I recently moved to the DFW area and I was worried about not finding a Salon that specializes in curly hair . I have had disastrous experiences in the past so I was determined to find the right place. After doing my research online and going through reviews, I found Styling Hutch. I had Mimi as a stylist and she did an excellent job. She is a Ouidad certified Stylist and has many years of experience in cutting and coloring hair. It had been a long time since I had a haircut so my hair was in pretty bad shape. I love the way Mimi cut and styled my hair. I enjoyed my experience and the lessons I learned about how to take better care for my hair and how to style it as well. Thank you Mimi!
I normally don’t go on websites and write reviews, good or bad, but this time it’s a must. I have been a client for 4 or 5 years now at the Styling Hutch. Terry was my stylist and she is no longer there. I’m not sure where she is doing hair now. I’ve returned to the Styling Hutch twice since Terry has been gone, and had my hair cut by two different stylists. The first time was with Mimi. She cut my hair so bad I waited a long time before I tried to have it fixed. She left me with these uneven layers, if you want to call them layers. My hair was so chopped you could see cut hair, then three inches lower, another chop. Nothing blended or anything that looked like what I was used to. Definitely not a Ouidad cut. I was left with “puppy dog ears” on both sides of my head. These things stuck out. It was terrible. So I waited and waited. Finally my hair seemed to grow out. I decided to return to the Styling Hutch, but this time to have another stylist cut my hair. I scheduled with Melissa this time. When I went in I explained what was going on with my still “puppy dog ears”. She said she could fix this. Well, history repeated itself. BUT for some reason, Melissa left my hair worse than what Mimi did. My bangs were chopped so badly, when she cut them she simply grabbed whatever hair her fingers landed on and pulled that hair down and cut. She didn’t section it or make sure it was cut evenly so that it would style. They were supposed to hang so that I could part them from the left to the right at an angle. The right side was shorter and was left so that I could not style them. I went back in and asked her to fix them. She cut them this time straight across and it hides how bad they are. Thank goodness she had first chopped them to be long, as of now they are so short any type of humidity comes in and I can’t wear them down. My dog ears I guess I’ll have forever. When I tried to explain about the chopped ugly layers, she said she could cut them to blend more. So she cut them. Well, it still looks a mess, chopped with no style or rhyme or reason. Again, not a Ouidad cut. I look like I have a mullet due to my hair being so short in the front compared to the back. It’s been a few weeks and I just can’t cover or hide this ugly cut. I feel like I did back in middle school with funky curly hair in a really bad do. The only thing good I can say is thank God for hair clips, barrettes and bobby pins. Oh and especially hats for the weekend. I can’t wear a hat to work as I work for a doctor’s office not too far from the Styling Hutch. I will not return to the Styling Hutch. I just want to say thank you for making me hate my hair and wishing, as I did long ago, that I had straight hair. I hate looking at this mop everyday! Now it’s just waiting again for my hair to grow out.
I wouldn't recommend this stylist if you have 4a hair, ESPECIALLY if it's long. I called this salon ahead of time to let them know my hair type and ask if they had experience dealing with it. I was told yes, and booked with Mimi. The receptionist told me this stylist would be a good choice for my 4a/3c hair type. On the day of my appointment, I also went to the front desk so they could see my hair, and asked the same question, just so they would know what they were dealing with in terms of texture. I even asked the stylist if she had experience dealing with my texture of hair, and she told me yes. I really wanted a haircut, so I tried to stick it out. Then she had the nerve to say I was "just getting scared". Never again! It took me 4 hours to detangle her mess! And I had to cut out so many knots! Btw, I conditioned and detangled the night before to make the process smoother, so I know she's the one who did the damage. Sry, but I'm not gonna pay $150 for a Ouidad certified stylist to damage and break off all of my hair.
Family and I have been going to the Styling Hutch for 6 years now for our thick curly hair. I get the Quidad hair cut done by Claudia who is fabulous! We make the 4 hour drive just to get our haircut. I now take my niece with me because she has amazing curls and they are great with kids too! They really care about giving customers a good cut and my family always leaves very happy with the haircut- they truly know how to cut and manage curly hair. I would recommend to all- must try!
WOW!! I am amazed at how much I love my curly hair NOW!! Buns are now a thing of the past. Mimi did such a wonderful job of cutting, styling and explaining to me how to keep this look at home. Before Ouidad I used Tresemme Mousse...never again. I was excited that I found a salon in Texas that offered the Ouidad cut...thank you so much Styling Hutch.
Before the Styling Hutch, I could never wear my hair down. My curls, when I washed and combed my hair out in the shower, were beautiful, but as the day went on and as my curls started to dry, the frizzier and more poofy my hair would become. After I visited this amazing,AMAZING shop, a miracle was preformed and a new me was born. I love my hair and can flaunt my curls all over and all day! The customer service is like no other place I've ever been. I have had an amazing experience each time I've been.
