twenty, I still had yet to find a salon or stylist that knew what to do with my curly hair. Stylists in the past have always cut my hair wet, blown it out, and sent me out the door. Jesse took the time to examine my hair, listen to what I wanted, and was honest with me about what options would be realistic for my damaged curls. I ended up taking a great deal of length from my hair, going from mid-back length to barely touching my shoulders. Normally, this would be traumatic and terrible for me, but for the first time my curls look healthy, bouncy, and wonderful. I honestly didn't know my hair was capable of feeling as healthy as it does now. In addition to the amazing cut I got from Jesse, I also got a great color. I described to her the warm brunette tone I was looking for, and she really nailed it -- the color is exactly what I wanted. What really made this experience the best I've ever had though was that the salon staff shows you exactly how to care for your curls, and suggests the best products for your hair type (without pressure to make any purchases, though I did anyways). I tried styling my hair the way they showed me for the first time yesterday, applying products to my wet hair and diffusing immediately, and my hair has never looked better. Jo Bruno Hair will definitely be my regular salon from now on. I am more than pleased. My mom got her hair cut here as well (with Christy) and her hair looks better than it has in years! I would recommend this salon to anyone!
I had never had a curly cut before but was excited to try it. I can't believe the difference it makes to get the right cut for your hair! I love the shape of this cut. I just scrunch in gel and go, and my hair forms perfect spirals. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair since I went to see Jesse. Plus she did an awesome job on my color too. I will DEFINITELY be back!
This was my first time at this salon and getting a dry cut. I was nervous, but Jesse came highly recommended by a friend. What I loved: Jesse thoroughly and patiently explained everything to me, and really listened to what I wanted. I left with a great cut and color--very happy!
Jane did an awesome job. She was super friendly and the salon had a great vibe. Jane took her time with my hair and made it look great. It looked fantastic leaving the salon (finally!) and I've been able to easily make it look good myself. I highly recommend this salon!

I recently moved to New Haven from the Bay Area and was nervous I wouldn't be able to find a curly hair specialist in the area. Lo and behold, just a few weeks after arriving, a friend recommended Jo Bruno. Jo cut my hair in true Deva fashion last night, and I had a great experience. Jo did a beautiful job with my hair, and the entire team was warm, attentive, and enthusiastic. I'll certainly be passing the word along to fellow curly girls.
We took our two-and-a-half year old boy to Jane for his first haircut. I was anxious about it as I had long resisted his haircut because I didn't want to lose his curls. Jane did an awesome job with his hair -- she took off just enough but not too much -- and was also wonderful with him in terms of keeping him calm and distracted. Really fabulous!
Jane was great! Not only did she give me a great cut, but she also gave me some helpful tips for styling and for products (but I never felt like I was being pressured to buy anything, which was really nice). I'm definitely going back!
I went for a cut for my birthday because my hair was out of control. I choose Jane because of her online hair portfolio, where i could see she has cut a lot of different types of curly hair. She had energy and a great vibe! As she cut my hair she listened to everything I had to say and as he cut she explained everything she was doing and how I could take care of my hair and new techniques to style it. I loved my hair and i know I'm going back! Thanks Jane!!!!
I went in a few weeks ago to get a cut. It was a while since my last hair cut and I needed one badly. I heard about Jo online and I thought I'd give her a shot! She cut it good. I still have trouble styling my hair, and I was happy with the cut. Though I wasn't extremely happy about it. I do think that I would go back. They have a great vibe!
Jesse listened really well and gave me a lot of advice. She took her time and was able to correct the damage done by a non-curly specialist without compromising style or length. I was thrilled to find her and will be back...with friends and family!
I was on my way to Mohegan Sun for a few days and desperately needed a hair update. I was tired of stylists cutting my hair and blowing it dry leaving me to try to maintain a style my hair just didn't want to adhere to. I found Jo Bruno salon via a web search and thought Jesse would be the best fit. I was so lucky she was able to see me the same day! I loved the philosophy of the salon, loved their products and loved the way my hair turned out (wavy, not curly with a few cowlicks!). I will definitely go back. It's a worth a trip from the Bronx!
Jo was warm and professional, asked a few key questions about my hair, and explained what she was doing along the way. I was pleased with the way my cut turned out, although I'm not sure she (or I) realized how much shorter it would be -- a bit shorter than I'd wanted, but it's still getting used to the length and the new zigzag parting style two weeks later. I definitely will be back.
Thank you, Jane, for a wonderful haircut! Jane listened to my concerns, my hair horror stories and could totally relate, being a curly girl herself. Jane has many years experience with polynesian hair and other mixed curly girl hair types. She made a point to explain each step as she did my cut, the importance of cutting my hair dry and helped me understand the best way to keep my curls looking great. I had come in looking for a professional hair style that worked with my curls, rather than against it. Jane delivered! Thanks again, Jane. Jo Bruno Hair is the place to go if you're a curly girl!
Thank you, Jane, for a wonderful haircut! Jane listened to my concerns, my past hair horror stories and could relate, being a curly girl herself. Her training with polynesian and other mixed curly girl hair types made me certain she knew what to do. She listened to my need for a professional looking cut that worked with my curls, rather than against it. And she taught me how to care for my hair, the types of product to use and how to replicate the style I received in the salon. I'm so glad to have found Jo Bruno Hair here on www.naturallycurly.com. If you're a curly girl and need a salon that understands the needs of curly girls, Jo Bruno Hair is the place to go. Thank you!
Jo Bruno Hair is incredible. It was my first visit to a salon that specializes in curly hair and I am sold for the future. I don't think I'll ever go anywhere else! Jane was awesome. She made me feel totally comfortable and I trusted her completely. I was very impressed with my cut as well as my color (though she did say the color would make my hair a little bit lighter and I actually feel like it's darker than before. It still looks great). All in all it was so nice to be in good company with other curly girls. I'll definitely be a returning customer!