The stylists at the Styling Hutch truly are curly hair specialists, the most trained and knowledgeable I've ever been to! Kris took the time to ask questions, listen, and examine my hair, and she helped me to "understand" my hair better. The Ouidad cut is different than other cuts and really helps my hair look healthier and be much easier to manage. It was great to finally find stylists who can make my curls look better than I can make them look myself! I highly recommend the Ouidad-certified stylists at the Styling Hutch!
All I can say is…THANKYOU! I was lucky enough to get a very sweet, very well educated in the ways of styling and cutting hair that is curly, awesome stylist. I’ve been trying for years to find someone that could actually cut my hair in a way that had my curls popping and looking alive: soft and bouncy. Mimi did a wonderful job of explaining what and how she was cutting my hair. Started off with a regular cut to get it how I wanted it…then she did something called a Ouidad cut, that is a style created by a woman who was tired of bad haircuts and created this cutting system that seems to work; I am thrilled with the results. Long story short…I can’t express how pleased I am that I found the info for The Styling Hutch on NaturallyCurly.com...this site and that salon ROCK!
For years I have searched for someone that knew how to cut my curls. My search has come to an end....The Styling Hutch in Plano, TX. Kris is absolutely incredible with my hair. She always has good recommendations but also listens to me about what I want. My hair has never looked so healthy and happy:) Ouidad products are my best friend in the Texas heat and humidity. I travel about an hour for the pleasure of a great haircut and would recommend it to anyone looking for wonderful salon with knowledgeable staff and great atmosphere. It is like one big, happy family!!
Claudia is a true curly hair expert! She knows exactly what to cut from your hair to make it curl and bounce beautifully. My last visit she colored my color-resistant gray roots. She knows the right color to use to match your hair perfectly. It looked so natural. Claudia has a vast knowledge of the right products to use for your particular curl type. It's a science in itself. Try Claudia and the Styling Hutch; it is definitely worth it. The salon is quite a distance for me, but I wouldn't imagine going anywhere else.
For the first time in my life, I didn't have to go home and restyle my hair. Dee spent lots of time instructing me on the best care for my hair. She did an excellent job on the cut and style. I would highly recommend her to anyone with naturally curly hair.
I've been to Karen twice and both times have been very satisfied with the way my hair turned out. I won' take my hair to any other salon. (I live 5 minutes away from another Ouidad certified salon but don't get the same feeling from that salon). The Styling Hutch really does specialize in curly hair.
I've been to this salon twice now and am very impressed with their knowledge of how to treat curls. I'm a 'no poo (don't use shampoo) girl and Karen totally respected that. She did ask if she could use shampoo that day, which I was fine with. I left with gorgeous, bouncy curls that I love!
I have been going to the Syling Hutch for several years. Terry does a wonderful job on my naturally curly hair. This is the first place where I can leave the salon and not worry about what I am going to look like. I actually love my curly hair now and always gets lots of compliments on it where ever I go! Thanks Styling Hutch and Terry!
I have been to TONS of salons over the years to stylists who claimed to know how to "handle" curly hair...and each place martyred it. When I moved to Dallas a couple of years ago I looked on this site to find a good salon-and I did!!! When I walked into the Styling Hutch everyone was so friendly, and in every chair was curly haired women. It was like coming home. My stylist Terry listened to what I wanted and made suggestions for me based on my curl type and face shape, and as a result my hair was amazing!! They use the Ouidad cut which really revitalized my curls, and the products are amazing. The shampoos and conditioners are so light feeling and have given my curls exactly what they needed.
I wouldn't take my hair anywhere else. Karen and everyone at the Styling Hutch know curls! I've had regular trims and Ouidad cuts both from the salon - and I've been happy every time I've been in there - Karen always makes sure the next time you come in that everything was great the last time. If you're not sure, drive by the salon - every chair is filled with a head of beautiful curls! I've sent several curlies to the salon and all my friends have been very satisfied too! Please go by, you will not be disappointed. Also, there is another certified salon 2 minutes from my house - but I walked in and didn't get the "we specialize in curls" feel - so I travel a bit further to go to The Styling Hutch.
she gives a great haircut, and really helped to get my hair back in shape again
she gives a really great haircut, and helped me get my hair back healthy after it being damaged from another salon.
After years of false promises from supposed "curly hair specialists," I finally came across this website. I actually stumbled upon it b/c I was looking for advice and tips on applying a chemical relaxer to our 11yr old daughter's hair. She hated her poofy hair and, to be honest, I hated wrestling with it every morning. I told her I would research chemical relaxers and see what I could come up with. It only took about 15min on this site to realize I was about to make a MAJOR mistake. Then I found info on The Styling Hutch. We had been to a few "specialists" and left their salons pi$$ed off b/c what they promised was not what they produced. So I researched The Styling Hutch and everything I found and read was positive. So I scheduled an appointment with Karen. On the day of her appointment, I was instructed to comb as many tangles out as possible and that the whole visit would be atleast an hour. When we walked in, I immediately felt relief. All the chairs were full and a majority were curly heads. Their products were obviously geared toward curly/dry hair and I didn't hear one blow dryer, the enemy of curly hair. Karen sat us down and asked why we came. I explained that our daughter needed a trim and to "de-poof." That I knew the basics of taking care of her hair - that getting product on as much hair as possible was key, shampooing more than once a week was a bad thing, etc - but could not figure out how to make the "poof" go away. Karen began telling me about the Ouidad cut. Now I will say.. I went in with ZERO intention of spending that much on a hair cut and I told her this up front. She, in no way, tried to sell me the Ouidad cut. She simply explained how it works and told me regardless of the choice I made - Ouidad or regular - that I would see improvement in my daughter's "poof." I chose the Ouidad cut. Mainly b/c I was so set on eliminating as much frizz & poof as possible but also b/c the way she explained it just made sense. And she flat out guaranteed that I would not be disappointed. After trimming and Ouidading (if that's even a term), she showed me how to correctly style my daughter's hair so she could leave it down w/o it poofing out. I have never seen my daughter SO excited about her hair (except this one time she had it straightened but it started to poof out with 30min and that excitement quickly dissipated). The Ouidad cut really did eliminate the poof. I was so impressed! I waited a week to write a review. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't a false excitement. I'm sure we're all too familiar with the next-day disappointment. That is not the case. I have successfully styled my daughter's hair just how Karen taught and had the same results as she did. Our daughter can now confidently wear her hair down w/o the aggrevation of it getting out of control. And to add to it, she didn't even push their styling products down our throat. I was already familiar with the product line Mixed Chicks, as I've used that in our daughter's hair in the past. It is an awesome product, but kinda pricey. She completely understood where I was coming from and suggested, when we had the cash, the products that she felt would work best in our daughter's hair. The Ouidad cut is not an every 6 week cut. It is as-needed, maybe twice a year. While it is a lot more than I've ever spent on a haircut, the amount of time & frustration it eliminates, not to mention the fact that our daughter is now PROUD of her curls and not ashamed, it is WELL worth the money. GO TO THE STYLING HUTCH!!
After YEARS of hating my curly hair (the frizz, the lack of shine, etc.) I am now loving it! Terry and the team at the Styling Hutch have brought my hair back to life. Now I'm loving my curls and I don't want to go straight anymore!
I have unruly curly hair and this was the first time I ever experienced the Ouidad haircut. I was hesitant at first, but Karen was very patient and talked me through every step and performed the haircut to perfection. My hair still has it's long length. It feels so much lighter and more vibrant (very bouncy). I'm a product junkie (you almost have to be with curly hair), but Karen was right on about how the haircut really makes the difference! Every strand fell into its rightful place! I'm so happy that there are people out there that can FINALLY do this, and Karen really worked her magic.
I have been going to Claudia at The Styling Hutch for more than 5 years now. I am so happy with my curls now that I get my hair cut there. Now, I always receive compliments on how my hair looks. The salon is clean, well-kept and all of the staff is very friendly. The confidence I have every time I walk out the door is worth every dollar spent. I highly recommend The Styling Hutch to anyone with curly hair living in the DFW metroplex.
Terry is terrific! I have been getting my hair cut at the Ouidad salon in NYC for many years and using Ouidad products, and when I moved to Texas I was happy there was a Ouidad-certified salon nearby. I live in Austin, and The Styling Hutch is worth the 3-hour drive for a great haircut. With curly hair, the cut really makes the difference in how it shapes, curls, and grows in. Terry has an easy confidence in what she's doing, and a great personality that makes it comfortable to sit in her chair while she works her magic. If you have curly hair and live within driving distance of The Styling Hutch, you must come and visit Terry!
KRIS IS THE BEST!! I have type 4A hair and have been natural for about 1.5 years, and was in dire need for a trim/shape/balance cut. Thank Goodness that I researched for a salon on this website - and found The Styling Hutch! I've NOT gone to a salon for a trim/shape up because many salons wanted to straighten my hair and then cut it. And many did not specialize in "curly" hair. I couldn't understand why they wanted to STRAIGHTEN my hair and then cut it - that's not how I am going to wear my hair. I'm a CURLY Gurl! I called and was able to get in on a Saturday afternoon to see Kris - she was AWESOME! Kris gave my hair a shampoo/condition with a shape/balance cut - my hair was not long enough for the signature Ouidad cut. From the start of my cut I could tell that Kris was on the mark with my cut - it was shaping up very nicely! I was so very happy with my end results!! She styled my hair with twists - so cute!! I would highly recommend all curly girls/guys with type 4A hair to stop in and see Kris. The next time that I'm in Texas, I will DEF stop by and let Kris shape/cut/balance my hair!
WOW! Kris really knew how to get the bulk out of the sides of my hair. I no longer have a triangle shaped do!!! And she gave me some great tips on how to style my hair so it wasn't so flat on top. I was pleased way beyond my expectations!