Finally a salon that really knows how to handle curly hair! My daughter has very curly hair and we have tried every product on the market (salon and drugstores) and tried countless salons and stylists and have never really had any luck until we made an appointment with Jo from Jo Bruno Hair. Hands down the best results EVER. After 17 1/2 years of searching - we have found what we've been looking for. Highly recommend this salon.
I've been going to curly hair specialists for years now. I just moved to New Haven and found Jo Bruno Hair. I got my first haircut with Jesse and it was, frankly, the best haircut I've ever had. I was so happy with it (and I'm not often happy with my haircuts after the fact). I've now been back for my second appointment and was equally happy with the second haircut. I'm amazed that I finally love my hair. I would highly recommend this salon!
I took a trek (across state lines) - and I am so happy I did! I have had Deva Cuts before, and find that they are hit or miss depending on the stylist. Jo has some magic scissors, let me tell you. The cut is wonderful, even weeks later. It frames my face perfectly. I only asked that she leave it long enough for me to pull it half back, and that she try to layer the flat spot on the back of my head to make it not quite so flat. She did exactly what I hoped for. After the wash and dry (that's the only part of the Deva Cut I actually find off-putting...the hot dryer and metal clips stress me out), I went back to Jo's chair and we agreed that the length could be taken up some more. That I appreciated - extra time spent on making sure it's exactly right. I left the salon with a bounce in my step and in my curls - and I received tons of compliments. My hair looks exactly how I think it is meant to look. It's just perfect. The salon has a relaxed and friendly vibe, everyone I interacted with had a smile and something nice to say. They also weren't pushy about the Deva products, explaining everything and allowing me to decide. The cut works great with the products and with the ones I had at home, which I appreciate! I would highly recommend Jo Bruno Salon. I'll be headed back there for sure.
Jo Bruno Hair Salon is a gem. Their great customer service met me at the door. Jane is amazing! Not only did she cut and style my hair well she made me feel as if I had known her for years! This was my first Deva Cut and I am sold. The Deva Care hair products are wonderful. I wish I had known about this salon when I first moved to New Haven two years ago! I'm definitely going back!
Absolutely amazing. I loved my hair before but she made me love my hair even more.
so excited i heard about jo-bruno salon. i left the other curley salon after 10 years. thought i was locked in with them. jo-bruno is 1/2 the price and the customer service is wonderful'

I recently had my first curly cut and low lights from Jo at Jo Bruno Salon in New Haven. There can be so much stress around getting a haircut if you have curly hair. However, after meeting Jo, with her warm embracing smile, I very quickly felt in the good hands of a curly hair specialist that is an artist as well. Jo is a thoughtful, curly yogi, working her magic in calm, creative, methodical, and subtle ways, to bring about the best environment for curls to form and shine. I wanted my curls trimmed and shaped without losing too much length, and I wanted low lights to add dimension to my natural gray, that I worked over a year to grow in. She listened and did just that. She did a beautiful job painting on the low lights that gave the finished haircut a lovely dimension that wasn’t there before. Additionally, I thought the receptionist, other stylists, and attendants were warm and friendly in an authentic way. All the products that were used on my hair were of high quality, great for curly hair, and pleasant smelling. It was an attractive, calm and caring environment. I felt very taken care of, and I’m going back to let Jo continue to work her art on my hair so I can look my best. I have an upcoming wedding this summer, and I know she will be this mother of the bride’s angel in the wings. I am very grateful for this.
This was my very first curly cut, and I was really happy with it, and with the whole experience. Amanda did a great job of explaining what she was doing and showing me techniques to style my own hair at home. I got a good sense of the different products available and how to use them, but didn't feel pressured to buy anything. The cut itself looked great - this is the first time I have been able to get this much volume without frizz - and it was such a relief to leave the salon and actually know how my hair would look the next day, instead of being convinced to just get it blow-dried. Best of all, I actually have a salon in walking distance of my house! I woulld definitely recommend Jo Bruno to anyone else in New Haven with curly or wavy hair.
I decided to change curly hair salons and tried this one recommended by a friend. I really was impressed by the friendliness of the entire staff and the outcome of my style cut. Will difently try again for a color at my next visit.
GREAT JOB! I went to go see Jane who specializes in coarse hair, and she was the best she catered me throughout the appointment gave me tips on washing,conditioning/detangling, and styling she just the best, the salon is great for all hair types for 1-4 definitely will be returning :-)
Jane did a great job cutting my hair. What was even better was that she spent a half hour showing me how to style my hair. Since then, it has cut 10 minutes out of my morning routine and my hair is so soft and shiny. I can't wait to go back to Jane!
What a wonderful experience, catered to throughout my appointment! They showed me exactly how to No-Poo my hair, add the conditioner and volumizing foam while my hair was still very wet! She also gave me a great shorter cut, love it! Thank you!!!! Melissa
Jo is so calm and easygoing. She snipped my hair quickly but super-carefully, and it was transformed! I tend to get that poofy "triangle head" effect with other cuts, but when I expressed concern about that, Jo explained what she was doing (and how her cu would counter-act that situation). At my last visit, Jo, also gave me subtle but extremely beautiful highlights. I'm a natural blond but don't love my winter hair--it comes in darker and looks a little "blah." I've never done highlights before because I like being natural, but a friend had recommended Jo's expertise to brighten me up a bit. She mixed the color herself, explained every step of what she was doing, and worked carefully but efficiently. In the two weeks since she did them, I've had several people ask me where I had my hair done. I love my new highlights and will come back to Jo to do them again. (This is saying a lot, by the way. I've moved to Virginia from CT but I will come back to Jo to have my hair done. No one understands curly heads as she does.) Everyone else in the salon is so friendly and lovely--I always have a great experience there.