I have been to Karen a couple of times so far and she is amazing. She has made me love my curly hair again! I have very kinky, poofy, curly hair and she has helped me to understand my curls. She took her time explaining what Ouidad cuts entailed and how to style my hair. She was patient with my numerous questions and uncertainty. She made me feel comfortable and confident with my curls which I have not felt in years. I will definitely been a long term customer as no one has ever come close to giving me the quality cut she has. It is great to find a salon that specializes in curly cuts as for so many years before I found the styling hutch I would go in to other salons and ask if they had anyone who was comfortable with curly hair and more times than not, I would be told no. If you don't have curly hair you just don't understand what we go through and it is nice to go to a salon where our needs and problems are known and addressed. ThanksKaren and Styling Hutch!
I HEART The Styling Hutch and Jennifer so much! I booked my first appointment with Jennifer after I found the Styling Hutch in Groupon. I had such a WONDERFUl experience!I have had natural curly hair all of my life and this was the first time that I left a salon feeling AMAZING! Not only did I love the cut and Jennifer, she should me how to style my hair everyday at home. That alone is worth a million bucks!!! I would recommend The Styling Hutch and Jennifer to anyone.
Dee is awesome. She can make my mushroom head look like a million dollars without spending that amount. As a teen, I abused my hair in all ways that teens do (color, cut, pulling a perm through my hair to try and straighten it, etc)...but I learned to love my locks. But, finding a stylist who understood them was difficult...until I found Dee. When my old stylist passed away, I went without one for two years -- no cut, color, etc. - and it was horrible. Then, I met a string of people who should not be within 100 feet of curly hair. Finally, I found the Styling Hutch and Dee. Dee can (and has for me): 1. fix a bad cut 2. cover gray 3. highlight without making me look like a candy cane 4. condition without making my hair greasy 5. fix the mushroom cloud 6. show me how to do my hair at home that saves time! 7. cut long, curly hair and still keep the length 8. give the Ouidad cut and explain why it works 9. sell product to me that I need without stalking me to buy stuff I don't need 10. keep to her schedule...I am never waiting on her The list could be longer, but for the sake of space, I simply declare that Dee rocks! The Styling Hutch is also a great palce to go if you do not want pretension. They don't need to have disco lighting, trance music, or a wine bar...they cut good hair and you do not have a headache when you leave. Plus, the people that work there look...well, normal. I am a professional, and I do not want my hair cut by someone whose taste level I find questionable. I understand the freedom of hair, but it is nice to see people who understand a professional business climate. J Allen December 2010
I first had an appointment with Karen a few months ago and had the best experience at the Styling Hutch. I had been using a Deva salon in KC for several years, only getting a hair cut once or twice a year. I had let my hair grow to it's limit (it had been over a year since my last haircut) and I was not going to KC anytime soon. I went to this website and read the reviews about the Styling hutch and decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did. I knew going into the cut that the salon was an Ouidad certified salon, and that their "carving and slicing" Method was different than the Deva method, but I was open minded and ready for a change. I was tired of pony tails. Karen is absolutely amazing. It was by far the best haircut I’ve ever had. She taught me the Ouidad approach and how to style and use their products. I have gotten so many compliments on it. I definitely recommend the cut and Karen; she is awesome!
I first had an appointment with Terry a few months ago. I had chemically straightened my hair for many years and was ready to try to start wearing it curly, but had never had the right haircut or products to control my curls. Terry immediately understood all the issues that I told her I had with trying to wear my hair naturally curly. She listened to what I wanted, and suggested a cut that would be as low maintenance as possible. She taught me how to use the right styling products for my hair, especially in order to repair it from the years of straightening. The Styling Hutch truly knows curly hair!
Had my haircut int the Ouidad method last week and the results were fantastic. I really enjoyed the cut but did not care for the stiffness of the styling products. I had to practice using them when I got home and now am hooked forlife. I have tried keeping my hair straight all my life and finally, at the insistance of my husband, decided to let it go curly. If you have curly hair, run don;t walk to the nearest Ouidad salon you can find. I had to drive 5 hours to get my haircut and it was worth every minute! Karen was awesome, explaining every step and why it was necessary. Now I truely have wash and go hair. THANKS KAREN!!!!
The Styling Hutch is a gem in Plano. You will be in LA or NYC before you find even and equal place to get a curly cut or fantastic color. Seriously...these stylists KNOW curly hair. I have been a victim to many bad haircuts...to where you just throw your hair in a pony tail everyday...well, this cut makes all the difference. I have super thick hair so it takes a lot of the bulk out...but my friend that goes has very fine and thin hair and it adds volume and texture to hers...I don't know how it does it...but it works. Claudia is also amazing at color! I get compliments almost every day on my hair and it really is thanks to Claudia. I consider myself lucky to have found her. You won't believe it until you try it and once you do you will never leave. I have personally sent 3 people there and they ALL still go after about 5 years to get their hair done there. LOVE IT!
I really enjoyed my first visit to the Styling Hutch in Plano, Texas. Jennifer took time to explain the methods of styling and using the products. She was kind, professional and talented. I rarely try new things but I am so glad that I did this time.
My 13yo daughter's hair became very curly and frizzy at puberty. Suddenly we didn't know how or what to do with it. After researching online and asking curly friends, we found the Styling Hutch. Claudia took her time talking to my daughter about her hair and routine. After Claudia cut her hair, it looked amazing, and continued to look great many months thereafter. She took the time to teach her how to apply product and style it. My daughter is constantly complimented on her beautiful curly hair thanks to Claudia!
The Styling Hutch is my favorite hair salon. I struggled with curly hair my whole life. One day a few years ago I came across an article in a Plano magazine about the Styling Hutch. I made an appointment and was extremely impressed. Terry does a fantastic job of working with her customers. She has cut my hair many times, given me highlights, and even styled it for my wedding. My mom recently just started going to Terry as well. She knows exactly how to style curly hair to make it stress free and beautiful, which I love! Thanks Terry and the Styling Hutch!
I was so happy when I found the Styling Hutch. Terry was able to make recommendations for a cut that would fit both my hair type and my face shape and it looks great! Yes, the Ouidad treatment is expensive, but I go twice per year and it is totally worth it. I drive in all the way from Fort Worth and Terry is willing to stay late just to fit me in.
I encourage anyone who has naturally curly hair to give this salon a try. I wish I had tried it sooner. Claudia is my hairstylist and she understands how curly hair works. I love the cut and the explanation on how to style it with ease. I know I have a good cut because I can go longer between cuts if I choose too and it still looks good. The Quidad products they use are wonderful. Don't let the price of a Quidad cut deter you from a good cut. You don't have to have one each time you get a hair cut. It is nice to know there is a place we curly hair gals can go and feel good about it.
I moved to the Plano area last July. I had been going to a curly specialist in Austin TX for almost 4 years and decided I needed to find someone up here to cut my hair. I couldn't drive 4 hours every time I needed a haircut. A friend recommended someone who supposedly knew how to cut curly hair, but that was not the case. Almost all of my curl was gone when he finished. I found the reviews for Karen at The Styling Hutch and made my first appointment. Everyone at the salon was very friendly and I loved Karen! She knew exactly what I wanted and immediately went to work fixing my hair. She explained everything she was doing and why she was doing it. When I left, the curl was back and my hair looks great. I booked my next appointment before I left that day. I'm so glad I found The Styling Hutch and Karen!
My daughter Leela and I have been going to Claudia for about 4 years now. I never thought I would find anyone who could cut our hair until I saw her advertisement for "specializing in curly cuts". To my surprise she was awesome and knew exactly what I wanted, needed, and did a wonderful job! I have referred everyone I know with curly hair, and straight hair to her salon. People stop my daughter and I to ask about our hair all of the time, and I carry Claudia's business cards and pass them out as if they were my own. She is a "God send" to the Metroplex for us curly headed folk! I love her salon. Natalie and Leela, McKinney TX
I had my first appointment at The Styling Hutch last night. I made the appointment based on all of the great reviews here. The salon staff was very friendly and the ambience is very comfortable and welcoming. Kris was great! She was very personable and really took the time to ask me questions about my current routine, what I was wanting, etc. She made suggestions and explained why she was making them. She really took her time with me. Before she started cutting she fully explained what she would be doing and how she would be doing it. When she was using styling product she not only explained the proper way to use each one, but had me watch in the mirror and explained step-by-step so that I was able to (try, ha ha) to replicate it at home. She recommended products but was not pushy at all. She just told me what she suggested for me and let me decide on my own whether to purchase or not. My hair looks better than it ever has and feels great! I will most definitely be returning to Kris and The Styling Hutch again. They are top-notch as far as professionalism, customer service, and knowledge of what they're doing. A+++++++
I was told about this Salon by a customer of mine. I asked her where she gets her hair cut because her curls are fantastic. All of the stylists in this Salon have been personally trained by Ouidad and are awesome. I was lucky enough to choose Dee. She is so wonderful!!! I have been to her several times. I will continue to recommend her and this Salon to any curly haired person I can. And now that I have had my hair cut by a real expert (not one who thinks they can cut curly) I see other people out and about and want to pull them aside and tell them call The Styling Hutch you don't have o live with your hair looking like that any more.
After many bad haircuts, months of wearing baseball caps to hide my hair while it grew and haircuts that grew out looking like light-bulbs or even worse basketballs, I found Claudia! She works wonders with my hair, it always looks good not only when I leave the salon but for weeks afterward. She takes the time to really get to know what her client wants and needs and does a fabulous job. My hair comes out curly not frizzy and very easy to take care of! Girls with curly hair know how difficult it is to find someone who really knows curly hair. Well, look no further. We have found her!!
Curly girls, you MUST go to the Styling Hutch in Plano, Texas! These people know about curls. This was my first visit and I will definitely go back. Dee is a fantastic stylist. She is honest about what will work with your hair and what won't. She gave me so many fabulous bits of curly hair information, I wish I had recorded my appointment. My hair was extremely damaged from coloring. When I walked out, my hair looked so healthy with no frizz! It was one of the best cuts I have had in years. Dee at the Styling Hutch is great!