Great curly cut and relaxed, friendly salon. I've been going down to NYC to Devachan and Ouidad for curly cuts for years, and was apprehensive about getting a good curly cut here in Connecticut- one that was artsy enough and not too conservative!! Jo listened and did not cut too short (a problem with other cuts I have had)!!! I'm very happy to find a curly cut salon so close by!
I got my hair cut dry yesterday at Jo Bruno by Jane. She made me feel welcome right away and patiently talked to me about my hair before beginning to cut it. I also decided that I wanted bangs so we talked about that and she was very careful with those. She explained that 80% of their clients are curly and their whole salon is sulfate and silicone-free! She styled my hair wet and upside down, and then clipped up my canopy before I sat under a dryer for awhile. Then, we trimmed up the bangs a bit more and after we talked and made sure I was happy with the cut, we were finished! I was very happy with the service and look forward to going back for my next cut!
I have naturally curly hair but have never been able to find the right products to keep my hair curly throughout the day without it getting crunchy after putting in so much product. So...I have to admit that I've been straightening my hair my whole life. Yes, I'm a poser. I've always gotten my hair cut straight and honestly, have never been happy with my cuts. I was recommended to go to Jo Bruno and not only does my hair look wonderful straight but I found the perfect products for my curly hair. Now, I have the ability to alternate between the two styles whenever I feel like it and I couldn't have been happier with the service as well as the cut. I've already recommended a few other friends and I will be going again as soon as I need another cut!
My daughter has very kinky curly (type 4a...it think) hair. I brought her to see Jane on her 3rd b'day this weekend and left completely satisified! Love the salon and love Jane!!
This is the best salon ever!!!!.. it was my birthday and i wanted my hair straight(because i hate my curls). However, Jo and Amanda talked me into leaving it curly, they showed me the proper way to care for my hair.. i must say by the end of my appointment i was in tears, since then i always wear my hair out, in fact i love my curly hair i never knew my hair could actually be healthy and beautiful! The techniques they showed me really did help, i love Jo and Amanda they are great and they really do know what they are doing i look forward to going back and i am happy to say i have finally found a salon who specializes in my hair :). JO BRUNO SALON IS AMAZING!!!! & the staff/service is great to makes you feel like you aren't just a client it actually feels like a close little family. Thank you guys for everything.
This salon is top notch! Having many bad experiences at salons in my past (hairdressers actually telling me they are scared to cut my hair!), I knew it was time to make a change and find someone who CAN and WANTS to cut curly hair. The entire salon makes you feel welcomed right away while still maintaining a high level of professionalism. The staff is friendly, informative and willing to help. Jo herself is incredibly talented and well-informed. I will definitely be going back!
I brought my 2yr old daughter for her first hair cut with Jane. Not only did she do a GREAT job cutting & styling her hair, she was incredibly kind and patient with both my daughter and myself as I asked a gazillion questions. She took her time meticulously attending to her hair, and walking me through each step. We absolutely will return and to the salon and Jane!
Jo cut my hair, and I am very happy. It has nice shape and since it tends to be fine, I appreciated the tips on getting it a bit fuller. I liked the dry hair cut because my bangs were not cut too short. The salon is adorable and the staff very friendly. I would definitely recommend!
I experienced my first dry cut with Jane at Jo Bruno salon. I was very happy with my regular stylist, but it was only when I had a haircut specifically designed for curly hair that I discovered my hair was not living up to its potential. I love my haircut! Jane was terrific! I plan and getting my hair cut at Jo Bruno from now on!
Use caution! Jo chopped my hair off when I said to leave it long. It will take months to grow back. Too bad, I had high hopes for this place. The curly haircuts are cookie cutter too, they all look the same. Don't think I will be back here.
I have 3b type curls. Tight S and more on the coarse side. I've always fought with my hair. Never could get a haircut that worked well enough that I could leave my hair down. After my visit with Jo I've worn it down almost everyday. The cut works. I love it! The bottom line is, if you have curly unmanageable hair you gotta go see Jo. :)
I had a very good experience on my first visit to this salon. It was also the first time I had my hair cut specifically for its waviness. The salon is busy but relaxing. The staff is very friendly. Jo gave me a cut I am really pleased with and was easy to work with. The staff taught me about caring for my hair without being pushy about purchasing anything, which I really appreciated.
Great cuts, great color. Understand she is no longer there - opening own salon? :( She understands curly hair, so hopefully she'll surface soon!
I went to this salon because of the reviews on naturallycurly.com. I was happy with my choice. All salon employees were friendly. My hair was cut dry, then washed and they used the deva curl products. Since it was my first time using the products, and having my hair cut at the salon, a thorough lesson was given in using all the products. Although I liked the cut, I think I was expecting more from my curls. This was why I waited to put up a review, but I have to say, when I used the product on my own, I really liked the way my curls came out. Using it on my own let me style it in my own way. Jo did a great job with my cut, and she was very kind. She did not push me to purchase any products. I did want to purchase products though, so I did ask, and she was very helpful in suggesting them. Overall it was a good experience.
I was nervous about going to a brand new place and new person with my curls but decided to take the plunge. I'm very glad I did. The experience was fantastic! Everyone was very friendly and accommodating and I loved that they not only 'understood' my curly hair, but that they taught me many things I didn't know which have helped me figure out new and better styling methods for my hair. Jo was wonderful and easy to talk to. She listened to me and was very professional and thorough. I'll be back.
I am so happy to write a fantastic review for this salon- and I've never reviewed anything online before. This is the first time I've had a hair cut where not only do I love it walking out the door of the salon, but I love it the next day when I have to style it myself. This is because she taught me how to do it myself and it was easy, not too many steps and best of all, quick. I love it, I am finally wearing it down again, and I am getting so many compliments! My curls are back!