I have battled with my curly hair since I was a teen. Several years ago, I read about The Styling Hutch and Ouidad in a magazine and hoped it would help me control my curls. I've been going to Karen for a few years and she is just great. She works with my hair, teaches me styling tricks and is so friendly. I always look forward to my visits to The Styling Hutch and have ALWAYS left feeling relaxed and so happy with my hair!
I have had Claudia cut and color my hair a few times now and I always leave very happy! She is able to get more curl out of my wavy hair than I ever thought possible. I recommended her to my sister and she now sees Claudia and loves her too!
I have fought my curly hair all my life taking hours to pull it out straight with a dryer, or trying to style it curly only to end up with frizz. I had to plan activities around my hair because it would take so long to get ready! Not only do you get a great cut with Dee, but she teaches you how to style curly hair. Now I've learned that the less I touch and mess with my hair the better it looks. I haven't used a blow dryer in years and I get compliments on my curls all the time. I highly recommend this salon.
I am so glad that I found The Styling Hutch. This is a Ouidad certified salon which means you will always get a consistently great cut and styling. My stylist's name is Kris and she is fabulous. The salon is unpretentious, warm and welcoming. Elizabeth, Dallas Texas
After years of cutting my naturally curly hair super short, I decided to grow it out and try a different look. I went to the Styling Hutch and made an appointment with Terry. She was very helpful in recommending a style that complemented my face shape and busy schedule. During the styling process she provided tips on how I could achieve the look at home and what Quidad products were right for me. Terry is honest and will advise you if you have a question about a new style that looks great, but maybe not on you. I would check out the Styling Hutch if you are a curly head and need a well trained stylist.
As other writers I was somewhat skeptical of a "curly" haircut. For years I would pay top dollar for haircuts and inevitably come home crying, until I found the Ouidad cut at The Styling Hutch. Well after years of hating my hair, I can now say I love it. I get compliments daily on my hair. I'm sold. This haircut and salon have made all the difference. Claudia does a great job. She really listens to what I want and has great suggestions when I need help. This salon and the Ouidad cut are worth every dollar I spend there.
I went to The Styling Hutch for the first time less than a week ago. I was nervous, having been 'burned' by my long-standing stylist once I told him I was ready to stop straightening/over-processing and embrace my hair's natural curls. He flat out told me I was wrong; I didn't want that. After arguing with him, he relented and told me he would cut to enhance my curls. I wish I had known that he had NO idea what he was doing, because he certainly didn't. Hence, my hair has looked like stringy, frizzy crap for the past 6 months. So, I nervously went to see Dee after grilling the poor salon's receptionist about how they do what they do. I have never, ever had a more positive experience with a hair cut in my life than I did with Dee. She was so patient, knowledgeable and informative. She took me through all of the things that would help my hair in its current state, and explained how together we can enhance its future health. I didn't need a full Ouidad-ish cut, just in certain areas of my hair, and she told me that flat out. I must admit it was very refreshing to deal with a stylist who didn't automatically push the most expensive process just because it's the most expensive. She was also very frank with me about which products she felt were higher priority for my best look, and which were okay to skip for now, until my budget could allow for their purchase. VERY refreshing to not have everything thrown at me from a stylist's scare tactic of (usually ultimately false) 'necessity,' if that makes sense. When she finished with me, I was amazed. I teared up in the chair. I never thought my hair could look the way she made it turn out. It was beautiful. She had been so informative about how to style it out that I was also very convinced I could recreate it at home. I've styled it myself now 3 times, and I must admit I'm getting pretty good. It's not exactly how Dee did it, but my hair looks awesome. The compliments I'm receiving confirm that! This was by far the single most positive salon experience of my life. My husband is relieved; he honestly couldn't take me coming home from one in tears yet again!
My 13 yr. old daughter has thick, curly, unruly hair and we have been to many stylists who claim they are curly hair specialists. She has never been able to fully appreciate her curls (without using an iron), until Claudia cut her hair. Now she has beautiful, thick, shiny curls that last for 3 days without washing. I highly recommend this salon and the Ouidad products. It's pricey, but so is everything we've tried in the past that DIDN'T work, so at least we're getting our money's worth. It is a very laid back, friendly atmosphere, too.
I came to the Styling Hutch a little concerned, based on bad cuts in the past. I was worried, but about 10 minutes after walking in the door and seeing all of the other curlies in there, and talking to my stylist, I was convinced before she even cut! I was so impressed with the results of my Ouidad cut. I only wish I lived closer so I could go more often!!!
This was my first visit to The Styling Hutch. I was scheduled for the Ouidad cut, but after looking at my hair, Claudia recommended a different cut. She really listened to what I wanted, and gave suggestions as to what would work with my curls. I love my new haircut, and Claudia did a great job of showing me everything she did, so I can get the same results myself. I've found my new hair salon.