I visited Jo Bruno Hair for the first time two days ago after reading good web reviews about the salon and after reading EVERYTHING on the very-informative Jo Bruno website. You MUST visit the website: www.jobrunohair.com. I made my appointment online, even though I really didn't know whether I needed a straight cut or curly cut? I asked for Jane based on the photos of her work on the website. As of now, Jane IS my new stylist :) I had brought photos of styles that I like so that she would have an idea of what might appeal to me -- I knew that my hair and face shape are not like ANY of those in the photos, so I wanted Jane's input as to which, if any, would be the most suitable for my face and hair type. She helped me select the cut I now have, and I couldn't be happier! She did NOT use thinning shears on my hair -- YES! I do not have curly hair, but I DO have thick wavy hair. Every prior stylist I have ever had has reached for the thinning shears immediately. In fact, Jane told me she would have, as well, except that I had asked her to let the back of my hair dry "curly". She does not thin out hair which will be dried curly. I'm no beauty, but now my hair is :) The cut I received is amazing -- the WAVES in the back of my hair are just stunning. Let me summarize by saying that this haircut is the most even-cut style I've EVER had, it's the easiest one to maintain (SURPRISE!), it may be the best-looking style I've ever had, and the price was ridiculously low. Jane is a fountain of information on how to handle curly/wavy hair. I was apprehensive about my ability to duplicate those amazing waves I saw in the back of my hair when I left the salon, but I DID IT yesterday!!! Jane's impeccable instructions made it possible for me to duplicate the look she had created (FAST...no more half-hour blow-dries!!!) -- even though I used my own hair products. She told me the products she was using on my hair, every step of the way, but she did not indicate that I HAD to use those products to achieve the look. However, when my current products run out, I intend to try the ones Jane used in the salon. The salon itself is clean and cheery. I was greeted with warmth even though I was new. I will DEFINITELY be returning to Jo Bruno Hair, despite the fact that New Haven is not around the corner from my home in Lyme :)
I took my four and a half year old daughter for a cut last night. Selam is Ethiopian with beautiful 3B curls. Her last cut was very lopsided, so I was a bit nervous about letting scissors near her head again. I was thrilled with the results. She only took off an inch or so, but it looks a good 4 inches shorter because all the curls just sprang back to life. Selam was treated like a little princess. Jane was great with her, and they were prepared with booster chairs and a stack of kid's books. I've already recommended the salon to others.
I have been trying to embrace my curls but never went for a curly-specific cut. I told Jane straight up that I would be straightening my hair on occasion and I appreciated her respect for my desire to do that. She was really helpful and encouraging in teaching me techniques and explaining more about the curly girl movement. I love when I understand why something is happening and she was perfect for me. I now feel much more confident and knowledgeable and would definitely go back.
I'll admit I was pretty nervous going to my first Jo Bruno salon appointment. I wasn't sure what to expect from a Deva-style cut, as I had only had my curls cut conventionally before, and I didn't know anyone first hand who had been to the salon. I was greeted with a warm welcome by Jane, who gave me a fabulous cut. When she first started, although she explained what she was doing very thoroughly, It took a few minutes for my nervousness to leave. She cut the curls dry, which I was skeptical of. But as soon as she was finished cutting and washed my hair, the new cut sat beautifully! It is without a doubt the best haircut I've ever received. In the past, after going to other salons, I have tried to avoid haircuts at all costs, because I was never happy with the results. Not here! I have never gotten so many compliments on a haircut as I did after leaving this salon. Jo Bruno salon and its stylists are so friendly and easy going. I would highly recommend Jane, not only for her overall pleasant demeanor and attitude but also for the tons of tips she gave me on dealing with my curly hair, from washing to drying to styling. I will definitely be back when it's time for another cut.
Lo and behold!...I've found a new haircut home for my slightly wild-woman hair!! It's the right length! My hair gets to be as chaotic or tame as it wants, and it looks good either way! Jane was sweet and funny and fast with those scissors! I could and will only ask next time to nix the styling product (my hair and I aren't used to such fancies) and to allow for natural-drying instead of sitting under one of those head-furnace things. I'm a Vermonter. What else can I say?
This was my second time getting a curly-cut instead of having my hair blow-dried and straightened before trimming. My first cut was horrible and was not done at Jo Bruno, but my experience at Jo Bruno was excellent. I love my haircut! My hair is so much more healthy and I'm starting to become a little less reluctant to wear it out instead of putting it up in a bun. I purchased the No-Poo and the conditioner from DevaCurl and it works great. I also purchased the "curly girl" handbook at the Jo Bruno salon and it's been a great eye-opener on how to take care of my curls, I look through the book almost everyday. Jane was really great too, she was warm and gave me a lot of insight about my hair and showered me with compliments about my long locks. I definitely will be returning to Jo Bruno when another trim is in need =)
My curly-hair journey had a happy homecoming with Jo at Jo Bruno Hair! I was living overseas (in a country without curlies!) for 3 years and my hair had grown into a pyramid. I moved back to the country and found myself a hair model on a very popular daytime TV show where I underwent a fabulous makeover - ahem. Well, they fried my hair with 2 rounds of color, straightened it and cut it crooked...Then I traveled back to Jo Bruno Hair for some Hair-apy, and thank God! Jo took one look at me and my lopsided 'do and said, Girl you need some layers! Why is everyone afraid to give me any layers?? Because they are afraid and they are not the expert like Jo Bruno is! After she cut my hair and air dried and expertly styled my hair, I once again feel like myself with nice bouncy curls that don't go flat on top and that don't require 6 products to look good. She cuts curls beautifully and what a pleasure to sit in her chair, she is a great person and a great stylist and I highly recommend Jo and Jo Bruno Hair! Go - Now - Before your hair frizzes or frazzles another minute!
Great experience for my daughter and her hair looks great! I have now scheduled a hair cut
I recently moved to Connecticut from New York where I went to the same stylist for 20 years. You can imagine how concerned I was to find someone who understood my curly hair. Jane put my fears to rest. She cut my hair dry...that was a first. And I'm loving the results! I'll be back! Estelle Berthiaume
I am new to the area; this salon was recommended to me by a friend, and I would highly recommend it to others, as well! The atmosphere is nice, and the stylists specialize in curly hair. They have great tips for keeping your hair healthy and bringing out your natural hair characteristics! Their products are great too!
I was very impressed with Jane at Jo Bruno Hair. She did a great job with my curls and showed me several techniques to make my curls more manageable! I was new to the area and hesitant to try a new hair stylist, but I was thrilled with the work that she did! I will definitely be returning.
This is a really great salon! I usually get scared to try out new salons because of my ethnic, big, curly hair- so I usually go to a Latino salon so they can just straighten it out!--- but this place REALLY changed the way how I think about my curly hair. Jane cut my hair curly and dry, then after a wash/condish she styled my hair exactly how you SHOULD style curly hair. I also got my hair colored, and I did not know exactly how I wanted my hair colored but she picked the perfect shade. She also gave me great tips on how to style and take care of my hair. I have nothing negative to say about my experience, this is a great salon and I absolutely LOVE my hair now and I will keep coming back to Jo Brunos. :)
I stumbled upon this salon on yelp.com and the reviews were amazing. The website is soo down to earth. I was already feeling comfortable without even calling. You get to meet all the stylist and their personalities background and so forth on line. I called and they booked me right in for the same day. I had been hesitant for years because I was afraid someone might screw up my hair. It was very long and I had died it blue black and wanted to cut it off. I wasn't aware of a curl specializing salon. OMG the best thing ever!!! So, I got my first curly cut about a month ago I waited a while to write a review to see how I would still feel about the cut and I must say I love it!!! I still get compliments everyday for it. I'm usually known for the long crazy curly hair now it's just like ohhhh my GGG I love it!!! Luvena was amazing she listened and asked questions went through the tutorial on how to care for my hair and so forth. She made me feel comfortable. We talked about our kids and life and just normal stuff. The staff was amazing. Coffee, tea, wine, water they were there. The atmosphere is great, relaxing, nice intimate. I purchased the curl conditioner that is btw amazing! The other good thing is that they didn't push to sell the products which is great and the reason why I bought it. Anyhow, love your curls, wear your curls, get expert cuts, styling tips, and an intimate friendly setting at Jo Bruno's. :)
From start to finish, Jo Bruno Hair is a class act and extremely professional. With the ease of scheduling an appointment online (you even get three preferences for times and days) everything about the process is a dream. And in my 20+ years of getting haircuts in the finest salons in NYC and Boston, this has been the best experience to date. Jesse is an amazing stylist, suggests the best cut to compliment your features and is a true pro with coloring. I have fine, straight dark brown hair with a little wave at the ends. Jesse cut and texturized it and added layers and I love it. We also worked together to select a color with a little more "za za zoo" in it, a dark brown with red and violet hues and I couldn't be happier. I'm going back in a few weeks for a body wave and I'm sure I'll be returning for future cuts and colors. A+++++ for Jo Bruno!!!
I have been trying my adult life to find someone that can cut and dye my frizzy, curly, grey resistant hair. This is the place! Jo was wonderful, she sculpted my hair dry to see how my curls (and frizz!) would fall. I was a little concerned at first because all I saw was a big puff head but boy oh boy, I should have never been worried. The cut turned out fantastic. Also, the coloring product has a double process to it and covered my hair with no problems. Other salons usually have to come back over my hair to ensure that the color will take. I am extremely happy and cant say enough about the salon.
I always had straight hair while growing up and had to get perms. I always hated waiting the 4 weeks for it to calm down enough to be able to style it! After having my son, 13 years ago, my hair has gotten curlier with each passing year and I kept trying to style it the way I always had been. Fast-forward to this year and my hair has really become unmanageable. I needed help in learning how to work with curly hair. I ran into a girl here at work with gorgeous, silky, wavy hair and asked her what her secret was. She said she learned how to work WITH her curl instead of against it by going to Jo Bruno Salon in New Haven. I had no idea that a hair cutting method and a few simple techniques for working with my hair after showering would make such a difference. No more frizzies! No more wild hair. My hair is gorgeous, silky and looks fantastic. I'm a believer and I can't believe how much curl my hair has on its own. Thank you Jo!
Luvena is my favorite stylist to date! She is a hair artist, she listens to my requests and, plus, she is a total doll! You can be sure that I will be coming back for Luvena's haircuts for as long as I can. You can trust this salon with your curly hair. It's definitely worth your time and money. Here's Jo Bruno's website: www.jobrunohair.com
I have been looking for years for someone who really understands curly hair. As a kid, I had to go to a barber, and as an adult, I finally just cut it off to about 1/4 inch so that I could always depend on what my hair would look like. A friend told me about the salon and I decided to give it a try. I can't begin so say how happy I am with my hair. I absolutely love it. And I got so many compliments on my hair that day that it was unreal. Thank you, Jesse. I am now really happy that I have my curls back and now they are GREAT curls!
I've just received this letter from my mother (I treated her to a curly cut with Jo during her visit last month): "Thank you for treating me to a 'curly-girl' haircut with the famous and amazing Jo Bruno! It was an enlightening experience and after all these years I feel like I finally have a better understanding of how to treat my curly hair. When Jo told me: 'think of your hair as a fiber--like wool--and treat it that way', WOW! what a shift! The fun thing is that I have less frizz and more curl! Many people (my sisters, friends and patients) have noticed."