I got the Ouidad cut here. The Ouidad cut is best for people who have thick and unruly curls. My 3a curls do not fit this category, and so the haircut did little to improve the shape and bounc of my curls. I do recommend Ouidad cut to anyone who needs to have their curls tamed. Otherwise a regular cut will suffice.
I had the best experience with Karen and at the styling Hutch. First off, I have been using the Deva products for the past 4 years and have only had my hair-cut in NYC at the Deva salon. I had let my hair grow to it's limit (it had been over a year since my last haircut) and I was not going to fly to NYC for a haircut. I went to this website and read the reviews about the Styling hutch and thought, "well it's only 10 minutes away from my house..I might as well give it a try" and boy am I glad I did. I knew going into the cut that the salon was an Ouidad certified salon, and that their "carving and slicing" Method was different than the Deva method, but I was open minded and ready for a change, if I was happy with the results. I must say that KAREN IS AMAZING! I cut off 7 1/2 inches (my hair was super long) and I LOVE IT TO DEATH, it's by far the best haircut I've ever had, and I owe it all to Karen. My hair was long, thick, and ringlet type of curls, but Karen knew immediate how to give me the length- a little bit above my shoulders, I wanted (I brought in pictures) and without the huge pyramid/puffiness/bigness. I trusted her immediately and she taught me the Ouidad approach and how to style and use their products. My hair is fabulous, and I have already gotten so many compliments on it and my great new look. If you need a good curly hair hair cut, go to the Styling Hutch and ask for Karen. I guarantee you won't regret it, it's just as good if not better than NYC and right here in Plano!
I went to the Styling Hutch because they specialize in curly hair and I had not had a trim since January. I am very particular about who does my hair but Karen was wonderful!! I wasn’t sure if I needed a regular hair cut or the Ouidad cut. Karen took the time to ask me questions about what I liked and disliked about my hair. She explained the Ouidad cut to me and we decided that I did not need one since my hair isn’t growing in that dreaded pyramid shape. Karen showed me a different way to apply product which really brings out my curl definition. I highly recommend the Styling Hutch and Karen.
I can honestly say that I have NEVER received a good curly haircut until today. Claudia was wonderful. Everyone was friendly and casual. Claudia spent the first few minutes discussing my lifestyle and what I wanted from a haircut and how much effort I wanted to put into my hair daily. I am a wash and go kind of girl. I got the deep treatment and the Ouidad cut. Each step was explained to me. Claudia went over my hair texture (I have tighter curls around my face) and showed me both quick and long styling techniques. I really appreciate that she spent time discussing hair care and styling methods with me. Claudia loves a newbie and obviously enjoys her work. I highly recommend The Styling Hutch and Claudia in particular. Julie, RN
I had my first "carve and slice" cut yesterday and am so excited with the results. Karen took the time to consult with me before the cut and find out what I liked/disliked about my hair. She then went on to give a very detailed explanation of the Ouidad cut. I have very wavy hair but when I left that salon I had beautiful, shiny ringlets. I also purchased some Climate Control but am on the fence today. I am going to try it for a few more days before deciding yes or no. I definitely recommend the cut and Karen; she was a pleasure.
I went to The Styling Hutch because the specialize in curly hair and I had heard that they used Ouidad products which were supposed to be good (even though I had never used them). So I told the woman who answered the phone about my hair issues. She booked me with Karen. When I walked in everyone was amazing. Karen is a curly herself so I was happy about that. Was is problematic for me is that I have all types of textures of hair on head. Karen did a deep treatment and then "carve and slice" cut. She then applied some of Ouidad's anti humidity producs to my hair and it was set. I actually had some really nice ringlets with no frizz. I am African-American so I can say that this salon works on all types of hair. Karen is also great at styling your curls to fit your face which is not easy. I highly recommend her and this salon.
I was a little concerned when, wasting time, I "staked-out" the salon and spied one old man hanging out by the door, and then a second old man entering a few minutes later. Surely I was in the wrong place! When I finally went inside, though, there were curly ladies all around me! It was soooo refreshing--I felt like I was truly home. The establishment and the hairdressers that work there are so no-nonsense. There's nothing snobby or off-putting about the place. Terry, a sassy lady from Queens, was so helpful, and made me feel so great about my head of curls! She explained everything she was doing, and why. She cut my hair using the official Ouidad technique, and for styling showed me "shake and rake" (look up Ouidad for more info on this)--I never would have thought to use that much gel in my hair, but it worked! She showed me how to use long clips to lift my hair at the root, which, though I had read about it, I'd never been able to successfully accomplish in the past. The only thing I wasn't so sure about was when she diffused my hair (but I understand--she needed to show me the final step of applying a shine glaze to dry hair.) The diffusing--especially the few seconds of upside down action--broke up my curl pattern and left me a little more puffy haired than I would have liked. But I'm very, very pleased, and confident that I'll be in charge of my curls more than ever before. Oh, by the way, I also left with a few Ouidad products: Tress FX styling gel, Shine Glaze serum, and Styling Mist setting and holding spray. Terry reminded me before I left, "Remember to throw out your mousse!"