I've been going to the Devachon Salon in New York City for the past year and it got to be too expensive and just too much of a production. I was so happy to find the Jo Bruno Hair Salon in New Haven. They've got a great website which provides bios of each stylist along with a photo gallery of lots of curly hair cuts. I also read a great review about the salon and Jesse on this very website. So I made an apointment online and decided to give it a shot. I couldn't be happier. Jesse (and my haircut) exceeded my expectations. And it's almost a third of the price. If you have curly hair..this salon is a must!
I found Jo Bruno Hair from reviews on this website. I have fine wavy hair, and had previously gotten a Deva haircut, but it was too expensive to go back every time. I had a really good experience with Jo. She's very friendly, and the entire salon is very non-intimidating, and a nice relaxing atmosphere. My cut was great - I'm growing it out, and she didn't take off much length at the back (in fact, it didn't really look any shorter than when I went in, which was great). She showed me that my hair was uneven, and shorter on one side, and then evened it out, and gave me a few more layers around my face. Just subtle changes, but they made a big difference. My hair falls more naturally now than it did after previous cuts. Jane washed and styled my hair (with all Deva products), and talked me through the entire procedure, which was great. All in all, I'm very happy and will definitely go back for my next haircut. Prices are extremely reasonable, as well.
Found Jo Bruno salon after doing a search for a local salon that specialized in curly hair. I am ECSTATIC to have found them - after years of bouncing from salon to salon searching for a stylist that makes sense of curly hair, there is an end to the journey! Jo cut my hair dry, then Jane styled it and explained exactly how I could do it at home. It could not have been a better experience, and Jane's instructions make it so easy to do every day.
Just had my second trip to Luvena and my daughter's first trip to Jane. Luvena is amazing!! She cuts my 3b curls so they fall exactly where I want them every time!! My daughter's straight hair was cut for the first time by Jane and she's thrilled!! Superb and extremely knowledgeable stylists!!
I have fine, curly hair and have never really been able to find a stylist that could cut my hair well. Jo did an amazing job and she taught me how to care for my hair myself, which means that my hair looks good *every day* now, instead of every-once-and-a-while. I'm going back this weekend for my next cut!
I have naturally curly hair but never before went to a salon specializing in my hair type. Honestly, this was a revolutionary experience for me. Jane was wonderful in fixing a rather awful past haircut, explaining what about it didn't work, and educating me in how I should be treating my hair to get it to the healthiest state possible. I've always been reluctant to embrace my curls in favor of straight hair, but am now looking forward to the newer, curly me! I'll keep going back for sure.
I was so excited to find this place after all these years. I've never been able to take advantage of my curls and for the last few weeks since my cut I've been thrilled with how low maintenance the cut is and how easy it is to maximize my curls. Jesse was so accommodating and patient and knowledgeable and a great teacher. I will definitely be back!
The experience there was great. I had been there before when my friend went to get her hair cut. So I was knowledgeable of their style of cut and styling methods. This was my first time there and was my stylist. It was refreshing to have a stylist ask me what I wanted verses telling me what they thought I needed. She took her time to ask me questions about how I maintained my hair and gave me suggestions on ways to apply product and style my hair. I went in for a trim and was happy with the result. I am planning on returning to have her give me another trim in August and maybe layers. All and all there ladies of Jo Bruno are great and are willing to help curlies embrace their curl! I recommend all curlies!!!
I had been a client at Devachan in NYC for three years, but six months after moving to Connecticut, I got tired of all the time and money I was spending to continue to go to Devachan. I am so happy that I found the Jo Bruno Salon where everyone has been trained in the Deva cut and color methods. Jesse did my color and did a fantastic job matching my current color and highlights. She had some great suggestions regarding how I can tweak my color to make it more flattering and deal with the gray. I'm excited to go back next month for a color touch up and a curly cut. Also, everyone at the salon was very nice, they have a laptop if you want to use the internet while your color is processing and it's just a nice environment. Very happy I found them!
A few days into going CG, I loved the curls but hated the lack of shape so I made an appointment at Jo Bruno after reading all the rave reviews. I sat down in the chair and Jo examined my hair for a few minutes then began cutting. One side of my hair has always been curlier and bigger than the other, Jo noticed this immediately and evened things out. I loved being able to see the transformation instead of waiting for my hair to be dry and styled. The haircut was super fast. They washed my hair with Deva products, put me under a dryer then Jo did his finishing touches. The whole process was very fast and I loved that no one was trying to sell me products.
I was crying when I first sat down in Jo's chair (yes, it was THAT bad!). And I was crying when it was all done, tears of joy! What a remarkable difference. I walked out of there feeling like a model. Jo, you are a miracle worker.
I went to the Jo Bruno salon for the first time last week and I absolutely loved it! Luvena was awesome and she gave me an amazing hair cut. Luvena also gave me wonderful tips on how to take care of and style my thick, curly and sometimes frizzy hair! She used the Mixed Chicks leave-in conditioner on my hair and I can't believe how good it makes my hair look! I cannot wait to go back for a second time!
I took my two daughters to Jo Bruno Hair this weekend after a friend gave them rave reviews. Well my friend was right, our stylist was wonderful. For the first time I was able to repeat the same beautiful style after washing. Luvena is friendly, knowledgeable and just a joy to be around. I was nervous about a dry cut on curly hair, but I no longer feel that way. The price was extremely reasonable. I have paid 2 to 3 times as much for one head in the past. We will keep coming back for years to come!!!!!!!
I am soo happy! I have unmanageable 3B hair. I should say had, because with Jo's cut, it looks wonderful. I live in New York City, but didn't want the attitude and cost of NYC salons. Jo Bruno Hair is wonderful. Jo listened, and cut my hair exactly as I wished. I was going from bra length to collarbone length, and was terrified, so I asked her to be very conservative in how much she cut. She did exactly what I asked. Then it was washed, dried. Jo checked it and, bless her, was willing to cut another inch or two off to get the look I wanted. The salon is relaxed, friendly, comfortable. They respect what you, the customer want. I am very happy with my cut, and with the entire experience. And yes, they have product, but there is absolutely no pressure to buy. Did I say I love this place?!?
I was a little concerned about getting a curly cut, because I do like to have the option to wear my hair straight occasionally, but Jesse convinced me that with my waves, the cut would work both ways. She cut it while curly/wavy and dry then cleansed and styled and put me under a dryer. I emerged with the most rocking waves, and a week later when I wanted to straighten them they looked fabulous like that too. I can wash it at the gym and go straight to class and my waves look perfectly styled because of the cut. I love, love, love my haircut. Jesse is just wonderful.
Jo Bruno’s Salon is wonderful. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. I went for my first appointment and was a little nervous because I’ve had not so good experiences with curly hair cuts. As soon as I sat in Jo’s chair, the nerves disappeared. I was treated with such kindness and I truly felt like everyone cared about how my hair turned out. Jo uses the DevaCurl method when cutting, which means she'll cut your hair dry, curl by curl. I was very impressed. My hair is very curly and thin. The cut gave my hair volume which is exactly what I was looking for. After my haircut, Jane spent time washing and styling my hair showing me step by step how to do it myself. The Jo Bruno Salon also sells the Devacare products for less than retail or online. I did purchase the products, but there was no pressure to do so. I'm totally sold. The prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be going back for Pintura highlights.
I got a great haircut. It was reasonably priced for New Haven. Jesse explained all the techniques and products she used. It was an excellent experience and I have already recommended Jo Bruno to all my curly hair friends! I can't wait to go back.
Jo's cut did A LOT for my wavy hair. Five gold stars!! I came here once before and got a mediocre cut from one of the other stylists. It was a nice cut for wavy hair, but I suspect would have looked nicer on really curly-curls. I decided to give the salon one more shot, this time requesting Jo as my stylist. Incredible!! I have wavy hair. Maybe a 2 curl, with ringlets of 3's mixed into it. Jo made my fine hair VA-VA-VOOM and I love it!! It was a nice cut when I left the salon, but after styling it on my own (I have yet to go to a salon where the stylists are aggressive enough to encourage a wave to be a curl...), it's AMAZING! AMAZING. AMAZING. The best it could be! I think the previous highlights from another salon, which I really didn't care for, look funky and stylish now. Is that possible?? The past few days since the cut I've been waking up with second day hair, which I never-ever had before. I'm so happy and grateful to live near such a great salon!!
I have been to Devachan in NYC twice and my $55 haircut by Jo at Jo Bruno Hair was as good if not better than my $125 haircut at Devachan. They do the same technique with the dry haircut and drier contraption. They also sell the Devachan products for a couple dollars less than they sell them at Devachan. Plus, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly at Jo Bruno Hair, as opposed to Devachan, where I felt like I was not cool enough to be a client. I will be going back to Jo Bruno soon!
Jo Bruno is AWESOME! They work around the clock to accommodate you, and once you're in the door they treat you like a real guest. My appointment was confirmed at 10:45pm, allowing me to get a quick cut the following day. Luvena uses the DevaCurl method when cutting, which means she'll cut your hair dry, curl by curl. I have a strong wave/soft curl and this was new for me. I'll admit, I was nervous at first but WOW, I'll never have it done another way. Afterward, she spent time washing and styling my hair so she could teach me the DevaCurl way. I'm totally sold. My hair has NEVER looked so good. The second I left the salon I called all my curly-haired relatives and friends and told them about this gem. And in case that still isn't enough to convince you, she offered me WINE while my hair dried and the entire visit cost me $40. I LOVE this salon!!
I went to the Devachan salon in NYC for my cut, but wanted something closer to home for maintenance and color. I was fortunate to come upon Jo Bruno Salon and Luveena. Her approach to "curly girls" is spot-on Devachan and the color (Pintura) as good as anything I could have gotten at the Devachan mother-ship. She listens to what you want and works with you to achieve it. Now, if they'd only open a branch closer to Hartford!
I've gone to this salon three times before; the first two times Jo cut my hair, and the most recent time Luvena cut it. I've been extremely happy with every cut I've gotten here. Both Jo and Luvena listened to the concerns I had with my hair and gave me fantastic cuts. I will continue to get my hair cut here. The atmosphere at the salon is also very pleasant and relaxing. The stylists offer you drinks and reading material while you're waiting (under the dryer for example) and I've never had them push any products on me. For anyone who is new to the CG routine, Jo does a fabulous job of walking you through the washing and styling steps.
When I was growing up in New Haven, there weren't any salons specializing in curly hair. Now that I am back, I am delighted and ecstatic that Jo Bruno Hair is here! All of the stylists are trained in the Devachan style (which I came to love in NYC). Luvena is wonderful! She listened to what I wanted and asked questions to make sure she understood. It's a cute shop, my haircut is amazing (have been getting compliments since I stepped onto the sidewalk) and the price is right too. I picked up a handful of Luvena's business cards because my curly friends deserve to know about this place. Awesome! Thank you!
I was a little nervous, having only been to one Deva-trained stylist for many cuts in the past. I loved that particular stylist, but recently moved and can't make the trek back to her. I didn't know if the magic was my stylist or the training. Luvena was great, my hair is perfect, couldn't be happier!