I have had 3 haircuts now by Valde, and every time they have been wonderful. The cut actually looks good without having a million chunky layers everywhere, it doesn't look funky when it starts to grow out, and it lasts for 3+ months without a touchup!!! Additionally, he was very easy to talk to and answered all my questions. He explained to me what he was doing, how to style it, what products to use and why. I would recommend Valde, and wish I had found him sooner!
Valdeh is very professional. He made some awsome red higlights the first time I went to the salon. The second time I went he gave me a more settle look. I still got my red flaming highlights but they are alot tiner then the first time. At all times he was very pleasant. He has a very sparkly personality.. All I can say is that i have found my best friend. Because he knows my hair and he always gives me great tipes on how to fix it. Fanny
Valdeh is the best! He truly understands curly hair! How to cut it: he is certified in a special curly cut technique, how to care for it: conditioning, how to style it: the right products for each type of hair, products made specifically for curls and technique you can do yourself. He provides personalized, custom service. You won't find a better stylist for your curls. Trust me - I've struggled with my curly hair for years, and I've been looking for him my whole life! He won't let you down.
I have had my hair cut once by Christo (he was wonderful!), but since that requires a trip to Austin or New York, it was a little hard to work into my schedule. My husband found The Styling Hutch for me, and I decided to give it a try. I have been on a relentless search to try to find a salon in the Fort Worth area that actually knows how to cut curly hair. Most stylists tell me they can cut curly hair, but when they see me they say, "Oh, you have REALLY curly hair!" I then leave the appointment in tears, or with a hat or scruchie. Karen was great! She was nice, did not freak about my hair, and I left the salon with a smile sans hat or scruchie! I will definitely make the 2 hour drive again.
I just had my first Ouidad haircut by Karen. She was very patient and informative before, during and after my cut. My hair lays and curls so much better than it did before. I highly recommend Karen for the care of curly hair, she does a great job!
I also traveled from ft worth and it was so worth the trip. I honestly didn't know that there was anyone out there that could understand my hair better then myself.I could tell after the first min that aren and I would get along fine>She also has curly hair and we spoke the same language yayI was so pleased if you want to make the trip to plano ask for Karen you will be glad you did.I for sure will be going back.
I regularly go to Claudia to cut and style my curly hair. Claudia's wonderful! Even though The Styling Hutch is no longer affiliated with Ouidad (no fault of Claudia's - Ouidad decided to franchise, starting in the NE US); Claudia gives me an excellent cut and style every time. It's a relief to finally, after 40 years, find someone who understands curly hair and takes the time to cut and style it properly. I, like others on this site, have always had to leave a salon with my hair wet for fear of looking like Rosanna Rosanna Dana (Saturday Night Live)! But not with Claudia - my hair always looks like Melina Kanakaredes from CSI:NY (except I'm blonde)! I highly recommend Claudia - just don't take my appt time!
I went to the Styling Hutch after reading the reviews on this site- I was desperate to get rid of some badly split ends and I've been burned by other stylists before, so rather than risk another bad haircut that would take forever to grow out, I drove from Dallas to Plano to see Valdeh. He was wonderful! Not only did I get a great cut and a bottle of Mixed Chicks shampoo, but a lesson on styling as well! He was so friendly and personable, not to mention gifted with curls- I've never felt confident in my previous stylists, but Valdeh took one look at my thick, tight curls and he knew exactly what to do. I recommend the Styling Hutch to anyone, whether your hair is wavy or curly.
I just recently was on a visit to Dallas and had heard about the Styling Hutch from a friend of mine. She also has curly hair and had recommended Karen.I have never liked my hair leaving a salon before this. But I was so thrilled with how Karen did it that I started to cry. I was taught how to keep up my beautiful curls.I have never had so much knowledge at an appointment.I can only tell you if you are ever in the Dallas area and have curly hair please go and visit Karen. A very pleased customer
I had an appt. on 4/15/06 for a Ouidad Carve and Slice cut. Claudia was very friendly and started out by asking me what my expectations were. She was very knowledgable about curly hair and my cut exceeded my expectations. This is the first time I've had my curly hair styled to my satisfaction - I usually end up leaving with sopping wet hair that I style at home myself. I would highly recommend both Claudia and the Ouidad products. She is great and she saved me from a very expensive trip to NYC for a great cut.
I took my daughter to "observe" a Ouidad cut but the client failed to show up. Since we were there, the stylists all took the time to visit with us and Dee ended up giving my daughter a trim, deep treatment, and style. She spent lots of time with us and step-by-step instructions for getting the "best" ringlet curls. My daughter is biracial and has difficult hair because the back is loose curl but closer to front and sides is much curlier. Dee never made her feel uncomfortable about her hair and was really nice and supportive in explaining how we could get her hair back into great condition. We had planned a trip to NY to a high priced "curly" specialist but are so happy to have found the Hair Hutch