I have been following the Curly Girl method started by Lorraine Massey for years and I also went to NYC to the Devachan salon to get my hair cut. When I moved to CT it got harder and was very expensive. The reviews here took me to Jo Bruno Salon where Jesse gave me a ROCKIN' curly style with lots of bounce, body and curl. I love my hair more then ever now!! Thanks Jessie.
Love love love Jo Bruno and everyone there. But especially my stylist, Luvena. She is amazing, listened to everything I wanted and worked with me. The salon is beautiful and the staff are friendly and very accomodating. And I can honestly say I got the BEST haircut of my life at this salon. Thanks Luvena!
Jo Bruno Hair is the best salon in the Greater New Haven area! I used to go all the way to NYC for a haircut, which took time and money. Fortunately Jo Bruno Hair opened and has given me access to high quality products, style and personal service. I have long curly hair and before JBH - I would walk out of salons saying "oh, maybe it will be better when I style it" - I would leave salons looking like a big red poodle! At JBH, I walk out with gorgeous, shiny bouncy curls all behaving and looking fierce! Unlike the previous reviewer - I have never had an "uneven cut". I find it odd that that reviewer didn't just call the salon to go back and have them fix it. All top notch salons will do this for you. I know that it drives stylists crazy to think that someone is unhappy and didn't let them know. I love Jo Bruno Hair and I wouldn't go anywhere else! Great stylists, great products, great attitude = happy, gorgeous curls!
Jo Bruno is an absolute genius. I have been going to her for a couple years now after a reccommendation on this website. I spent my life walking out of salons in tears, or just in disgust and ran home to redo my hair. NEVER, EVER once have I had to leave Jo's salon and even touch my hair. I have very curly hair and originally had her cut it curly and dry. But one time I had her blow dry and flat iron it straight and it looks awesome too. My point is, she can cut it straight or curly and it still comes out great every time I do it myself. I dont know how she does it but I get compliments all the time and give the credit to Jo. Ive sent many a co-worker to her and they all love her. I have learned that curly hair takes work and the tips she gives are invaluable and work. I was doing everything wrong and wondering why my hair was fried and dead looking. Since Jo, my hair is in the best shape ever! Soft, shiny whther its straight or curly. The salon is very cool. Worth the inconvenience of having to park downtown New Haven. The other gals there are great too. Jesse has done some funky, cool cuts on the ladies that have been there at the same time and she is very knowledgable as well. Lavenia blew dry my hair once and did such an awesome job that she didnt even need to use the flat iron!!! that was amazing. Jeff at the front desk is very nice as well. its just an incredible place and I thank God that I found Jo. She is my hero and I take her advice to heart. Treat yourself to Jo Bruno Salon, you will never go anywhere again!!!
After many recommendations, I went to Jo Bruno Hair to see what they could do with my curly/frizzy hair. Luvena was my stylist. I walked in frustrated and out of ideas to tame my hair. I walked out with beautiful, versitile and EASY to manage hair! Which is something I have not had before! I highly recommend Luvena and Jo Bruno Hair!
I was really excited to be going to this salon based on the reviews on this website. I'd gone to check it out before getting a haircut and everyone is super nice and the salon is really cute and homey, so I booked an appointment. I was given some useful tips for styling my hair but the haircut was disappointing. It was nothing like what I'd requested and I now have to grow it out to achieve the desired results. I also like to straighten my hair occasionally and when I did after this haircut, it was visibly uneven and now I can't wear it straight at all. Maybe it was an off day, I don't know, but I do know I won't be going back. It's really a shame because I really liked Jo, but not the haircut.
Jesse was great. I was donating my long curly hair to make cancer wigs and ended up cutting off 12 inches! Jesse listened so well to what I wanted, I wasn't traumatized by the loss at all. In fact, this is the best haircut I've had all my life. She also told me exactly how to get the most out of my new style and my curls, going through a typical morning ritual with me step by step. I recommend her highly and 110%!
Truly a phenomenal experience. I have never been to anyone who know as much about curly hair. A great cut, professional, friendly and DEva hair products. AMAZING!!!
Jo is rockin. I used to think that I should only let people with curly hair cut my hair, but Jo has disabused me of that notion. She knows exactly what she's doing, and is kind and friendly to boot! I had never gotten my hair cut in New Haven before (always went home to my mean Ouidad stylist in Philly), and I am happy to say that the recs on this site steered me towards an awesome stylist. Thanks Jo! My hair is exactly what I wanted!
After living in New Haven for a year and making many failed attempts at finding someone who actually knows how to cut and care for curly hair, I was overjoyed to discover Jo Bruno. Her expertise and careful attention to detail exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend her!
I just got the best haircut of my life! I have coarse, curly hair and Jo knew exactly what to do with it. She cut it dry, and then gave me step by step instructions about how to care for my curls at home to keep them looking as good as they did when I left the salon. Just wonderful. Really listened to me, but also knew a lot - more than anyone I've seen - about how to cut and care for curly hair. Awesome.
Jo Bruno is AMAZING! My curly hair has never looked better. She cut my hair while it was dry so I could really see how the curls would fall, and she was careful not to cut off too much. She listened to me and cut my hair exactly as I wanted, and she genuinely cared about my happiness. She knew exactly what I was looking for. She uses Devachan products which are superb. Jo showed me precisely how to style and care for my hair so it is consistently shiney and healthy with beautiful curly ringlets. She also did a fantastic job on the color, and incorporated natural-looking highlights into my hair. I would definitely recommend contacting her!
for as long as i have been letting my hair go curly, i have been struggling to try to find a salon in which i felt comfortable. after my first cut from jo the other day, i dont think i will ever be going anywhere else. she is seriously amazing; she really understands and listens to what you want, she doesnt push products on you, she teaches you what to do every step of the way so your hair can look good on your own time, and above all else she is a total sweetheart. i love her.
